A handful of various small experiences over the years

34 years old and I've had a handful of odd experiences over the decades so I'll just write them out individually since a lot of them are fairly short.

  1. I was probably around 10 or 11 years old when I was visiting my grandparents on my father's side of the family. My grandad had a garage that wasn't really used for anything other than cluttered storage. Lowkey always hated going in there for anything. Always felt like something was hanging over my head whenever I was in there and it reeked of ... something. I could really only describe it as "death". Eventually we were leaving my grandparents for the night and I brought it up to my mom and she told me she could "smell death" in the house. About a few weeks afterwards my grandmother passed away.

  2. Moved out into the countryside in the 2010's where our parents had found a home built in the 1910's where we would be staying for the next few years. We were still moving into the place and had managed to move in a lot of the bigger furniture that day so my parents told my sister and I that they'll be going out to grab pizza and bring it back since there's no place that delivers out here. My sister and I entertained ourselves for a while but after things began to settle down, I remember hearing the sound of a baby crying. My sister and I were obviously very weirded out and since our parents weren't back and we didn't have phones at the time, we walked out into the dead of night in the middle of nowhere to go walk to one of our neighbors miles away.

  3. Still having lived out in that old home and in the middle of nowhere for a while, an older gentleman was at a store I used to go to nearby. Asked if we were new around the area since it's a fairly small town and all and I'm sure he could piece together that a boy no older than 20 wasn't from around this older town. We chatted for a little bit but I remember him telling me specifically "If you're out in the forest and you hear someone calling for you, you don't answer back".

  4. Driving to work one day from my home out there and I saw some kind of creature off the side of the road. Originally I thought it was just a dog out in the fields but as I was driving by it and getting closer I noticed it much bigger than a normal dog and hunched over something facing away from me. I thought maybe it could be a coyote or even a wolf as I've seen a wolf out here before too but its fur had almost zig-zag patterns in it of brown and black with a mane that flared from its spine. Reminded me of a Hyena but way bigger. If it was some predatory canine I certainly wasn't going to get out of my car and venture into the middle of a field to find out so I kept driving.

Shure MV7 sounds quiet?

I've had my MV7 for a year or two now and while it works really well, it always comes through as really quiet when being picked up by my PC or anything. I've recently used the Motiv software to try and adjust the sensitivity to pick up my voice more but even still, audio comes through relatively quiet. I almost assume other people in discord or in-game chat have to turn me up to 200% just to hear me.

Game collecting should draw a line between "Good and rare game" vs "Dogshit game that sold like shit for a reason"

On one hand you have games like Earthbound for the SNES. Classic rare game that's actually good and fun to play but didn't sell well in the west hence it's current price. Compare that to games that are "rare" simply because they were shovelware trash games that sold only 100 copies. Like sure dude, if you really want to spend $800 on Smurfs Racing for the PS2 that's on you. People complain that games like these shouldn't be the price that they are at (and they're right) but man oh man they gotta buy it because it's """"""RARE""""""".

Chapter 1 looks like that because it very likely took some inspiration from Paper Mario

We even fight a Jester in it

You can really feel the lack of 1000 employees this season

Sprites glitching through the map, free falling glitches, hit registry issues and the list goes on and on. Season would be infinitely better if they had any type of QA but instead we're left with a glitchy, buggy mess with the only thing keeping players invested being the same 20 sprites each with a different texture slapped on them in blender.

Does eBay not care about false/incorrect listings anymore?

Was browsing games on eBay and saw someone listing a game under a completely different name, even the item description was calling it the wrong name despite the images clearly showing that it's not the game that they listed. Submitted a report to eBay about the misinformation and they sent back "We determined nothing is wrong".

Is it normal for an earthbound cartridge to rattle?

Some cartridges I own have a little bit of wiggle/rattle to them when you pick them up but the Earthbound one feels like the board isn't completely stable inside the case. The game reads just fine in my SNES but I was wondering if this is normal across all copies of this game or if this is an issue with the case itself.

[Meta] Feels like this sub is becoming less about actual moral discussions and more about posting thinly veiled meme videos and framing them as "moral discussions".

This sub is slowly becoming r/funny but titling each video as a moral quandary.

Started getting back into the game and quickly remembered why I left

Finally got out of bot games upon returning to the game and started getting real players again. Queued up and called Jungle and right from the getgo, my teammate started stealing jungle from me and evolved before I could. Died to the enemy jungle while pivoting to bottom lane and just exited the game. Yeah nah teammates like that can enjoy losing for all I care.
