Life jackets that fit a smaller toy poodle

Hi, our little guy is just under 5 months old and is almost 5lbs. We are going to a lake in lake July and would love to let him have a little swim off the beach if he wants to so I am looking for a small fitting life jacket for him. All the ones I have seen online look too large and it seems kind of. difficult to find a life jacket for a tiny dog.I am wondering if anybody has ever purchased one and can offer a recommendation?

Many thanks!

Getting a lab sleep study covered by insurance

Hi, I am trying to do a lab study to get a more accurate reading of RERA's and other sleep data. I was using chatGPT to research if I could get my insurance to cover this and it informed me that insurance companies typically would not cover an in-lab sleep study unless you first do a home test and it's findings are inconclusive. I did a WatchPAT test like 2 years ago with Lofta which showed mild sleep apnea and UARS like numbers. I have been on CPAP/BIPAP since but it has been ineffective in treating my issues.

So I am worried that my insurance will not cover a lab study and wondering if anybody can offer any insight about this? I am going to see a doctor who is known for working with UARS so I am hoping he will make a strong case for getting an in-lab study done to get more accurate readings. Anyway I won't do a lab study unless my insurance company first approves an authorization request but trying to find out now what my changes may be like.

I appreciate any insight anybody can offer.

Thanks!!!

Gov tech

Hi, been working on a federal contract for the past 5 years and looking for a change. I would prefer to get out of Gov sector and in to something private but with the state of the job market I am thinking pivoting to another Gov tech role might be easier since I have clearance. I am wondering of anybody here is working in this industry and can offer any advice on trying to find gov sector roles? I appreciate any feedback you might have.

Where to buy Schwarzkopf Blonde Me Lightener

Hi, I am trying to find professional grade Schwarzkopf Blonde Me products and I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I did see it on Amazon but I really don't trust the authenticity of beauty products on Amazon. Does anybody happen to know where I can find this hair dye?

Puppy is finally ready to walk outside.

Hi everyone, our 5 month old toy poodle just completed his final round of vaccinations and is finally ready to walk outside properly for the first time and we are very excited for him to start walking outdoors!

Until now we have been bringing him everywhere in a sling bag — restaurants, walks around our neighborhood, all over the city so he's had great exposure to the world just not at ground level yet. He currently weighs just over 4lbs so he's a tiny little guy.

We live in a major city so there are dogs everywhere of all breeds and sizes which is both exciting and a little nerve wracking given how small he is. I'm planning to start on quieter streets in our neighborhood to ease him in gradually.

He attended a puppy socialisation class for 5 weeks until he aged out at 16 weeks and was doing really well by the end — he started out extremely shy and came out of his shell beautifully by the final class. Unfortunately we haven't been able to arrange any puppy playdates since then as we don't know anyone with small dogs.

I am wondering if anybody has any advice they can offer for starting him walking outside. I appreciate any feedback you might have.

Thanks!!!

Beans tasting better before their recommended rest period?

Hi! I recently bought some Kenya Mara Estate from PERC. I decided to try it after about 8 days off roast and was surprised by how incredible it tasted. I've been drinking it every day since, and it's now about 15 days off roast, which is more in line with the recommended 2–3 week rest period.

The strange thing is that the cups I've been getting over the past few days haven't been nearly as good as those first few brews. I'm using an xBloom for pour overs and haven't changed anything—the same coffee, same recipe, same water, same settings.

Lately the coffee just tastes a bit flatter and almost slightly under-extracted compared to those first cups. I know beans continue to degas and evolve as they rest, but I would have expected them to taste even better at this point, not worse. Or maybe I just have a weird palate and actually prefer coffee before it's fully rested. 😅

I'm always trying to learn more about the puzzle that is pour-over coffee, so I wanted to ask the knowledgeable folks here: is it common for some coffees to actually peak well before their recommended rest period? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

What to ask for when getting a CBCT scan

Hi, I found an airway focused ortho that does CBCT scans in office as part of a consultation. I plan to make an appointment soon for my first CBCT scan but want to make sure I know exactly what to ask for. I just want to make sure I get the right scans so I can see all of my airways. I appreciate any advice.

Navigating Greatfrontend

Hi, I’ve just started preparing for interviews again and noticed that GreatFrontend is often recommended for practicing frontend interview questions.

I’m trying to get familiar with the site, but it looks like there’s a large question bank (similar to LeetCode), and I’m not sure how best to approach it. Is there a recommended way to work through the challenges, or do most people just dive in and solve as many as possible?

It feels a bit overwhelming at first, so I’m trying to figure out a good starting point or roadmap to track progress.

If anyone has used the site for interview prep, I’d really appreciate any advice or tips.

Thanks!

Pivoting from Government defense contracting to commercial/private sector

Hi, I have been working in the Government contracting sector for the better for 5 years now and the job has completely stagnated. There are no real opportunities for promotions and my salary has not kept up with the cost of living where I live in NYC. I have been remote the entire time I have worked for this company but I have no problem with going back to an office environment if it means a higher salary. I am wondering if anybody here has ever made a similar transition before? I am wondering if private companies view applicants differently who have come from Gov sector jobs. Trying to figure out where I stand in a highly competitive job market. I appreciate any insight if you have any.

Thanks!!

Renting a car north of NYC.

Hi, I am trying to rent a car for a few days later this summer and would like to try and find somewhere to pick up a car outside the city as opposed to the airport. My plan was to pick up in White Plains and just take a train there so I can avoid the hassle of driving in the city and also get a cheaper daily rate.

I see that there is a Hertz in White Plains right near the metro north station so this looks like the most convenient I have found so far. I am wondering if anybody has any other recommendations. I am heading upstate so just looking for places that would near the train line heading north. I appreciate any suggestions anybody might have.

Thanks!!

What type of harness do you use for your toy poodle?

Hi, for those of you who use a harness, which one do you use? I purchased a really nice and very secure harness from Ruffwear but unfortunately had to send it back as it was way too big despite being their smallest size. Are there any brands you know of that specialize in toy breed dogs? I appreciate any suggestions if you have any.

Visiting Saratoga in late July

Hi, I am taking a trip to the Adirondacks in late July and spending a few days in Lake Placid. I have a day to spare at the end of the trip and was planning on visiting Saratoga as I've always wanted to check it out after hearing so many great things. I am wondering however if one night would be too short of time to really do much in the area? The plan is to stay in a hotel downtown and just walk around and explore, eat, drink etc. Would also love to check out the racetrack but we will have a small dog with us so I assume that's a no-go for the racetrack. Would you recommend staying at least 2 nights to really take in the place? One night seems like it would be just be a breeze through on the way home so I figure we won't be able to do a whole lot. I appreciate any feedback if you have any.

Thanks in advance!!

First ever car rental..which insurance to opt in for?

Hi, I currently don't own a car so cancelled my insurance before moving back to NYC for work. I am booking a rental car for late July for a few days and trying to figure out which insurance to opt in for. I am using a Chase Sapphire credit card so I believe they cover certain things but not an liability cover. So I see the option for Complete Protection which I figure I should just get. Just wanted to ask on here as I am quite clueless with how car rentals work. I appreciate any suggestions anybody might have. Thanks in advance.

Birthday restaurant in Lake Placid with outdoor seating

Hi, have booked a few nights in Lake Placid for my birthday in late July. We are visiting with our 6 month old puppy so trying to find a restaurant with outdoor seating for a birthday dinner. The Stagecoach Inn looks incredible but looks more indoors. Somewhere with a view of the lake would be extra nice but doesn't need to be on the lake. I appreciate any suggestions if anybody has any.

Thanks!!

[discussion] Buying my first "fancy" watch for my 40th.

Hi, I have my 40th birthday coming up and I decided to get myself a nice watch which is something I have always wanted. The most expensive watch I have ever owned prior to this is a Timex for under $100 so this is certainly a big step up and setting my budget at around $1000 (maybe a little more).

The top of my list right now is a Hamilton Khaki but not sure which model. I am kind of confused by all the different models available but I generally love this watch and since I never wear suits or shirts and typically wear t-shirts and jeans I figure that that something more sporty and casual would be the most suitable for me as I want a watch I can wear every day.

So with that I am wondering if there are any other watches that people would recommend outside of the Hamilton Khaki family of watches? It doesn't necessarily have to be a field watch but I have generally gravitated towards these since they are so casual to wear. If anybody has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Thanks!!

Summer trip to Lake Placid/Mirror Lake

Hi, I am planning a few day trip to LP around late July. I have never been before so am unfamiliar with the area and wondering how it is this time of year in terms of crowds etc? I know they have the big Ironman event but looks like that will be over by the time we visit. We are looking to just relax, do some swimming and explore the area but we have a small 5 month old puppy so not really looking to do any major hiking. We are planning to stay for around 4 nights so having some day activities would be great. Is there a much to do in the area or is mostly hiking and being on the lake? If anybody has any suggestions or advice I would love to hear it. Any feedback is much appreciated!!

Thanks!!

Best websites for finding Nanny work.

Hi, my wife has been trying to get back in to doing some nanny work and she has been struggling to find work through care.com. I am wondering if there is any other websites that people recommend using? We live in Brooklyn, NY so there is usually plenty of nanny jobs out there but lately it has been a lot different I appreciate any suggestions.
