How often do you attend classes?

Like do you attend all classes? or skip just because you aren't interested in that specific subject? or is it just for the sleep or illness? what do you do in free time when you don't attend voluntarily?

here in India, most colleges have this 75% attendance criteria. and the one i'll be going has 85% criteria per subject :(. so have to attend almost every day so any accidental leave wouldn't harm my grading.

What would you do if you were starting?

I am starting this year as a mechanical engineering student. I have a month before i start. Now, first of all, here's the rough plan, during the 4 years, I will be focusing on the degree alongside fitness/sports, content creation(lifestyle-fashion), film club; then according to the situations if engineering is still alive(hopefully), i would either pursue masters or go for job based on my interests. I am targeting European countries or Australia.

So my queries are,

  1. how should i prepare? like during the 4 years and also in this 1 month before starting college?

  2. resources?

  3. how much cgpa/gpa do i roughly have to maintain for flying in-euro/aus for masters or a job?

  4. how are you guys managing multiple interests? do you get time apart from studying?

  5. based on my plan, what are your inputs?

  6. how is your life as a student studying mech. eng. or any other eng. major?

guys help please

choosing between these-

  1. S23 base 256gb open box but box isn't there and store is giving a 1 month warranty. Got from 91 --> 82 in 35-40 minutes... is that good or bad? Build, camera switching, screen everything is fine tho.
  2. S23+ 256gb 1 year used; no build, screen or camera problem. 1 month warranty. not sure bout the box tho.
  3. Pixel 8 base 128gb box-packed. Note that the photography camera doesn't impress me much as i do videography mostly so that's not a deciding factor.
  4. Oneplus nord 5 new packed.

prices-

s23 , s23+ , op nord 5: around 320$
pixel 8: around 300$

also phone being compact or not is not a problem. Just need enough battery to shoot and scroll for least 5-6hours.

HELP me choose!

Samsung s23 256gb open box(300$) vs Samsung s23U 256gb with box used for 1 year(320$) vs pixel 8 128gb un-opened (290$)

Just need the better one no matter the size. I film so would need the better video camera in all aspects, and decent photo capturing for social media (outfits and life). I don't do gaming and won't anytime later. So basically general everyday tasks, shooting content, ordering food and stuff etc. etc.

Pixel users if you have an idea bout s23 or have switched between galaxy and pixel, please give 2 cents.

Pick one from the below options AND give reason n' your POV

myquals - completed 12th PCM

1. Drop

2. Tier 3 mech./civil

3. Tier 4 mech./civil [or ICT/AI]

elaboration

  1. Would take a drop and aim >96%ile in Jan mains along with >80% in boards. Still will do mech./civil prolly. Also, parents support me. Dad agreed for a video camera if i get a good college; can finally pursue the film passion and hope to make it main-line.
  2. One of the top colleges of state. Stay might be a problem still college is good. 2.5L/annum fees. Would pursue foreign post grad/job as per the branch I select. Dad ain't convinced for the camera if I study there. Have to settle for mobile and grind to buy a camera by self $.
  3. Can get ANY branch here. Still skeptical about Tech related branches. College has good connections with companies so students get selected at good firms. We have good relations with the college Dean even before I was born. I can change my hostel room ANYTIME and everything from the admission to my placement [in a good company] is guaranteed n' taken care by my unc[dean in diff. depart.]. Same plan after college, PG/job abroad. No camera rn tho.

In any option, I've to grind for the initial 1 year regardless. & I am ready too. gotta IQmax and skillmax.

FEEL FREE TO ASK MISSING DETAILS

IS MECH WORTH IN AN ERA LIKE THIS?

I am a highschool graduate and probably will start college this year. I am eyeing mechanical engineering as i like Physics; Computer Science as it's rewarding RN (but declining); and circuital branches as it's a mid ground [tho not much interested but parents think interest can be developed]

We are seeing AI taking over almost at every field. What are your thoughts on the demand of mechanical engineers in near future [5-6 years]?? Is it worth pursuing and investing in it? What are the points to keep in mind?

Also are there any specific countries which will provide a convincing amount to mech. engineers? so that i can target that countries for post-grad school or job placement?

Anyone who can help me with this?

Any 2k24/2k25cels or IT profs. who were getting decent college and were considering taking drop?? doesn't matter what they pursued after that...

  1. Drop and aim 97tile+(practically), to join a decent NIT/IIIT or a good post NIT-tier college.
  2. Join a T3 mech.(i like mech.) and side-by-side pursue filmmaking(not backing off) to have multiple paths open for me. Grind will be strong and only focused on BTech and film.
  3. Join a T4 CSE with amazing campus(and almost khud ka college+minimal to 0 fees) and too, pursue filmmaking.

Is planning for post-grad a good option in this era where already more jobs are taken every year by AI and I'll just be delaying without much return as UG ngas are grabbing high CTC anyways.

Also taking drop would delay my film thing which isn't much preferred for me.

SERIOUS ADVICE NEEDED!! dilemma while choosing career paths

Seniors, what's the rough scenario of Btech in future? Is it worth going deep into btech and not pursuing any other interests?

My scene - After 2 years of JEE and exams, i have finally completed advanced and was just starting to explore vacation time; and told my dad to buy me a camera to make some films and stuff(for Yt and ig). I have waited for 2 years to buy a camera and start making videos. Now, dad thinks I should not start making videos as it will destroy my btech degree. He thinks i won't be able to balance and then will not get placement. He thinks everybody who "just studies" for 4 years crack big companies. He might be partially true but i am not willing to put all my eggs in one basket!! He is telling me to start all this video stuff after 4 years of btech.

I need a real life scenario and perspective from the ones who are pursuing btech or are doing an IT job or any engineering job.
