First quest, First impression

I just started playing a few hours ago. Graphics, mechanics and building seem incredible so far. But some of the quest writing in this game genuinely baffles me. A guy tells you he's spent eight years tracking down the men who drugged him during the battle of Arrakeen. Revenge has basically consumed his life. He finally finds them after all these years... and then asks you to go kill them while he stays behind chilling.

The frustrating part is how easily this could have been fixed. One line, “I'm injured and can't do it myself” or “They know my face and will run if they see me” and the quest immediately makes sense. Instead, the writing completely undermines the character's own motivation.

Anyway, I'm still glad there is at least a proper narrative. Many survival games don't even try. It might also be my authistic traits focusing too much on small details.

How would you guys rate the narrative/writing overall in the game?

Best XCOM 2 conversion mods that replace both XCOM soldiers and the aliens?

I'm looking for high quality conversion mods for Xcom 2 that significantly change the theme of the game; ideally replacing both the XCOM soldiers and the alien/enemy factions.

My priorities are quality and stability. I'd prefer something polished enough to play through a full campaign without constantly dealing with crashes, broken enemies, or major compatibility issues.

I played the campaign a few times years ago and I would like to add some flavor. I’ve searched online but a lot of these conversions seem to be split across multiple separate mods and files so it’s been a little confusing figuring out which ones I actually need for the full experience.

What are the best conversions or combinations of mods you've actually played and would recommend? Feel free to rank the ones you tried!

Thanks for taking the time

Why are there so few attempts to climb Everest during the summer monsoon?

I've been reading about Reinhold Messner's 1980 solo ascent of Everest during the August monsoon, and something I don't quite understand is why monsoon Everest hasn't attracted more elite mountaineers since then.

Obviously the monsoon brings heavy snowfall, poor visibility, avalanche danger and generally unstable conditions, so I'm not suggesting it's safe or easy. But compared with some of the extremely dangerous objectives elite climbers regularly attempt K2, winter 8000ers, new routes, no O2 ascents, etc.

It doesn't seem obvious to me that monsoon Everest would be so prohibitively dangerous that almost nobody would even attempt it. There are also some potential advantages for: temperatures are somewhat warmer, the jet stream is generally farther north so the extreme summit winds can be less persistent, and you'd potentially have Everest almost entirely to yourself. That means no fatal queues or overcrowded bottlenecks.

Messner showed that a weather window can exist even in August. I'm not a professional mountaineer, so I'm sure there are factors I'm overlooking. Is the main problem avalanche risk and snowfall, logistics, permits and lack of infrastructure, low probability of getting a usable weather window, or is there simply not much prestige or interest in a monsoon ascent?

Thanks for taking the time

Do you guys play with gearloss?

Hey guys, I just started the playing the game. I chose the medium difficulty.

During my first missions, I was in a tarkov mind; keeping weapons and well maintained armor, etc... but then I realized, there is no gearloss when dying. Why would I pick the same weapon or an equivalent tier 2 body armor? I won't lose mine. I could play the whole thing with the same gear set.

So it's more about looting materials for upgrades I guess? I definately will swtich to gear loss once I'm familiarized with the game as it brings at least a little tension.

I'm wondering what's the dev's intended difficulty when they made the game?

Also, I'm curious to know on which difficulty settings do you guys play?

This changes everything for me

I really enjoy switching to third person sometimes just to look at my character while exploring. It adds a lot to the immersion for me, especially when you can actually see the gear you're carrying.

Visible Sheathed Gear is honestly an awesome mod. Being able to see my weapons and shield on my character, and even adjust exactly how they sit, makes a surprisingly big difference. Definitely one of those mods I didn't realize how much I wanted until I installed it.

Add TPCO (Third person camera Overhaul) with Visible Sheated Gear and you get a proper third mode person that actually works.

Big thanks to ThatsItSirYoureLeaving for finally making this possible.

Perma banned from PC MasterRace

I posted this screenshot on PC Master Race and wrote: Remember when there were only 2 of them? I feel like it's ages ago.

I got immediately dogpiled; called an incel, redpilled, all that shit. There were over ten comments in less than three minutes, every single one of them insulting me. Not that I give a fuck, but I was honestly caught off guard. Someone commented 'enjoy your ban,' which I thought was just a hilarious overreaction since I didn't even do anything wrong. A minute later, I was permabanned. What the fuck has the world come to? Show even the smallest sign that you're not part of the hivemind, and you're instantly the enemy, guilty of wrongthink."

Anyone else deal with return-to-work anxiety after a long medical leave?

Hey everyone,

Using a throwaway for obvious reasons. I’ve been on a prolonged medical leave for the last 7 months due to health issues. I’m finally cleared and set to go back to full duty in a few weeks.

I’ve got plenty of time on the job, I’m good at what I do, and I’ve never been the anxious type. But as the return date gets closer, my anxiety is spiking, and it’s honestly surprising me. I’m second-guessing things I used to do in my sleep, worrying about catching back up to the pace of the shift, and wondering if my head is going to be 100% in the game the second I step back into the cruiser.

Has anyone else here been off the road for a significant stretch of time and dealt with this? How did you shake the rust off, and how long did it take for the muscle memory to kick back in so you felt like yourself again?

Stay safe out there.

Is it possible to stay small?

Hey guys,

I’ve played a lot of space games, and I’ve had my eye on X4 for years. It’s actually been sitting in my library for over a year now. I’d consider myself an average player (it took me a while to get comfortable with Endless Space 2), but I don’t mind learning complex mechanics. I’ve spent years in Elite, played EVE Online, and a bit of Star Citizen as well.

What’s been holding me back from X4 is the empire-building side of it. I’m not sure I’m really interested in creating a massive faction and dominating the universe, lol. I’m a simple guy.

Is it possible to play X4 in a small-scale way just owning a ship, maybe a crew, and doing contracts like mining, hauling, and combat without having to expand into a full empire or large scale trading economy?

Why did they make space look like this?

When I first played Starfield, I was so disapointed by the whole ship/space and travel system. I also didn't like how clear space was. Space is supposed to be a dark void. In Starfield, it looks very washed out.

I recently started playing with a few mods and I'm having a better time. But one of these mods makes space looks as it should; dark and it's beautiful.

Now I wonder why did they take the decision to make space look this way? They were able to make space look realistic and ambient. (an early mod was able to by tweaking a few settings)

Why do you think they decided to make space look so light, bakcgroud is kinda light blue instead of what it's supposed to look like? I just can't get my head around this decision. With dark space, you can see the bright colors and stars.

EDIT: Coming from Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, X4, Avorion, Stellaris. I'm used to games that tries to make space look realistic. So my question was why Starfield didn't try to.

Honnestly, with some answers I'm getting, I think I understand. Lots of starfield players aren't necessarily space ''nerds'' as someone else put it. Environement and space fidelity dosen't really matter and probably wasnt a priority for Bethesda.

For many of you, Starfield's space is beautiful and I'm just dumb for asking this question.

Fair enough, different perspectives

Improving home planet population?

My brain is bleeding tonight. Seriously I struggle with everything learning this game.

I'm just starting (around turn 30) and my home planet is already at max capacity at 5...

I searched for housing units or anything I could research that would allow me to expand my population cap on the planet but I didnt find anything. Is there something I missed? Something I can research that would let me build housing or appartments etc...?

Also, is it possible to shuttle population from a colony to another? If so, how would one achieve this feat?

Thanks guys

Dust to Dust part 3

Hey guys,

I just started the game and learning every turn. I'm still exploring my surroundings when I come across that quest. It simply asks me to scan a curiosity on a neighbour system.

Then I get ambushed by a pirate Prowler and Accelarator.

My empire has a few explorers. That's all I have right now lol. I have no shot against that accelerator.

Why did I get this quest so soon? Is this a troll and I cant win or there is something I'm doing wrong.

Thanks

Where to start as a new player?

I've been wanting to play LoL for a lonngggg time but I always felt intimidated by it's complexity. I finally decided to try my luck. There's a 3 or 4 steps tutorial that sucks ass telling me that I buy gear and destroy towers. Alright.

Now, I want to learn the game and different heroes. I don't want to burn out playing bots so SwiftPlay seems to be my only option right now. I watched a few videos and read tons of posts and article and I noticed that Swiftplay changed this January 2026; now starting at lvl 3 with a bunch of money. Not knowing the characters and counters, first lane fights are most of the time ugly fighting a lvl 3 opponent from the start.

Do you guys have any tips for me to learn and prepare for the actual classic LoL experience? Like how should I approach my first games and account levels? I'm not sure if I'm being clear as english isnt my mother tongue but since I started a few hours ago, I just feel like someone is making love to me without my consent.

. EDIT: I’m not sure why I’m being downvoted but most of you guys were very kind and I got some great answers so far. Thanks for taking the time

New to the 4x genre - Need advice

Hey guys, I’m a huge sci fi fan; played my fair share of Elite Dangerous, Eve online and StarSector. I never really played strategy games as I get overwhelmed when too much shit is going on at the same time. I’ve been wanting to learn 4x games for a while but was intimidated by the learning curve. I finally bought AOW Planetfall a few weeks ago. I must say, I’m having fun but something is lacking and I can’t really figure out what it is. It’s a fun game but it might lack depth even though im a beginner. I want to feel like I’m part of a world with good lore. So im currently looking at Endless Space 2 and Stellaris. Both games are getting kinda old though. Note that I’m a beginner but I’m in the mood to learn. Which one between these 2 would you guys suggest and why? Thank you so much

Recoil and sound mod?

Hi guys,

I checked out the mods on nexxus but there are so many of them. I like the game but imo, it lacks the ''feel'' when shooting a gun. Feels like a paintball gun at times. Is there any good mod that improves guns and make them feel more realistic? Same for the sound?

Thanks so much

What do you guys do early game?

Hey, new to the game. I played for around 10 hours. I got a few ships, few captains and been killing some pirates. I’ve mostly been smuggling some stuff to make some early game money. I don’t really know what to do. So main campaign aside, what do you guys do when starting a new game? What are your goals? I think my problem is that I have no goals to look forward to. I’m just chilling around smuggling black market goods.

Should I try HollowKnight?

Hey guys,

I never play platformer games. I'm more of a rpg/fps guy. I heard so many good things about HollowKnight and I gotta admit, I'm kinda curious now. How can I 2D platform game be so good? The last platformer I played was probably on my Sega Genesis when I was a kid. I also read that the game can be pretty hard at times; is it manageable for someone who don't play platformers?

So I'm wondering if I should buy the first game and experience it myself. It's only 20$ but I'm living that ramen noodle lifestyle right now.

Do you guys think that I can enjoy the game without being a huge platformer fan? What’s unique about this game compared to the rest?

EDITL: I'm sorry if I didn't use the term metroidvania.

EDIT2: Thanks for your comments, HollowKnight was the first metroidvania for some of you and nobody seems to regret buying it. I just got the game and can't wait to finally experience what most people call a masterpiece! I'm also new to reddit so I don't know why I got so many downvotes but most of you guys were very kind. Thanks again!

Been looking for my first hero shooter and Valorant feels perfect

I tried Marvel Rivals first, but the UI is so cluttered and overwhelming with stuff everywhere. Gameplay is fine but I just didn't feel it. It's dumb but the UI and the infinite amount of menus really killed it for me. Might be how my brain is weirdly wired.

I then played Overwatch and actually enjoyed it, but something told me I should try Valorant before fully settling on a game. I've been wanting to try it for a while but I felt intimidated somehow.

Switched over to Valorant and it just feels right. The UI is super clean, simple, and smooth. Everything clicks perfectly and it’s genuinely a breath of fresh air after Marvel Rivals & Overwatch.

I just wanted to share that I finally settled on Valorant and I’m happy to be part of the community, even though I’m VERY late to the party.

I can’t wait to improve and try out different agents!

EDIT: I'm sorry if I called Valorant a hero shooter. Whatever you want to call it, I'm enjoying it.
