Random encounters in the USA

I'm currently writing a book that is very heavily inspired by DnD. The setting is a fantasy version of the USA. The characters are essentially magic cops and they are going across the US to find and stop a cult from resurrecting a dead god. So far I have several random encounters that the party will come across that have absolutely nothing to do with the story and I want a few more. These are the ideas that I already have so far.

-A dulahan motorcyclist that has been terrorizing a small town for a very long time.

-A literal ghost town that was created during the Old West when a train derailed and the resulting accident killed everyone in town and on the train. Every night on the highway, the tragedy replays.

-A coven of hags lures in travelers to their tourist trap to kill and eat them.

-A town is forced to dance constantly because the historical society found an old gramophone and blank record, the music it plays is forcing everyone to dance and no one can stop it.

-A creature in the woods haunts a small rural town.

-While driving down the highway, a massive storm elemental manifests and wreaks havoc across the land.

-A mimic in the form of a general store attacks the party when they stop to get snacks.

-In an abandoned factory town, the factory still runs. Constructs and summoned creatures still pump out nonsensical objects and the factory needs to be shut down as many of the objects are dangerous.

-Small fishing village is run by a cult (that has nothing to do with the other cult) and they try to sacrifice the party to the kraken they worship.

Anyone else got any good ideas for random encounters or side stories? Granted, the party doesn't need to stop and earn money as they already work for the US government as law enforcement. I just want some interesting ideas for things that could happen on the road.

Need some help

I have tried to come up with some story ideas for my third book. The main plot is the characters driving across the US in modern day and it is a world similar to DnD. I want to have the characters encountering random little adventures as they progress through the story and I need a bit of help coming up with ideas for what they would encounter in small town America. I already have a few ideas for what they would encounter in the wilderness like dinosaur stampedes, fey and getting falsely accused by talking animals for littering and brought before a court in the forest. But the only really weird thing I can think of for a random town encounter is that they get captured by a cult that makes up an entire small town and will be sacrificed to a kraken the town worships. But that's not really enough for me. I can think of plenty of small town horror stuff but not really small town fantasy stuff. The only other random encounter I have that feels fantasy Americana is a vampire trucker that the characters stumble upon randomly in an old gas station. Any ideas would be fantastic.

Historical research

I'm trying to find work in the field. I was wondering if there is any historical research projects that you guys could point me towards that are looking for assistants. I haven't found much luck on my own. I live in the Pacific Northwest, specifically Washington.

What's your least favorite quest to do in any of the games?

I always hated to do these quests in the GBA games where you had to catch stuff. Like you had to freeze these little bastards in Season of Flame in one of the earliest levels and I could never figure out how to get them all as a kid because they were too fast and hard to see. So I would just ignore those types of mini games because I couldn't figure out how to do it. There were a couple of mini games like that in Season of Flame.

Spyro original trilogy plots

Spyro 1: Save your dragon dads from being incased in crystal by an old enemy to dragons.

Spyro 2: Get kidnapped and forced to clean up some random idiots mess because the guy they summoned is a dragon racist.

Spyro 3: Save an entire generation of baby dragons from a magical dictator who wants to use their wings for a spell so she can be immortal.

Nerd historical society

For anyone who doesn't know, there is a museum of pop culture in Seattle. It's okay. I have seen archives of old comics and other nerd stuff but not really a dedicated historical society to preservation of nerd culture. I am hoping to get a career either as a librarian, archivist, or in other history adjacent fields. I had the idea for beginning a historical society that focuses on the preservation of nerd culture. This whole thing would be online and a digital museum for anyone to learn about. The idea being that the group preserves anything relating to nerd culture. The group would collect stories from people like table top players or from fan conventions and preserve them for anyone to listen to.

Potential ending

Considering the ending of season 3 is described as bittersweet, I have a few ideas on what the means. Octavia does forgive Stolas and the IMP gang becomes like a family or she sees them in a more positive light, however they can't really spend time together or be a real family because of things beyond their control. It appears like there will be an imp rising in Hell so it is quite possible that Octavia can't interact with them because of political bullshit and her being a goetia. That or because Stolas is still exiled, she forgives him but they still can't be together because of he is still exiled. Yes, they could meet in secret or talk over the phone but its not really the same thing. Either way, I think that something beyond anyone's control might happen because the best tragedies are the ones that can't really be avoided.

Playing through Spyro reignited for the 50th time.

I lost count of how many times I played this game. I never played the originals. Personally, I genuinely wished they did something different with the first game. It's OK but just OK. I don't like the bosses at all. I really wish they had the portals, got rid of the dumb chests like the spinny chests and hopping chests. I also wish they had the baskets and vases like the other games. I wish that the cut content was put in to like the Industrialists and Aquafires. Aside from that, I like the designs of the dragons.

Projects on the back burner

So far, I'm putting the finishing touches on my second book and writing my third book. But this has nothing to do with that. This post is more about project ideas that I have and I'm not entirely sure how to go about them for two very different reasons.

-The first one I have is more about the fact I don't know how to write a western. It's more of a fantasy western but I don't know whether to make this its own thing entirely or set it in the same world as my first three books. The story idea is a fantasy western with gunslinging dinosaurs. I know I want the main character to be a sheriff type character but the main problem is I don't know what the story is.

-The second one is less me not sure what to do with the story and more something that needs a group of people to work on it. If you know about Welcome Home Restoration Project or the Pendog Creative Library, this is the idea. Its an unfiction project but its not horror related at all. The idea is that it is a group of people cataloging old fantasy and sci-fi stuff from different eras. Pulp fantasy and sci-fi, old comics, table top games, children's media and long running series along with the history behind those different characters. There would be a story underneath it like Welcome Home and Pendog with the characters being alive but there isn't a horror element to it. It would be your typical good vs evil type story. There'd be one really big and incredibly dangerous bad guy similar to Sauron or Vecna who wants to break into the real world and you'd have other hero characters trying to stop him along with various villains. Some of the characters would be geared more towards younger audiences and would have to deal with the introduction to more mature themes. The unfiction history aspect of the site would involve themes from the real world like progressive ideals being the foundation of fantasy and sci-fi, the satanic panic and moral outrage and other things that would be intertwined with these genres. The main problem I have is that this would require artwork and a lot of other skills I don't have and definitely would require some money that I also don't have as well as collaborators which again I don't have. I will definitely hold onto this one for awhile but I think it could work.

Getting closer and closer to finishing book 2

So far I've had someone beta reading my second book and they have found a few errors but they genuinely love my book. Although I do personally know the beta reader and they have published their own books, they still love the book.

I have found someone to draw the cover and do some illustrations.

I plan on putting it up on Ingram and Amazon.

I will contact a reviewer who gave my first book glowing praise (he likened it to the Dresden files and Terry Pratchet) to do a review.

De-extinction, the real jurassic park

I was thinking a bit about the idea of de-extinction, where people clone back into existence extinct animals and other lifeforms that went extinct. Although we will never get a jurassic park because of the half life of DNA, I think it would be incredible if there was an effort to bring back recently extinct animals like dodos, tasmanian tigers, great auks and other creatures. What are your opinions on this? I believe within our lifetimes, there will be zoos and wildlife preserves that showcase aurouchs, dodo birds, and moa.

Tool use in extinct animals

Anyone think its possible some prehistorical animals used tools. The use of tools in animals is pretty wide spread. Like I can imagine something like a small dinosaur using a stick to skewer insects like some species of birds do today. It doesn't have to be really that complex or anything. It could be something simple.

Looking for work in archives, anything helps.

I'm trying to find a job in archives. I already have an associates degree in library science and I have done several archives related internships. I was wondering if there are any independent archives or online archives looking for someone who knows what they are doing? I haven't had a ton of success finding a job. I live in Washington by the way.

The Department of Adventuring

Although this book came out last year, I wrote a book. I'm currently working on my second book in the same universe. Check out the Department of Adventuring on Amazon.
