keflex 1-week past abdo surgery

I went into emergency on Friday with lower left sided abdo pain. I’ve had constant low-grade fevers for a week, alongside diarrhea and nausea/vomiting.

The ER provider thought I had a uti from the Foley catheter used in my surgery mixed with sleeping too long during recovery (aka not peeing enough). He prescribed Keflex 400mg mg once a day for 10 days. I do not have a GP who could have prescribed this and I went to emerg as urgent care ordered a stat CT to rule out a surgical complication.

I’m on day 3 of the medication and I feel like shit. I’m not keeping food down, have diarrhea, terrible body aches and pains, my lymph noids are swollen, I go between sweating and chills, vertigo, jusy feeling disoriented and abdominal pain. I’m taking Tylenol 1 Q6hr, gravol 100mg Q4h, Robaxin q6h, and Celecoxib 100mg BID.

I heard Keflex has pretty strong side effects, but it’s used as a first line for infection when it’s uncomplicated.

I’m wondering if I’m having a reaction to the antibiotic. I could potentially get into urgent care tomorrow but I’d most likely go to ER tonight due to the lack of fluid and food intake I’ve been having. But before I do I want to see if I’m over reacting or if anyone has any recommendations/history with Keflex.

Dressy Dinner Help?

I’ll be going on my first cruise to Alaska in September 2026. As per my tickets, one night will be a “cocktail semi-formal” dinner. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to wear?

I’m a 26 female who lives in healthcare/work clothes.
Website and brand suggestions are greatly appreciated. Pictures are also appreciated.

Thank you!

Source of a chronic pain Confifmed

I (26f) had my laproscopic keyhole surgery today at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. My surgeons were from the BC Women’s Hospital and Clinic, specifically from the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic. They confirmed Stage 3 Endometriosis and a potential variant.

My original Gyne said that before that there was “no chance in hell” I had this.

I’ve been crying from treats of happiness. All those doctors, nurses, and other clinicians who dismissed my pain and accused me of drug seeking were wrong. I now that physical documentation that I can take during a pain flare up. Furthermore, the women’s clinic has agreed to act as a provider for opiod medications if needed.

I’m so so so happy 😭😭😭🤗

Boyfriend sent me a photo of his new “tattoo”

Apparently they’re War Hammer symbols.
Done with black ink and a needle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. He started antibiotics the day after the redness started.

Surgery tomorrow

Hello all!

I’m getting abdominal surgery tomorrow and I’m very anxious. It’s for endometriosis but I have a bleeding disorder. I’m very anxious and scared to go under general anaesthesia. I’m also going to be alone since my boyfriend is currently deployed overseas.

All thoughts and prayers greatly appreciated ❤️🙏

Thank you!

Urgent Care?

I’ve been trying for over two weeks to get into urgent care with no success. I keep going to the ER for pain management (at least 10 times this month) pre surgery (surgery is in one week) but get told ER isnt appropriate place for pain management (which is true) and sent back to community. I do not have a GP and my specialist is in Vancouver and cannot see me before surgery.

I get pain management isnt considered urgent but without a GP and pending surgery the wait is brutal. ERs have been nice but I feel like I’m wasting resources.

Help greatly appreciated

ETA: I agree that 10x in one month is ridiculous. Unfortunately I didn’t know what else to do because pain impacting my ability to eat, drink, sleep can lead to a lot of issues. Plus the risks of it being something serious was also high. This is a failure of the healthcare system not our healthcare workers. With appropriate continuity of care, GPs, specialists then I wouldn’t have had this problem.

ETA2: I also agree long term opioid use is bad but short term has its benefits. And yes chronic pain should be approached from multiple areas and opiods should be last resort or in pain flares. Also at this point I’d gladly accept any pain relief including a little propofol nap if it was offered- I’m not seeking out opiods I’m seeking pain relief. I wish I had better continuity of care and did not need the ER.

ETA3: The healthcare workers have always been great. It’s the system that sucks and the lack of support they have from the Federal and provincial government.

Idk what to do anymore

Since June 2026, I’ve been ending up in a chronic pain flare at least 1x-2x per week that’s put me in the ER. I have a hysterectomy on the 27th of July and am already taking max doses of NSAIDs, Tylenol, and muscle relaxers. I’m diagnosed pelvic inflammatory disorder, pcos, and endometriosis.

My issue is that sometimes I go in and I get pain meds and discharged with oral pain meds and told to come back in if they aren’t managing my pain. Other times I go in and I get treated like a drug seeker and told ever though I’m in pain they’re not gonna do anything.

I have a week until surgery and I don’t know what to do. I’m in pain, vomitting up my oral meds because of the pain, and just feel like shit. I was in the er on Wednesday where the Dr gave me oral meds and told me to come back if they weren’t sustaining my pain level.

I just don’t know what to do anymore. I’m not sleeping, I’ve lost 10lbs and I don’t have a GP. There’s no urgent cares in my area and my specialist is 4 hours away. I feel defeated but I can’t admit that or else I won’t get treated

Recognizes Nurses During Strike

I’m getting urgent gynaecology surgery on July 27th at UBCH in Vancouver BC. Due to the BC nursing strike, I want to make sure I thank my nurses for helping me in my surgery and my overnight stay. I know they’re only doing nursing tasks at the moment and I want to ensure I thank them for continuing to help me even during their rotating strike.

Would hand written be sufficient? Should I call ahead and ask the CNL about arranging a fruit tray/meat and cheese tray or coffee the next day?

Thank you!

First Surgery Coming up

Hello!

I’m getting laparoscopic endometriosis excision surgery plus an appendectomy and ovary suspension on July 27th. As this is my first surgery, I was hoping people had recommendations for items to improve my recovery, stories about how it went for them, and words of encouragement since I’m scared shitless about going under GA. I don’t want to die during surgery and my anxiety disorder is hyperfixating on the idea that I won’t wake up. As my boyfriend is deployed I don’t have any support systems for my surgery; it’s just going to be myself.

Thank you!

Surgery CPTSD

I’ve had a lot of medical trauma leading up to this surgery, including having lack of access to pain medication during exploratory ultrasounds, pelvic exams, and other testing (endoscopy and colonoscopy). I’m terrified that I’m going to wake up under GA, be over medication and never wake up under GA, and jusy have a slurry of complications. I’m getting Midazolam upon arrival to the hospital but jusy the idea of the surgery makes me vomit out of fear.

Best Place to Buy Hot Sauce in Victoria?

Looking for either locally made, BC Specific or Canadian hot sauce that I can purchase this week (June 9th-15th) in or around Victoria, BC. It’s going to be sent in a gift basket going overseas. Max size has to be 375ml per sauce bottle.

Looking for medium to very spicy hot sauce. No price point but has to be available this week. The person I’m buying this for loves spicy foods but it has to have flavour and not be too overpowered by “hotness”.

Thank you in advance!

Advice Needed for Temporary Longer-Distance in Permanent Relationship with Military Partner (31m) for me (26f); can you help me?

My boyfriend got deployed in 2026 for under a year..This is our first deployment together and his 7th deployment.

He will have service and wifi occasionally throughout his deployment due to multiple factors including mode of transportation , but I’m currently concerned about keeping our relationship together since we are so new. We’ve only said “I love you” once or twice, and he didn’t want to say it before he left because he doesn’t want to “jinx it”. He’s voiced concern that I’m going to realize that I need a “better man” and leave him during deployment. His only other serious partner before me ended up cheating on him on a deployment and leaving him. As a result of that break up, he was celibate and single until he met me.

We’ve swapped sweaters so we can both “cuddle” with each other over the deployment and I’m keeping him in the loop with my daily Snapchats of my life. I’m also going to send morale mail to him that aligns with his base/port/reserve/country visits. He’s also talking about his plans for gifts for me and has been asking more questions about gifts.

We’ve both been making plans for things we are gonna do once he returns and meeting new people together. But I’m trying not to spiral on missing him and being concerned he’s going to leave me. When we talk I try to be positive and leave my concerns for my therapist. Though if he asks about my anxiety, I’m always open as that’s the communication we’ve agreed upon for this deployment. We both struggle with Trauma, anxiety, and CPTSD.

Has anyone else experienced this and have recommendations? I have no military partner friends and can really use someone to chat with about this besides my therapist and ChatGPT.

As “loose lips kill people”, I will not be providing any further information publicly on his deployment.

Thank you!

First Time Deployment and along-Distance

I (26f) was hoping to get some advice, recommendations from fellow military partners.
My boyfriend (31m) of under a year got deployed in 2026 for under a year. This is our first deployment together and his 7th deployment in his service.

He will have cell service and wifi occasionally throughout his deployment, but I’m currently concerned about keeping our relationship together since we are so new. We’ve only said “I love you” once or twice, and he didn’t want to say it before he left because he doesn’t want to “jinx it”. He’s voiced concern that I’m going to realize that I need a “better man” and leave him during deployment. I told him that he’s one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met and that I’ve fallen head over heels for him. I’ve also reassured him that the only other person I felt this way for was my ex-spouse who i married until he passed. His only other serious partner before me ended up cheating on him on a deployment and leaving him. As a result of that break up, he was celibate and single until he met me). I’ve been reassuring him but also not too much as I don’t want him focusing on that. I’ve also been studying up on the seamanship manual and his ship to ask him questions about drills, rasing, and boardings to show that I truly care about his passion/career.

We’ve swapped sweaters so we can both “cuddle” with each other over the deployment and I’m keeping him in the loop with my daily Snapchats of my life. I’m also going to send morale mail to his ship that aligns with his port visits. He’s also talking about his plans for gifts for me from each port and has been asking more questions about gifts. He didn’t want to give me the keys to his apartment because of his fear. However we did talk about moving in together when he gets back/.

We’ve both been making plans for things we are gonna do once he returns and meeting new people together. This includes going to his dad’s celebration of life anniversary in a different city 16-hours away.

I also miss him a lot. I miss his hugs, his aura, and just our conversations. I also miss just calling him after a rough shift and hearing his words of affirmation and support.

Has anyone else experienced this and have recommendations? I have no military partner friends and can really use someone to chat with about this besides my therapist and ChatGPT.

As “loose lips sink ships”, I will not be providing any further information publicly on his deployment, role in the military, port visits, and schedule. If we chat over message, I’ll be able to share a bit more but still very limited for national security.

Thank you!
