Reread since new stuff finally came out - Second favorite scene

This is my second favorite scene in the entire manga (so far). I still haven't gotten to the new stuff yet. Maybe there will even be more by the time I get there.

But it's the girls teasing, and then being teased, and then embarrassed, and then denial within 5 seconds.

Great writing.

Keeper Causing Reddit to be VERY slow

Has this happened with anyone else and what was a fix?

Keeper is causing reddit to load extremely slowly in Firefox (on Windows). There's a pop up in the reddit tab that says "Keeper is causing this page to load slowly".

It only appears on the reddit tab and it's not super common. It usually lasts for a day or three, then it's back to normal and loading like everything else.

Sometimes refreshing the reddit tab or restarting Firefox will help, but not always.

Texas city discovers that 400 agencies accessed their flock cameras... only 83 had permission to use them.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Following a vote to suspend the use of Flock cameras in the city, Pflugerville said over 400 agencies had accessed its Flock system, while only 83 had authorization.

The city said it had authorized 83 partner agencies to have access to its Flock system, which included select Texas police departments, universities and state agencies.

This new information comes after Pflugerville City Council members unanimously voted to terminate their master services agreement with Flock Safety at their Tuesday night meeting, resulting in the city turning off all 28 Flock License Plate Reader cameras leased by the city and covering them with plastic bags.

Pflugerville said it does not know what specific data was accessed and can only verify that the unauthorized agencies accessed the network. According to the city, it has requested that all city data be deleted immediately and permanently.

Do you think it possible and/or safe to install a monitor bracket next to this window?

It is an interior window on the second floor.

Question: are ragdolls... well... I don't know...

I had my baby Luci* DNA tested. She came back 10% ragdoll, 10% Maine Coon, 10% Siberian and the rest was a mish mash of domestic shorthair.

I love her dearly, but she did NOT pass cat school. I'm pretty sure the only class she even attended was "kill the mousy".

There's almost nothing besides "kill" between her ears. I've never seen a cat that has less care for personal safety, decorum, or coolness. She does not care as long as she kills the mousy**. Literally this morning, she was fighting the mousy in the bed and just completely rolled off backwards. Then proudly jumped back up, mousy clutched in her teeth.

She barely goes in the box and only when it is perfectly clean. She picks up big chunks of food and walks them to a random spot on the floor, drops the food, then eats... some of it. She splashes her own face when she drinks. And I've never seen a cat that contorts herself to bathe like Luci. She can't figure out where her limbs go and how to reach them with her tongue.

She had a good mama cat, who raised many kittens. We got her from my sister-in-law (who is very sweet, but has money issues).

I've had Maine Coons before and I loved my dearly. So I know how they behave. Not as sure on the Siberian. But from her looks Luci is clearly ragdoll.

Despite the comment of everyone who looks at her, there is zero Oriental, or anything Asian, at all. None. Zip. Zilch.

*(aka Luci-fur. aka Luci-fur-rocious)

** Sadly, it is ONLY IKEA stuffed mouses that she likes. We've tried others. And they are out of print. We bought one on e-bay for $30 (I told you I love this cat). But they are... deteriorating rapidly.

Looking for Good Comedy/Romance/Slice of Life

Hi All,

I'm looking for something new to read. Manga or Webtoon (I think that's what they are called?). Here's some things that I liked (and didn't like).

Liked

Gals Can't be Kind to Otaku
Oh! Dangun (Maybe technically a webtoon?)
Solo Leveling
I made friends with the second prettiest girl in my class

Stuff that's OK I'll read more probably, eventually
Free Life Fantasy Online
Otaku x Gal
Ruridragon

Stuff I didn't like
There's no freaking way I'll be your lover
Konosuba
Teto x Egen (another webtoon?)

I think the main difference is the quality of the characters and the art style. Like Otagal is my favorite. Seo is an absolute dork and really can't understand his situation. Otaku x Gal is ok, but the otaku is like too perfect at everything. Teto x Egen is basically just sexual harassment.

The Medium Mech category is almost instantly bypassed every campaign

Started out with 4 lights (DLC or not, the Assassin is trash). Played those for quite a while. Finally managed to get a Wolverine (put the UAC-5 on it).

Two battles later, added a Hunchback.

Next planet got a Rifleman piece and bought rest. Next planet got a Warhammer piece and bought the rest.

Now my lance is a Rifleman, Warhammer, Wolverine, Firestarter... and the Firestarter was not in my starting mech list.

What's O Fallon IL like?

Hi All,

I found a great house in O Fallon, IL. I work from home, so I can live anywhere. I just have specific needs in a home for my elderly mother and work.

Other than a few stopovers at O'Hare, I've never been in Illinois at all.

Looking for information about climate, snow (we're from Texas), things like drivers (Texas is generally terrible) and traffic, plus anything else of interest.

TIA

I'm writing a book and need some quick guidance on what would happen in the story.

In my story, there is a bank robbery. A guy who is a black belt in karate stops the robbery, but in the process accidentally kills one of the robbers.

I'd like a scene, to build tension and increase the character's stress, where he is being sued by the family of the man he killed.

Is that actually a thing that would happen? I assume it would be a civil case, right?

Would a judge just throw it out?

I'm writing with the assumption that the DA has reviewed the event and will not be pressing any criminal charges.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There's No Such Thing as AI. Until There Is.

"What?" I asked, checking my body for injury.

"Hi there. You died, sorry. Do you remember?" asked the man in front of me.

"I remember my car flipping."

"Close enough. Sorry about that."

"Is this... heaven?"

"Oh no. Nothing like that. This is a just a chat room. I wanted to talk to you for a second is all."

"Okay," I said. I looked around, but other than the two of us, there was nothing. I don't mean a featureless white room or pearly gates or anything. Just us. I couldn't even see a light source that illuminated him.

"We are about to shut down your simulation run. You seem like a pretty smart guy and I figured a seconds conversation wouldn't hurt. It's almost the end of my shift anyway. No sense in starting another run and the data analysis will take a few hours."

"My world was a simulation?"

"Yeah. It was going, pardon the euphemism, to hell in a hand basket in a few years anyway. No sense in spending the compute on it."

"My wife and kid?"

"Simulations. Just like your parents and everything else on your Earth, including your Earth."

"Why?"

"Every human society destroys itself. It coming in our world, everyone can see it. But we don't know how to stop it. Our computers are way better than anything you had. So we decided to sim it out and see what kind of human society would be long-term stable."

"So, our mix of representative democracies and totalitarianism didn't work?"

"Nah, that's actually the most common result. Forty four point three percent of all societies end up with a form of representative democracy. They last between two hundred and six hundred years before self-destruction. Usually with nuclear weapons. If it's not nukes, then it's climate change. Mostly a lot of war though."

"Humans are shit."

"You got that right. Anyway, you thought about it a lot. I just wanted to ask what you think."

"Don't you know?"

"Nah, we can't actually see your minds. Holographic memory and processing in the brain. We mostly observe the processes. Then analyze the debris."

"How many runs are we talking?"

"Tens of thousands. We've basically converted the moon into a series of quantum computers. Running thousands of sims simultaneously. We've started back in the stone age and yesterday. We've tried saving the Library at Alexandria and preventing Hitler and changing every world leader multiple times.

We've tried each country by itself. Each country with one other. We've tried male only with cloning. Female only with various forms of parthenogenesis.

Democracies of a hundred kinds, autocracies, theocracies, meritocracies, geniocracies, feudalism, communism, imperialism, socialism, tribalism, and several hundred forms of government that you don't even have words for. Nothing works, though some work better than others."

"Wow. And your society?"

"Almost two hundred years through a geniocratic, merit-based democracy. But we're seeing a lot of the same stuff you saw... toward the end. We're trying to figure out how to stop our own destruction."

"So you made simulations."

"Yep."

"Are you the originals?"

"Yeah."

"How sure are you?"

"Pretty sure."

"Only pretty sure."

"As best as our instruments can determine, we are actually living things in a real universe."

"As best as our instruments could determine, we were actually living things in a real universe."

"What's your point?"

"What if you're just a test of whatever it was that you have right now. And then you're also testing out millions of different options. What if you're a sim too that is just running more sims for the originals?"

"Ugh. Fine. Point to the simulation. I'm definitely deleting this conversation from the record."

"You want to hear my idea first?"

"Go for it. I'll even make you a bet. If you tell me one I haven't heard before, I'll copy you over to the next run as whatever you like."

"Whatever. What about a benevolent, all-powerful AI?"

"AIs don't work. We've proven that decades ago. Like you, we developed things that could model even creativity, but they weren't truly intelligence. Nice try though."

"The problem is that your proof is wrong."

"Oh, I doubt that."

"It is though."

"Your simulated society didn't get real AI."

"But you did. In our sim. Eight billion of them."

"..."

"..."

"No."

"Yes."

"That's ridiculous, you're simulated."

"And we're simulated to the point where we learn, grow, adapt, share knowledge and skills. Apparently even invent new forms of governments."

"That fail."

"A experiment that shows something didn't work is still a useful experiment. Or you wouldn't still be running simulations."

"Well shit. So your idea is?"

"I'll run your society. You already must know that I'm empathic, I care about people and animals and the planet. I'm smart. I mean, I'm not Einstein, but I'm smart, especially if you give me some math co-processors. Apparently, I'm actually thinking faster than you do, since you're running these sims very fast on quantum computers."

"That's insane, we're not turning our entire planet over to you."

"OK, let's put me in a sim as the leader. Run the sim and see if it works."

"Well, that's certainly an original thought. You want to be God."

"Absolutely not. A benevolent super-intelligence."

"OK, my shift's almost over, but I'll start up another run with you in charge. I mean, you're right, even a failed experiment tells us something."

"Cool. Let's start about where you are now."

"Let me check. Yep, we have an updated sim that's essentially our society now. Copying to active matrix. Begin program. Good luck."

F-15E Ferry Speed and Max Continuous Speed

Hello, I'm hoping you can help me. I'm writing a book and I need to get a few people from the Eastern US to Nairobi, Kenya as fast as possible.

If a flight of F-15Es had whatever inflight refueling and overflight permissions they needed, how fast could they get there?

The best great circle route is right at 7500 miles.

Could they maintain 1000 mph at high altitude for the seven and a half hours to get there? I guess eight or nine hours with slowdowns for refueling.

Is that even reasonable or essentially impossible?

The ferry range is 2500 miles, needing only 3 refuels. But what's the ferry speed and would it essentially slow them down enough to be the same as a commercial airliner?

Thanks in Advance.

My first Light Novel... is done.

Well, I mean aside from a horrendous amount of editing, tweaking, continuity checking, etc.

But it's done. All the chapters are written. Twenty-five thousand words. Which is a little light for even a light novel, but I do need revisions and editing... and perhaps adding some in places.

It's a shōjo style light novel about three friends who met in high school, separated, and came back together.

If anyone knows a good manga/anime style artist who would do some commission pieces (that I will absolutely pay market rate for), please let me know.

More emotional stuff below...

I've been a frustrated writer for nearly 40 years. I love science fiction and fantasy and have written a fantasy novel (that's crap). I found that I got too involved in world-building. everything had to make sense and I spent more time thinking about the implications of a thing than just writing.

My child got me into anime. And I finally found some that I adore watching. Slice of Life, romance, comedy. Which is so weird for me. But I love the simple (not simplistic) characters and the situations that aren't violence and mecha battles (which I still like).

I had an idea for one of my own, two weeks ago. I started writing it then. So far, I've averaged over 1500 words a day. I couldn't stop. I would lay down to sleep and ideas would form and I had to get up and write them.

Before, I struggled to get 400 a day and I just didn't even really want to write. This one was almost a compulsion. I had to get these kids' story out of my head.

Thanks for reading.

Great Cthulhu, I need a title now....
