Do some shops not install darker than 70% tint on windshield?

I'm in Virginia. Just finished taking my Tesla to a reputable shop (same place I got my partial PPF done). I clearly stated I wanted 50% Xpel Black in our text messages and nothing was said. Then I get it back and it's only 70%. The guy gave me the whole explanation about how medical papers could be needed for inspection at 70%, but 50% even with medical papers won't pass technically. Fine, understood. But why didn't they give me 50% like I asked?

Should I try to get them to give me a partial refund at least?

Edit: I will expose the shop name if I'm unable to get in contact or resolve this properly by tomorrow afternoon.

Gummies: 1. Kefir: 0. (And by 0, I mean diarrhea)

I can't seem to get past 2 spoonfuls of kefir without having diarrhea later. But I recently purchased the Digestive Advantage gummies from Amazon and after nearly a week I've had no bad side effects from them. What gives? Also this is not my first time trying kefir. I tried it about a month ago as well and had to stop after a few days because the diarrhea was still present after a single spoonful.

Fwiw: I had a breath test a few weeks ago for H. Pylori (since I'm back in the states from being in Mexico for most of the year and had a few food poisoning incidents in November/January) and it was negative.

Hopefully there are plans to increase the 3.3% APY?

Now that rates are up... (Truist offering 4% now). I recognize Truist is probably a bad example because they are a bank that is in financial trouble. Hell, they are charging $3 for external transfers unlike any other bank. So they are for sure struggling and need any edge they can get, but I digress...

3.3% seems less competitive these days. Wonder how often this rate gets re-evaluated.

Does the router firmware get limited upgrades after a certain amount of time?

I remember hearing that Asus routers in general would not get that latest firmware updates and buying a newer router was the only way to unlock some firmware features. Is this still true? Same for Netgear?

No mention of Habits protein probiotic powder?

Just surprised no one has talked about it on Reddit before here. Anyone tried it? I've only seen it in Mexico and I have no idea if it's actually effective (in both it's post-gym muscle mass building and gut health). No idea if I can get it in the U.S. either but of course Amazon has it.

Anyone?

Has anyone kept their KDP free ISBN edition and used a separate ISBN for Barnes & Noble?

I already have a paperback published through Amazon KDP using KDP’s free ISBN, and I want to keep that edition exactly as-is. It is selling decently well and still maintaining top 50 (occasionally bouncing into top 20) new releases within its category even 1-2 months later.

I’m considering buying my own ISBN and using it only for a separate Barnes & Noble Press edition of the same book.

Has anyone done this successfully?

I’m not looking to republish the book on KDP with the new ISBN. Just keep the current KDP edition and add a separate B&N edition.

At what size do 0DTE SPY $1-wide vertical spreads start losing fill quality?

I run an algo that runs mostly 0DTE SPY $1-wide vertical credit spreads. As a single multi-leg limit order, what is the largest number of spreads you can generally enter and exit near the quoted net price without material slippage or slow/partial fills?

To be clear, I mean spread quantity (e.g., 250 spreads = 250 contracts per leg), primarily during the morning/early afternoon. Calls or puts.

For reference, I use Alpaca.

Anyone else experienced lag with Roku Streaming Plus stick on Flint 2?

Hulu TV to be specific.

Deep into troubleshooting this... have tried v4.9, v4.8.3, and v4.8.4 firmware. I've tried hardware acceleration ON and OFF. I've tried enabling IGMP snooping, even though Roku stick sends unicast traffic, not multicast. I've tried ISP DNS vs. Cloudflare/Google DNS. Have tried switching between the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks and initially switching to 2.4 GHz seemed to fix it, but then later the lag came back. Switching to the ISP router (GigaSpire 4220E) and the Roku stick immediately no longer has any lag on either of the TVs. I notice the ISP router has the TV on Channel 149 at the moment.

The Flint 2 does get slightly faster speeds due to having better coverage which was the original reason why I wanted to swap out the ISP router from the ONT, but with other family members wanting a seamless Hulu TV experience, this is not acceptable until I can figure out what's going on here... Zero issues on all other devices.

Edit: Just remembered I did enable AdGuard Home this morning. But it's still interesting that 2.4 GHz worked while 5 GHz did not work last night (AdGuard Home had not been enabled at this time).

Edit 2: Turned off AdGuard Home and all is well again... (also taught mom how to change channels properly with up/down arrow LOL). Wonder if it was the IGMP snooping enabled that fixed it... even though it's supposed to be unicast (with multicast discovery).

Suddenly no internet from home Wi-Fi to Tesla

Using a GL.iNet Flint 2 (v4.8.4 firmware, tried different firmwares already). Was working then suddenly stopped.

Here's my troubleshooting:

  • Tesla Model 3 LR (2022) connects to home Wi-Fi but gives the "no internet" error message
  • Router shows DHCP assigned IP address to Tesla, but no traffic
  • Connects to iPhone hotspot fine.
  • Tried forgetting network
  • Tried 2.4 and 5 GHz networks
  • Network is WPA2
  • Tried rebooting router
  • Tried soft reset on Tesla multiple times
  • Tried changing Wi-Fi password
  • Location is rural. Car is 4 feet away from router in garage
  • No special DNS (ISP DNS), no special firewall, no BSSID randomization
  • IPv6 disabled on router
  • Tried VPN in case of new ISP blockage of Tesla servers

At this point I've just submitted a service request to Tesla because I'm out of ideas. What could possibly be happening between the GL.iNet Flint 2 and the Tesla?

RESOLVED: Switched off of ISP DNS to Cloudflare/Google. Boom fixed… lol it’s always DNS. ISP.

How long to wait before British Airways account can transfer Avios to Iberia? 30 days? 90 days?

Seeing mixed answers on this. I want to move 101k Capital One miles to Iberia via British Airways account so I can book 2x business class tickets on Iberia for A350-900 route out of Madrid in February. Thanks.

Solved: Just logged into Avios.com with my BA account and it says "30 days" before I can transfer

Lufthansa 747-800 or Air France A350 business class?

Edit: solved… https://www.reddit.com/r/awardtravel/s/efLZEz8boK

So let me preface a few things…

First, this is a trip with my SO (Madeira). MEX - FRA or MEX-CDG. She has never been outside the country so needless to say never flown internationally long haul or business class. So regardless this’ll be a nice treat for her.

Second, I have flown business class long haul only twice before: on Lufthansa A340-300 business class and British Airways A380. I want to say arguably two of the worst in terms of seat quality but I did enjoy Lufthansa wine selection and food a lot. I have been on a 747 before but never business class section.

The choices on the table are:

80k United miles + $125 (x2) for 747-800 top deck Lufthansa

Or

60k Flying Blue miles (Capital One -> BA -> AF) + $422 (x2) for any seat A350-900 Air France

Both are red eyes so we’ll be ready to sleep however I would like to eat dinner that’s served first.

I WISH this was the new Allegris for the Lufthansa 747-800 but the MEX routes do not have the upgrade. Sucks.

IAH KLM and Air France lounge times are wrong

KLM supposed to close at 12:00 but they closed at 11:00. And Air France says no access 11:00-17:00 yet they’re really opening for PP at 11:00…

Would you choose Venice + Prosecco Hills or Venice + Lake Garda in January?

My gf and I (late 20s) live in Mexico City and are planning our first trip to Italy for Jan 20-31 (her first international trip), flying into and out of Venice.

We’ll have about 10 days (12 minus 2 for travel basically).

A little about us:

  • We have zero interest in skiing and have never skied.
  • We enjoy scenic drives, photography, cafés, wine, great food, nice hotels, spas, and relaxing. * We’d rather stay in fewer places than constantly move around.
  • I’ve previously visited Zermatt and Wengen (in the summers), so that’s one reason why we’re going with Italy and not Switzerland this time.
  • She has never seen snow so it might be a good opportunity to be her first for that… we originally were thinking Norway but it’ll be dark for too long in January there.

Originally I was thinking just a few days in Venice then to the mountains/Dolomites. But when I researched, it seemed the Dolomites in January for someone who doesn’t ski would be a bit pointless. Hiking/walking we love but those trails will be way too snowy.

That left me with two places outside of Venice that caught my attention for a scenic, relaxing place with some walkability still.

Lake Garda and Prosecco Hills.

My gf isn’t a wine drinker but I am absolutely. As long as there’s a cute cafe with croissants and a view we should be good.

Any strong suggestions one way or another on these options? Or both?

Why this article on Wi-Fi transmit power is misleading

As someone with an RF engineering background, I felt compelled to post this and explain the flaws in the author's reasoning... :)

The author claims that lowering his router’s transmit power improved Wi-Fi because it reduced interference from neighboring networks and allowed the router to "hear" client devices better.

Unfortunately, that is not at all how RF (radio frequency) works.

If you have a single router/AP, lowering its transmit power does not reduce the RF energy being transmitted by your neighbors. Their routers/APs continue transmitting at exactly the same power, and your receiver sees essentially the same external interference. Likewise, reducing your transmit power does not suddenly make your receiver more sensitive.

In fact, from a simple link-budget perspective, reducing your AP from, say, 27 dBm to 20 dBm reduces your client’s received signal by about 7 dB. Unless something else changes, your downlink SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) gets worse, not better. SNR is what we care about afterall.

So why might he have observed an improvement?

The most likely explanations I can think of are:

  • His router restarted and selected a cleaner channel.
  • The client re-associated or switched bands (i.e., 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz or vice versa).
  • He actually has multiple APs/mesh nodes, and reducing power improved roaming by shrinking the coverage cell.

So yeah, lowering your transmit power does not magically reduce incoming interference.

Where it makes sense (multi-AP and enterprise deployments)

In these environments, the objective is to create several smaller coverage cells. If every AP transmits at max power, their coverage areas will overlap and client devices may stay connected to a distant AP even when a closer one is available (read as: worse SNR = slower speeds). APs on the same channel may also hear one another over a much larger area and spend more time waiting for the channel to become available (read as: less airtime = slower speeds).

Thus the idea of spatial reuse becomes important and is the reason you want lower TX powers... for APs to use the same frequency channel in different areas without strongly interfering with each other. If your APs are using non-overlapping frequency channels, then it's not as big of an issue.

New GL.iNet Community IRC Channel on Libera.Chat

For anyone who prefers old-school chat, or for the younger members wondering what the heck "IRC" is... we now have a community GL.iNet IRC channel on Libera.Chat:

Channel: #gl.inet

The channel is intended as another place for GL.iNet users to discuss routers, firmware, networking, troubleshooting, modifications, and related projects. We are just getting it started, so please join, talk, test things, and help us find any bugs with the setup.

The channel is community-run and currently moderated by myself (Macuser) and u/GrandWizardZippy (Zippyy), both GL.iNet employees. However, it is not an official GL.iNet support channel, and participation there should not be treated as a substitute for opening a support ticket.

Easiest option: use the webchat

You do not need to install anything or create an account.

  1. Open the Libera.Chat webchat.
  2. Choose a nick (nickname).
  3. Make sure the channel is set to #gl.inet.
  4. Click Start or Connect.

That is it—you are now using technology that predates Discord, Slack, and probably a decent percentage of this subreddit’s members.

Connect with an IRC client

You can also use any IRC client of your choice, including HexChat, WeeChat, Irssi, mIRC, Textual (my favorite on macOS), or another client.

Use these connection details:

After connecting, enter:

/join #gl.inet

Libera.Chat also has a list of recommended IRC clients and an official connection guide for anyone who needs more detailed setup instructions.

Discord bridge (thanks to Zippyy)

The IRC channel is also connected to the GL.iNet community on Discord through a bridge bot. Messages sent in the IRC channel can appear in the corresponding Discord channel, and Discord messages can be relayed back to IRC.

Join the Discord: https://link.gl-inet.com/socialmedia-Discord

This means IRC users and Discord users can participate in the same conversation without abandoning their preferred platform.

The bridge is still being tested and additional bot functions and GL.iNet model information are being added. More active conversation will help us identify formatting problems, connection issues, and other bugs.

Come say hello, or ask your nerdy parent what IRC is first:

Join #gl.inet on Libera.Chat:
https://web.libera.chat/#gl.inet

For official assistance, please contact GL.iNet through support@gl-inet.com, the website Contact Us form, or the support form embedded in the router firmware.

What are the costs and reporting requirements for using/reselling the commercial market data?

Lots of GEX dashboard vendors out there, I am aware. I'm just curious what are the costs associated with creating a company on the Schwab Developer API portal and using the commercial market data access to resell to users. Reporting requirements per paying user? To whom? Estimated monthly costs? Assume just index 0DTE OI (NDX, SPX, etc.).

Paused my Amazon ads already

Launched my first self-published trading book recently and decided to pause Amazon ads after spending about $14.24 with 674 impressions and 0 attributed sales.

Interesting points are:

  • it was #1 New Release in its Amazon category for about a week (before I even enabled ads)
  • it was also moving in and out of the top 20 Best Sellers in that category (#15 at best)
  • total sales (unrelated to ads): 7 ebook, 3 print

So the book is selling, just apparently not from the ads.

It's a niche non-fiction options trading book, and even after tightening keywords toward more specific 0DTE / options-related terms, the campaign still didn’t produce any attributed sales. I bid on the low end of the suggested bid price range for all my keywords.

Have you had a similar experience?

Anyone else find 2023-2024 to be mostly overnight moves compared to 2025-2026?

My algo backtesting destroys 2025-2026 but 2023-2024 I found is mostly filled with overnight moves/gaps during those years, so my intraday 0DTE selling strategy falls behind simple buy & hold SPY.

Do I just accept this fact? Now I wonder how much longer before we go back into an overnight dominating "regime", or will we?

Thoughts?
