Akumajou Dracula (FDS) level 2-4: the NES Castlevania, when I had first contact with this great Konami game, I usually got crushed by these chandeliers.

Splatterhouse (PCE) level 6: I could pass every level without losing a Rick in this great Namco game, except for this very hard level 6 as it needs not only skill but also luck.

City Connection (ARC) level 1: I admit that I am bad at this great Jaleco game, I just couldn't even pass level 1...

Truxton (GEN) level 1: I usually got killed by the mini boss in level 1 in the great Toaplan game, while I had little problems with other levels' mini bosses.

Street Fighter 2010 (NES) planet 3: I spent more extra practice time in this hard sand level than other levels in this great Capcom game.

The game is Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (SNES)

This Steambot Chronicles (PS2) ad looks more like a movie ad to me.

Being a street musician is kind of fun in this game. 🎵🎷🎺🪗🎻🎶

Listened to Shin Megami Tensei (SFC/SNES RPG) ending music (YT video credit: @madgast123) again today.

To this day, I am still suprised that the Shin Megami Tensei (SFC/SNES RPG) ending music sounds so hopeful and peaceful, while the RPG endings are quite hopeless and restless, and it sounds actually like some Doraemon game music to me...

Disturbing moments in video games that have haunted you — the moments you wish you could unsee? 🙈

Shin Megami Tensei (PSX): the moment when the Black Baron's giant, creepy hands grab the Law Hero. It was such a cheap and quick yet effective jump scare that it haunted me every time I replayed the Alice scene. 🙈

Metroid Fusion (GBA): the suffering, distorted, and melting face of the Nightmare boss. It genuinely gave me nightmares for a few nights. 🙈

Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (ARC): Ken's girlfriend's first appearance—she looked just like a blow-up doll... 🙈

Sub-Zero from the MK series has his own spin-off game, MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero. Firebrand from the GnG sereis has its own spin-off game, Demon's Crest. Clara from the PI series has her own spin-off game, Purikura Daisakusen. I want [this character] to have the same pin-off treatment as well!

That is...Robo Keaton from the Aero Fighters series (Video System Co.), best with Mao Mao, featuring in action games that play like Sega's Alien Storm. I might call it Aero Storm!

What's your take on virtual arcade game rooms? An interesting alternative gaming experience, or just a total waste of time?

YT video credit: simonthornton3084

A while back, I tried using something like EmuVR to build a retro game room modeled after my old one. I didn’t get very far—it was too much effort, and the first draft didn’t look right.

I am not a rhythm game fan. In the 90s, my friend begged me to play EZ2DJ at the arcade; my coins were wasted. I'd rather have used my coins on JJBA: HFTF in the same room. Strangely, to this day, I still remember one EZ2DJ song clearly.

This EZ2DJ song: "Look Out." It was the song my friend picked for me. I suck at EZ2DJ, but this song impressed me quite a bit.

"I am a simple man; I want a simple game. What games in your book are simple yet entertaining?"

NES Adventure Island (I had the Famicom version, Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima)... a simple, entertaining, and challenging classic.

I played Sega's Wonder Boy arcade game before discovering it on the NES/Famicom, but I wasn't very good at it. I wanted to practice more, but I didn't have much arcade money. Once I got my own Famicom copy, I trained intensively and eventually beat it using continues (the cute Hudson 🐝).

One day at the arcade, I saw a custom cabinet running the Famicom version of Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima (not one of the official Nintendo VS. System cabinets). Nobody was playing it. So I tried to insert coin to play that, and though it took me a little time to get used to the arcade stick, my home-console practice completely paid off. I managed to play for almost half an hour on a single credit. A crowd actually gathered to watch me play—it was an extraordinary experience to me!

Today June 21, Spartan X (Famicom), one of my must-have Famicom action games, was born 42 years ago.

The first time I played Spartan X was in an arcade center. I remember the long line up waiting for turns to play. We kids just called this game "Jackie Chan" (in his film, Wheels on Meals) because we saw him in the arcade poster at the arcade center. When a Famicom port was released, I begged my parents for a copy. I played it at home every day after that, trying to replicate my arcade skills on the console. It’s always been one of my essential FC action games.
