No More Free Commercial Skip - Becoming a Subscription Service!

We’re reaching out to let you know about an upcoming change to SkipMode^(™), the functionality on your TiVo DVR that lets you automatically skip commercial breaks on select recorded TV shows.

Beginning November 2, 2026, the current version of SkipMode, using the Skip Button on your TiVo remote, will no longer be available. You will still be able to skip commercials manually using the 30-second skip (→I) and Fast Forward (︎︎) buttons on your remote.

We are also excited to share that in November we will be testing a new Premium Auto Commercial Skip add-on service. You’ll have the opportunity to try the service for free for 30 days and decide if it is right for you. After the 30-day trial period, you will have the option to opt in and add it to your TiVo account for an additional monthly fee.

For now, no action is required. Before November 2, 2026, we will send additional details about the free trial, pricing, and how the new service works.

Thank you for being a TiVo customer.

Sincerely,

TiVo Customer Support

How do we restore normalcy at the White House?

I've been wondering -- if a Democrat wins the next Presidential election and there is a transfer of power, what would you want them to do about the inane/trashy/tacky choices made by Der Gropenfuhrer, like the ballroom, the gold leaf, the helipad, the cement "Rose Garden", etc.? The public policy nerd in me says that we shouldn't waste too many resources undoing things that don't affect the lives of anyone significantly. Maybe turn the disgusting ballroom into a soup kitchen for indigent people in DC. But the activist in me says tear it all the f*** down, any costs are the moral responsibility of the Tangerine Toddler (and those than enabled him) for so personalizing a space that belongs to us all.

What do you all think?

I guess I'm stuck here....

Luckily for me, we're right by a window, so I'm praying for a bird or squirrel to entice her up onto the back of the couch, because my knee is starting to ache!

"No change/cancellation fee" -- can we grab a lower price?

I've been tracking prices for a December trip, and they just hit a new low, with Frontier well below other airlines, even paying for baggage fees and seat selection. These tickets have no change/cancellation fee, so if the price goes down, I could probably book new tickets and then cancel the old ones, right? Has anyone done this with Frontier recently? Or can you even rebook the same tickets and get the lower fare, keeping the same seats? I'm debating buying now, but Google Flights says that, historically, the current price is only average.

Long delay when starting program

Anyone else experiencing 15-20 seconds of black screen when starting a new library show? I'm not getting that kind of delay on any other streaming service, so I don't think it's my internet connection or the TV itself. I also recently hard rebooted the TV due to an unrelated issue (the brief Netflix outage), and I've seen this issue before and after that reboot. I mostly use YTTV to watch MSNOW, I'll have to try other recordings, but is anyone else seeing this on any recorded programs?

The movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day paid BMW to take over the display of every BMW made after 2020. When you start the car, it shows you an ad for the movie.

Was anyone else disappointed in Sen. Durbin's questioning of DAG Blanche?

I was really disappointed in how Dick Durbin used his 10 minutes today. He tried to press Blanche on meeting with the Epstein survivors, but he didn't really press that hard.

For example, I've heard other members of Congress say "I'll take that as a no" when someone before them dances around the question. He also didn't question many of Blanche's assertions, like that he can't meet with anyone represented by counsel (really? The AG never meets with anyone who has hired a lawyer??). Or his assertion that the bogus "settlement" he signed only gives the Trumps immunity from audits that had already been in process at the time of the signing, as the agreement didn't specify in the past, and it sounds like it gives them immunity going forward.

Do better, Senator!

Recurring transfer restriction? (feature request/improvement)

Why is it that I can't set up a recurring CASH transfer between Fidelity accounts for a week from now, the soonest it will let me is 11 days in the future? This is between a savings account and a checking account, not from our brokerage. And I also can't make a one-time transfer scheduled in the future, why is that?

And while I'm at it, why no bi-monthly transfers? I want to make retirement "payments" to our spending account on the same schedule that paychecks came in, but I had to set up two recurring monthly transfers for the same amount, fifteen days apart.

Good comic book shops in the area (for seller)?

I'm trying to downsize, so I'm getting rid of things I don't need, haven't looked at in ages, and will be a burden if I pass them down when I die. One that hits all those notes are my comic books from the 70s and 80s. Nothing worth much, and while I don't want to get ripped off, I am more concerned with seeing the worthless comic books I have sold for cheap to someone who will still enjoy them. So shops that are great for n00bs and kids are a plus, I guess. I only have one that might be worth grading, so I'd like the shop's advice on that.

Trump v Slaughter cuts both ways....

WHEN the next Democratic president is elected, we need to remember that they're free to dismiss every and all Trump toadies, conspiracy theorists, election deniers, and other right-wing kooks just because their "continued service....[is] inconsistent with [the] Administration's priorities". If they are going to overturn Humphrey's Executor, a 90-year old precedent, and ignore existing law that says commissioners can only be removed for “inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office", they will have to reap what they sow.

Assuming our republic survives the next two years, of course.

Jet flyover/air show?Jet flyover/air show?

I was in Wheaton at 10:37am this morning when I saw what looked like 6 jets in a triangle formation. It's hard to make out in the dashcam video, but trust me, they looked like fighter jets, and they left a trail that you can kind of see.

Anyone know what it was?

Where to find complete primary election results?

tl;dr, does anyone know where I can find the complete primary election results? All I can find is total votes cast.

I am actually curious to see how many people actually voted for Kean, Jr., especially compared to other unopposed candidates, and compared to total votes for Democratic candidates for NJ-7.

Any scotch drinkers here? ABS has a few good sales this month.

  • Lagavulin 16 - $74.99 (normally $104.99)
  • Oban 14 - $64.99 (normally $84.99)
  • Johnnie Walker Blue Label - $179.99 (normally $241.99)

Yes, I know Blue Label is overpriced and overrated, but it's moderately less so now, so if you were wanting to impress someone with a gift of scotch, you can't go wrong with this one. Personally, I think JW Green Label is as good or better, and it's $63.99.

If anyone's interested, ABS offers their whole product database as an XLS export, so I pull all the spirits into Google Sheets once a month, but I take out anything under 350ml and anything that comes in a #-pack instead of one bottle, as I don't buy the former and I don't feel like spending the extra time to clean up the data on the latter. If you want to make a copy or just search/sort/filter, feel free: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qSSsTJgheiNhskmzT-11jgXpHR_nOm-3cjunqnYHYSE/edit?usp=sharing

I compare costs with the Laurel Total Wine & More, and sometimes Astor Wine in NYC, since I am there at least once a year, and they have had scotches that I couldn't find elsewhere, and their prices are usually a little better than ours.

Lounge pass: guest who isn't ticketed?

OK, look, I know it's technically against the T&C, but I'm asking anyway. Have you had your ticket checked when you use a lounge pass at the Metropolitan Lounge in NYC, or did they just scan your lounge pass?

They moved my train two hours later, so I'm going to be at the lounge a lot longer than expected, and I was thinking about having a friend join me so we could sit and talk for a while. I'm ticketed, he wouldn't be, so if they asked for tickets for both of us he would have to turn around and go home, which would be disappointing for me and annoying for him. I'm wondering if it's worth trying at all.
