Ace Combat 5 - All Cutscenes no watermark/logo

Uploaded a video with all of the Ace Combat 5 cutscenes here.

Unlike some of the other uplaods on Youtube this is not stretched. With AC8 release coming up I assume a number of you are nostalgic and would like to rewatch the story if you don't have time to replay the whole game.

Will follow up with AC0 later.

Small screw extractor for Switch (roughly 2mm screw head)

Looking for a small screw extractor. For a Switch which has a tiny 2mm or so wide screw head that is stripped. Found a video on Youtube that recommended this set:

Moody Tools 58-0670

Seems a bit different in that it clamps on the edge of the screw head and you can twirl it out rather than the typical drill down/reverse pull out types. But figured this would be easier for such a tiny screw head and has a lesser chance of damaging the joy con rail.

Only problem is that it is $50+. Are there any other decent brands from Amazon/Walmart/BestBuy/Home Depot/Lowe's that can be had for less? Could not find any in the search at those stores but the search engine on most sites these days are utter garbage so hopefully someone knows of something similar that is a bit cheaper.

Where to guy JIS 00 screw driver for a Switch?

Edit: Don't buy from ifixit. Their screw bits are out of spec and will strip your screw. Fuck them!

Cheapest place to get Top Gun Maverick aircraft set for PC

Bit disappointed it is still $10 on sale. Been looking at the common sites like Green Man, Loaded, Fanatical and it seems like it has been de-listed, out of stock or higher in price than Steam itself. Is there any place that is a bit cheaper?

Zero Caliber on Quest vs Steam - does it have more missions?

Got Zero Caliber on Quest and played it last year. Decided to get Zero Caliber on Steam for the higher frame rates and better graphics as I wanted to replay it.

Does the Quest version of the game have more missions? There are some maps, like some close quarters maps in suburban settings, that I didn't seem to come across on the Steam version. Particularly a sequence where the enemies roll a burning barrel down a narrow path at the player.

Certainly the Steam version is better due to graphics and frame rate but it does seem like there are less missions.

Replacing 402030 150maH battery

Looking to replace a battery. I have one of these devices:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SwitchHaxing/comments/9brx25/nsatmosphere_tear_down/

And it seems to have a "BLY 402030 150maH" battery. Watched a youtube tutorial but it looks like it may require some soldering to remove and attach a new one.

Example at 4:20 in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_XYePvifiQ

Wondering if that is necessary, does this type of battery require soldering to remove and soldering to add a new one? If so what kind of soldering tool would get the job done for something this small?

I really hope AC8 is on a newer build of UE5

Probably one of the biggest things I worry about AC8 is it is using UE5. AC7 uses an older build of UE4 and runs absolutely flawless, smooth with no stuttering. Later builds of UE4 started introducing micro stuttering that most developers cannot seem to fix. This carried over into UE5.

It seems like the latest builds of UE5 have been focusing on performance and helping shader related stuttering. Though I am worried they are using an older build and we'll be stuck with stuttering. Ace Combat games have always run smooth and the stuttering would be so much more noticeable in a fast moving flight game.

Hopefully they migrated to a newer build and worked in some optimizations because it would be disappointing if AC8 had typical stuttering issues.

Will they ever fix the cartoon like motion blur when shooting or being shot at?

Every time I load this game up I am immediately reminded of so many small issues that could be fixed within a few days. One of which is that annoying, cartoon like motion blur/tunnel vision that happens when you're shooting or being shot at. It essentially covers half the screen, makes it impossible to see, and seemingly does not affect suspects. They can kick a door open, turn, and sprint faster than a human being can in the real world, while shooting back at you. Meanwhile the player has some odd motion blur that looks like a cartoon swirl on the screen mixed with Photoshop's sharpen filter. What is that even supposed to represent? Being shot at in real life does not make your character experience cartoon vision. It is so odd I am not sure if this is a bug, or if the developers just want to put entirely random "features" in the game for absolutely no reason.

At times I do feel like we were cheated. A lot of us put money while it was in early access expecting a realistic tactical shooter. Instead we get something that goes out of its way to not be realistic constantly, while having such random illogical decisions. At this point I feel like it would be better if legally the IP and game code/assets for seized by a 3rd party to finish the game. Void seems to be made up of a combination of some of the dumbest and incompetent people in game design.

MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI motherboard - what kind of boot times are you getting?

Just curious as to what people's BIOS boot times are for the PRO X870E-P WIFI motherboard. For me they tend to be around 19-20 seconds with Memory Context Restore and EXPO enabled.

Previous motherboard, an ASRock X670E, BIOS boot times were around 9 seconds. Not a big deal as 19-20 seconds is not that bad, but wondering what other people are getting with this board. Or if there are any settings that can bring the boot time down a bit.

9850X3D with MSI PRO X870E-P - what to do for best performance?

Wanting to see what can be done to get some more performance out of my CPU. Was skimming over the TPU review of the 9850X3D, and was wondering if this was a solid guide for reliable OCing for this motherboard:

  • Set PBO mode to "manual."
  • Then, I removed all the power and current limits.
  • I also set +200 MHz with a scalar of x10.
  • Last but not least, I set Curve Optimizer to -20 all cores.
  • That turned out to be fully stable, so I set -25, -30, -35, -40 with quick stability testing at each setting.
  • At -40 the CPU was unstable, so I settled for -35.

Or is there something else I should do/not do for this specific motherboard?

RAM is F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5.

What are some good free tests to check for CPU stability? Is Prime95 still a good test?

Are MSI M.2 heatsink attachments proprietary? Was wanting to reuse old heatsinks but cannot figure out how to mount them

Just swapped out an ASRock X670E PG Lightning for an MSI Pro X870E-P Wifi. The MSI motherboard only came with a single heatsink, so wanted to reuse my old motherboard's heatsinks.

The single MSI heatsink uses a standoff that has a rotating bracket the holds the SSD in place, and then you simply slide the heatsink over and press down. It works great.

The other two M.2 slots use a "joystick" like EZ M.2 on the standoffs to retain the SSDs in place, these also work well. The problem is there is no provision to screw in a heatsink into the standoff.

As I had spare standoffs without the EZ system, I figured I could screw those in. But the problem is the part above where the SSDs slide into place has a different screw size and height. So I still cannot attach the heatsinks.

What the heatsinks look like.

What the MSI M.2 slots look like.

I was thinking getting more of the MSI heatsinks like the one that works with the 1st M.2 slot, assuming they sold them, for the other slots. The problem is that the "towers" on top of the M.2 slots are different heights on the 2nd and 3rd M.2 slots and don't seem to have the same mechanism to latch the MSI heatsink into place. So the provided heatsink does not appear to attach to M.2 slots 2 or 3 either.

Kind of confused at what heatsink would be compatible with these MSI M.2 slots. Any suggestions? SN850X 4TB drives can get quite hot and the heatsink brought temps down by 15C or so.

MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI - RAM timing question

Installed my MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI motherboard. Updated BIOS then went through some of the settings, found AMD EXPO and enabled it.

Works good though the Bank Cycle Time (tRC) seems to be a bit higher than it was on my previous ASRock X670E motherboard.

RAM is:

32GB G.SKILL Flare X5 DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

First screen shot is what CPU-Z (latest version) shows the RAM timings in the MSI board, with 146 Bank Cycle Time. Second screen shot is what the ASRock board would get with the same RAM, 135.

Wondering why it is higher on the MSI board, and if it would produce any noticeable changes in performance.

I did enable Memory Context Restore to get boot times down, to around 17.7 seconds (up from 9.7 seconds on the ASRock X670E). Not sure if that has anything to do with it. I am okay with a 17-18 second BIOS boot time, but a bit disappointed it does take longer than my old board. I assume there is no way to further reduce boot times?

Are there any other settings I should enable for better performance? There are some X3D settings in the BIOS though the manual does not really explain anything in the BIOS. I do have an X3D CPU, so if there is anything I should enable disable that would be good to know.

Noctua NH-D15 140mm (6x 6mm heatpipes) or Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE 120mm (7x 6mm heatpipes)

Have both of these coolers lying around. Last I checked the performance difference is negligible. Though would anyone have any preference for using one over the other?

Phantom Spirit has 7 heatpipes but 120mm fans.

NH-15 has 6 heatpipes, but 140mm fans.

When it comes to temperatures I think the difference unnoticeable, though would the 140mm fans be more beneficial over an extra heatpipe? I assume at a similar RPM the 140mm will be a bit quieter; both coolers seem to max out at 1,500 RPM.

NH-D15 slightly bent towers, 8 year old NT-H1 & NA-STPG1 questions

Have a few questions about some Noctua items I have.

I have a NH-D15 Chromax.black, the towers were slightly bent after I received it. I was able to gently tilt it back to make it more straight. I assume this should not be an issue in terms of performance? Have not yet used it, but am planning to install it.

I also have some 8 year old NT-H1 thermal paste. It was opened and used for two CPU installs, the end cap went back on and I never used it again. I assume this should still work just fine?

For the NA-STPG1 AM5 thermal paste guard, I assume this works with the new 9850X3D CPUs? Don't see why it wouldn't, but thought I'd make sure.

M.2 SSD Heatsinks

Does Micro Center still sell any cheap M.2 compatible SSD heatsinks? Have an SN850X and SK Hynix P31 that will need a heat sink. Looking for something low profile. I recall checking a few years ago and they had some cheap basic ones for around $5.

Using the store's search nothing comes up, but using Google shows a few models at $15 or so but seemingly always defaults to a store location on the other side of the country with no option to check local stock. Seems like the search function is not all that great on their website.

Wondering if they carry and specific models that I can search for directly to see if they have stock locally.

Changing motherboards without reinstalling Windows 11 & RAM compatibility question

Going to be changing my motherboard soon as I decided to get a new CPU/motherboard bundle. Wondering what steps I should take to ensure I have a smooth transition and I can reboot into Windows 11 without any issues. Do not want to reinstall Windows (will back up Windows install prior to doing anything).

Going from an ASRock AM5 motherboard:

https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X670E%20PG%20Lightning/index.asp#Specification

To what will likely be this MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI AM5 motherboard (essentially the same price as just getting the CPU; I realize it is not much of an upgrade):

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-X870E-P-WIFI/Specification

Currently I use Windows 11 with an offline account. In the BIOS, fTPM and Secure Boot is enabled. Bit Locker is disabled for all drives.

  1. Will I need to disable fTPM and Secure Boot prior to swapping the motherboard, or should I leave the motherboard settings alone?

  2. Should I uninstall the chipset drivers for the current motherboard within Windows prior to swapping?

  3. Anything else I should do or check prior to swapping the motherboards?

  4. I currently have the following RAM, which I would like to reuse:

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

https://www.gskill.com/product/165/396/1673491242/F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

Will this run at EXPO speeds with the MSI PRO X870E-P WIFI:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-X870E-P-WIFI/support#mem

I cannot find the exact SKU, but could find a 16GB kit that is supported:

F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5N

Not sure if that means all F5-6000J3038F16GX2-***** kits are supported.

New motherboard - MSI X870E-P PRO a good motherboard to upgrade to from my current ASRock X670E PG Lightning?

Looking to get a new CPU/motherboard/RAM combo. MSI X870E-P PRO is something that is an option to purchase:

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-X870E-P-WIFI

There is nothing wrong with my current motherboard, it is just cheaper to get a bundle with a new CPU/RAM/motherboard than getting just the CPU itself after I sell the extra hardware.

Current motherboard is ASRock X670E Lightning PG:

https://pg.asrock.com/mb/AMD/X670E%20PG%20Lightning/index.asp#Gallery

RAM I would use (this looks faster than the included CL36 Corsair RAM I would get, I'd just sell that kit and keep my current kit):

32GB G.SKILL Flare X5 DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5 (exact SKU not support on the MSI X870E-P PRO page, I assume it should work at EXPO speeds though?)

https://www.gskill.com/product/165/396/1673491242/F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5

Wondering if there is anything that would be a noteworthy downgrade from my current motherboard.

The MSI comes with a Wireless & Bluetooth M.2 pre-installed, which I lack, so that is nice if I want to move my PC where a Ethernet cable is not practical. But is this a good wireless to use or is it junk? It can't quite tell what model it is as the specs page does not list it.

ASRock LAN - Dragon RTL8125BG

MSI LAN - Realtek 8126VB 5G LAN

Not sure which is better, if any. I use an Ethernet cable directly to the router/modem. Is there any noteworthy difference between these two?

Audio is the same Realtek ALC897.

I see that it has 1 less M.2 slot for SSDs which is a bit disappointing:

MSI X870E-P PRO:

M.2_1 Source (From CPU) supports up to PCIe 5.0 x4 , supports 2280/2260 devices
M.2_2 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 2280/2260 devices
M.2_3 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 22110/2280 devices

ASRock X670E PG Lightning:

- 1 x Blazing M.2 Socket (M2_1, Key M), supports type 2280 PCIe Gen5x4 (128 Gb/s) mode*
Chipset:
- 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_2, Key M), supports type 2280 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s & PCIe Gen3x4 (32 Gb/s) modes*
- 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_3, Key M), supports type 2280 PCIe Gen4x2 (32 Gb/s) mode*
- 1 x Hyper M.2 Socket (M2_4, Key M), supports type 2260/2280 PCIe Gen4x4 (64 Gb/s) mode*

MSI has 1 less M.2 slot for SSDs from the looks of things, but they are all 5.0x4 or 4.0x4 which is nice. I use 3 NVMe drives though so would like 1 extra slot for cloning purposes so that is a disappointment but probably not a deal breaker for me.

My current ASRock has 11 USB Type A ports, the MSI only has 8. That is a bit annoying, but I can use a USB splitter; but I have many peripherals to plug in and will likely use all 8 out of the box.

Anything else noteworthy about this MSI X870E-P PRO motherboard? Price would be cheap so that is not an issue, I just don't want to be swapping to a board that might be notably inferior in some important way.
