Cease and Desist questions

I received a cease and desist for defamatory statements made online. It was addressed to a bunch of people and was a very aggressive and threatening letter. The issue is there are no specifics, though it mentions “hundreds of pieces of evidence”. I have no idea what statements or evidence this letter is referring to. I have not made any public postings online about these people. I’m not their biggest fans and they know that but I honestly have no idea what this is regarding.

I also don’t know half the people listed on the notice so I don’t know what it’s about. It is also accusing us all collectively of successfully managing to get other companies to stop working with them, but again, no specifics of my involvement and I have zero clue what it’s referring to. I haven’t spoken to or interacted with these people in over 2 years.

Should I get a lawyer? Do I ignore it? Do I respond and ask what evidence they have specifically against me? I don’t know what to do and I am very confused

What is the best Canadian tv show?

Schitts Creek is one of my all time favourite shows. I liked Kim’s Convenience too. I’ve never seen Corner Gas but my dad loves it, and my husband loves Letterkenney though it overstimulates me lol.

What are some of your favourite Canadian shows?

Why does Reddit hide certain comments even when there are upvotes? And why can I not even see the total of votes sometimes?

I’ve noticed sometimes when reading a thread certain comments are folded/hidden, I know if it has a lot of downvotes that’ll happen but I’ve noticed even some with +4 will get hidden despite the comment actually being relevant/helpful. I’m mostly asking so I know how to avoid that happening to my own comments!

I’ve also noticed sometimes even if I up or downvote a comment I can’t see a number. Do some subs turn that featur

I hate hosting

I really dislike having people over. It means I’m self conscious about how messy my house is no matter how much I clean. I rarely have snacks or alcohol and I’ve been told it’s rude to not offer that stuff so I need to make sure I stock up. I also am self conscious about my bathroom. I feel a constant need to entertain when I just want to chill. Is the couch comfy? Is the temperature comfortable? Are they having fun? And some people stay soooo long. I try and set a time beforehand (do you want to come over today from 1-4?) but some people start hinting that they don’t have dinner plans or they’ve got nothing to do etc.

Is anyone else like this? Am I bad person?

How does Karma numbers work? How are they counted?

I thought it was upvotes but one of my posts has 4K upvotes alone yet my Karma is only 3.8K on my profile. Is it more than just upvotes?

AITA for using my own deck even though it annoys my neighbour?

I live in sort of a weird apartment complex, and my deck sits kiddy corner to my neighbours. We are separated by 2 fences. She is a private lady, and is grumpy. Complains about everything. But I’m always friendly and say hello and I’ve never had a personal issue with her.

I love my deck. It’s in the sun with partial shade from a tree. I spend all my time out here when I can. If I come out and she is out on hers, she’ll immediately get up and go inside. She won’t come back out unless I go in.

All I do out here is read, do a crossword, and sit. No music, no talking, no videos, nothing. Maybe I’ll have a convo with my husband if he comes outside. I also don’t smoke or drink.

Today I was outside from 10am-4pm. Throughout that time she poked her head out multiple times. Each time I smiled and waved or said hi and she just went back in without acknowledging me.

I’m thinking just my presence annoys her and sometimes I feel bad but then I remind myself this is my own space. She has her own space and I’m not actually stopping her from using it, she’s choosing to go in anytime I come out.

AITA for just using it even though it clearly annoys her (for no apparent reason) ?

Why do humans feel guilt?

Honestly. If I am doing something for myself at the expense of someone else, why do I feel guilty? Does my cat feel guilty when she eats all of my other cats food? Does my dog feel guilty if she poops on the white carpet? Why do humans feel so deeply about how other humans feel?

Any tips for completing crosswords that old? I’m excited for this challenge as I need something productive to fill my spare time!

[Books] kinda - Will the show spoil the books?

(Sorry I can’t figure out what flair to use)

I have about 100 pages left of Shift then I’ll immediately move on to Dust. My husband has been watching the show (he’s never read the books) and loves it. I’m getting antsy and want to start watching but he said based on what I’ve told him about the books the timelines seem a bit messed up.

If I watch season 1 & 2 of Silo will it spoil Dust? I’ll probably have it done by next week but I’m alone all weekend and want to binge watch something lol

How is it living in Bora Bora?

I only hear about it as a vacation destination I’ve never heard about people actually living there. I’d love to hear any experiences or any insight on what it’s like there.

What is the target demographic for Reddit?

I’m new here and some posts seem like they’re written by a 14 year old, and others are written by people in their 60s+ talking about the life they’ve lived. It’s such a diverse site it’s really interesting and I feel like I could hear almost any point of view on any topic.

I’m curious who the target demographic is? Like who is Reddit meant for? I personally feel like I don’t fit in on any sub but maybe I haven’t dived deep enough yet

I had a stroke at 34, am now chronically ill and disabled, but still work full time on top of being a mom. AMA

6 months ago my life changed drastically but I refuse to let my illness and disability define me. There is a stigma around chronically ill people as I find many times they want it to define them and they want it to be an excuse. In my case yes I have limitations and yes I require accommodations, but I am also trying daily to learn my own limits while challenging my body and mind so I don’t allow this to define my life.

Please help - Drs can’t figure out what’s wrong with me

34F with no significant medical history until very recently. Since March I’ve had significant muscle weakness in my right leg. Cannot bear weight and I do physio twice weekly with not much progress as I’m too fatigued to exert myself

- rapid weight loss
- nerve and muscle weakness in my face I cannot close my eyes and I have 50% exposure while sleeping
- blood pressure sits around 80/50 making my HR sit at 100bpm (resting)
- severe orthostatic hypotension (pots maybe??)

Spine and head MRI are normal. Blood shows low potassium and magnesium but everything else normal including thyroid. ECG shows sinus tachycardia. EMG and nerve function all normal.

My tests are coming back normal yet I am feeling so sick and I can’t function in my day to day. But because everything is “fine” there’s nothing anyone can do.

Were women in Victorian times hairy?

I always notice in period movies the women are hairless. I would think IRL there wasn’t a lot of hair removal am I correct? Women would’ve had hairy armpits, legs, and everything else.

And the women with PCOS or other hormone imbalances would’ve had facial hair that they couldn’t remove. Is it safe to assume women were really hairy back then?

I don’t like being told to take my meds or talk to a therapist

I am bipolar and sometimes I get lonely. I take my meds daily (I don’t think it’s enough but I do regularly follow up’s with my Dr so work in progress) and weekly DBT therapy sessions.

Sometimes I just want a friend. Hearing “have you been taking your meds?” Or “when’s your next therapy session”, while I understand the intention, makes me so irrationally angry. I want other supports. I want friends I want a listening ear I just want a person.

Is anybody else like this? What do you do to counteract that feeling?

Why do we have different tastes preferences?

I know nature vs. Nature but I’m talking about things like, why does the taste of ground beef make me gag but my daughter loves it? Why does the colour purple make me feel warm and fuzzy but make my youngest daughter angry because she prefers pink? Why can I handle a lot of spice but my sister can’t handle pepper?

I’m just really curious about the genetic and nature part of it all.

Wordle - Non-English words thoughts

Okay so most everyone knows the word >!Aloha!< but it isn’t an English word. It got me thinking - do non-English speakers play these games and if so, what are the limits on the words? Eg. At what point would a non-English word be considered well-known enough to use in a Wordle? In the crossword and connections you can use process of elimination to pass even with non-English words but with Wordle it’d be easy to get stuck.

Anyways just a thought! I love learning new words and actually learned a couple Spanish words when playing connections. Definitely not a complaint but it got me thinking

A good ER experience

I wanted to share my experience at the WRHN Midtown ER as I see so many complaints about long wait times and poor care. I promise in a true emergency (the purpose) it’s what you need.

9:23am an ambulance was called as I fainted. Vitals taken, BP was 70/40 and HR was 160bpm

Arrived at the hospital around 10:00am, I was semi-coherent do they did my registration while I laid in the stretcher right at the entrance to the ambulance bay. Maybe I got lucky but I got put in a room immediately.

Less than 10 mins later I was getting an ECG and an IV and getting my blood drawn. An hour later when the saline was empty they put up another one, and my blood results were back so they put up a couple other things I was deficient in like magnesium. I was also having tremors and my face was drooping and they put me in for a Cat Scan almost as soon as they saw that (turns out it was a side effect of the low magnesium as well as becoming pre-syncope)

I’m happy I didn’t need admitting as last time I got admitted that is when the waiting was. (Back in March I was admitted after 2 hours, but waited 24 hours for a bed upstairs)

I left the hospital after being there for 4 hours with a prescription and a potassium drink. And the only reason I was there that long was because I had to wait for the IVs.

So while I don’t recommend that feeling to anybody, if you are having a true medical emergency you will be seen as close to immediately as possible.

This has been the case for me twice, and once for my daughter when the pharmacist messed up her dosage and she accidentally OD’d on her life saving medication. That was an immediate admission.

Why does community theatre feel so exclusive?

I’m always nervous to audition for shows unless it’s a show I truly love. I didn’t even get ensemble from my most recent audition. My only theatre experience has been leads or supporting roles.

I am by NO MEANS saying I deserve a lead and ensemble is a lot of fun I really enjoy it. But the most well known theatre group always casts the same people in every show. I’ve actually stopped going to see their shows because it’s getting tiring seeing the same 10 people, especially when I hear some don’t even audition they just get asked to join as they need more people yet turning away talented members.

There are some smaller companies that many have turned to and I try not to take it personally because that’s showbiz but I’m just wondering how typical that is of community theatre? Like why even hold auditions if you are just going to cast your friends?
