Upgrading a AM4 or getting a Steam Machine?
Which do you think would be better option in this PC environment?
Upgrading would be buying a 9070 XT for $740, a 5600X3D for $170 and a SF850 for $180. Another issue would be getting a new SSD. As my boot drive is very small. Case would be a 15L SFF case. And I'd probably have to get a new cooler aswell. EDIT: I forgot the biggest expense which would be getting a new Monitor that can actually take advantage of the new power.
Or
Just getting a no toil Steam Machine and keep running at 1080P for $1,000-$1,400. And at the $1,400 it includes a 2Tb drive and the controller. Plus the system is tiny.
Considering the price of SSD's and Monitors. The Steam Machine is kinda tempting.
What are your thoughts? For those with older platforms looking to upgrade. Does the Steam machine offer better value in a smaller package?
EDIT: For those wondering. My current PC is a media PC I built years ago. It's a ASRock B450 Fatal1ty ITX/AC $79, AMD 3400G CPU $40, TeamGroup T-Force Xtreem DDR4 CL18 4000Mhz 8Gbx2 $69, No GPU, XPG 500GB NVMe Boot Drive $50, in a IN-Win Chopin Case $100 with a built in 150w PSU $0.
I don't game much. And the Last console I bought was a OG Fat Destiny white PS4 I bought new. But, I kinda still want something to play on and I have Zero Interest towards the PS5.
But, I am asking this question generally. Not just for my sake but others who are also in a similar situation of trying to decide to upgrade old hardware vs getting something complete like a Steam Machine. Because lets be real. Trying to build a currect platform is simply beyond allot of peoples means. Could I do it yeah, Do I really want to no. As any AM5 upgrade would be atleast another $700 on top. Plus, I'd lose my ITX format because Bundles are only ATX or mATX. And buying separate is insane right now. DDR5 + SSD + New Monitor = 💀
