Defiant Dreams

Defiant Dreams

I am about to start reading this book. I fell in love with stories from Afghanistan after reading the Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid Suns many years ago. Stories from conflict-torn areas show how these circumstances bring out the best and worst in people - and everything in between. Have you read this book?

Galaxy

Models like this are such a stark departure from the mostly hideous watches one currently sees on the HMT website. I bought this just a couple of months ago - so, they still can make models that are easy on the eye.

Seiko Flightmaster

I love the depth on this stunner's dial. No, I do not use the complications - and while they do look overwhelming, somehow, they add to the watch's quirky character. I am so glad I bought this many years ago, before it was discontinued. I've kept it on its original strap, which I find quite comfortable. It has quite the wrist presence, but I have not received a single compliment for over a decade. Haha!

Independence

Commemorative watch released in 1997. The quality is top class - hurts all the more to see the new (hideous) models launched to mark the 80th Independence Day.

The OG Devnagari

The avalanche of devnagari watches over the past few days inspired me to share the OG devnagari - this elegant HMT. The only devnagari watch I'll ever need - simple, clean and effortlessly timeless!

Prince Edward Medal 1921

I bought this some years ago. It marks Prince Edward's visit to Bombay, India in November 1921.

Taking Stock

There are days when I just sit looking at these beauties. Today is one such day. What's more, the pitter patter of rain makes this madness even better!

Poor Packaging: Mumbai Mint

I just received this silver Lakshmi coin from the Mumbai mint. It came packed in the invoice! No box, no packaging! In my online research before buying it, I'd seen it shipped in a nice red box with all the bells and whistles. Has anyone else experienced the same? The coin itself is nice, but I am quite underwhelmed by the overall packaging.

Of Memories and Reminders

My father-in-law passed away two years ago. He would treat watches as pure utility - to tell time. The only concession he made for aesthetics: gold color and roman numerals. Today, while looking for something, I found his watches ticking away efficiently. Telling the right time as they should. A sombre reminder that time and tide wait for no one. The wheel of time continues to move - it's up to us to make the most of what we are left with.

Alarm Clock

I rarely see clocks here. Here's one I bought recently. I really liked its retro sci-fi look and the gorgeous numerals. Chalo, show me which clock's sitting on your desk.

Yet Another Seiko

Not my first automatic. Not suffering from any degree of virality. Not found on any hyper influencer's feed. Just a no-nonsense daily beater. The SBPY181.

HMT Rachana

A classic beauty from HMT - art deco case, Roman numerals and black on gold.
