stir fry 👆👆👆👍👍👍

brown rice, impossible steak bites, and frozen stir fry mix with some soy sauce, salt, chili flakes, and ginger 🙂‍↕️ it was really good! first time trying the impossible steak thats been sitting in my freezer for a while, i actually liked it a lot better than the beyond steak! it wasn’t too chewy and had a nice texture and flavor.

iced sugar cookies?

does anyone know where i could find a vegan version of these? i miss them so much but have never seen vegan ones i dont think, and dont feel like looking through all the ingredients at every store to see if one has them. i live in houston if that helps.

does this sound like a legitimate/fair price and description, or like a dropshipper?

thinking about getting this for a friend who has a personal relationship to saint michael. i image searched it to be safe and found varying copies ranging from 35-600 depending on material.
this is the description mentioned by the seller who is offering it for $65 but idk if it seems legit: “made of 925 Silver. The necklace is handmade in Italy and is signed by the seller.” or if it just seems like something theyre drop shipping for significantly more than it’s worth?

how do you decide when to foster fail and how do you go about it?

TLDR; started with 10 kittens 13 months ago, now still have 4. have been considering foster failure for a while but thought i couldn’t because of my eldest resident. resident had to be euthanized on sunday, so now that gives me one less reason not to foster fail. leaning toward foster failing 2 out of the 4 since my remaining resident is sociable and gets along with them well, but just curious to see other’s perspectives and how they proceeded with foster failure.

i feel like i have a unique situation thats causing me to really consider foster failing.
last april (2025) i found 10 kittens thanks to their now deceased (🥀) stray mom giving birth to 5 and putting then in my neighbors car via open window as i watched in disbelief. i brought them in, plus 5 others, about 5 weeks later.

over a year later, i still have 4/10. i have naturally grown very attached to them and love each of them. i always told myself i couldnt foster fail because of my eldest resident cat. 2 of them are more socialized than the other 2 since they were brought in at a younger age (plus other 2 had to be kept in a 2 story cage for many many months due to lack of space- trust me i practically begged the org to take them off of my hands so they could have actual free space to roam in without stressing my 2 residents+ the 8 other kittens out at the time). the 2 super socialized ones spent 3 weeks at some condos at a petco an hour away. i missed them so badly at the time, to the point where i visited them multiple times even though i previously said i would never drive to that location and coordinated with someone else to drop them off. someone was considering adopting them at the end of their time there but went MIA when it came to be then she said she would be able to do a trial adoption (there was no adoption ppwk or anything official so nbd). i was secretly hoping she would flake since i at least wanted some more time with the 2 back at home. 1 of them is the descendant of my first stray that passed away and a tortie just like her. the other is a chaotic tabby boy, likely the descendant of 2 of my current super sweet tabby strays.

still, i just didnt see how i could make it work with my resident. i could make it work with the tortie, but her tabby “cousin” i wasnt sure- 4 cats would be a lot especially since i plan to move to a HCOL state in the next few years. he also was a lot at the time, but he settled down once he came back from the condos so i started thinking about it a lot more.

well, sunday my eldest resident had to be euthanized, as she had been battling FIP for 2 years and her body just couldn’t take it any more. i miss her so much, and have cried so much about losing her and never being able to see her again.

but losing her also made me consider keeping the bonded pair. my now solo resident cat loves playing with them and is a very sociable cat- she would not do well being a single cat, especially now that i work an 8-5. my cat that passed away was also a tabby (though a bit different from the boy), so it feels like it would be like carrying on the memory of tortie’s mom and my eldest resident whom i both lost.

i’m seriously considering keeping these 2 and just continuing to foster the other 2 less socialized babies until they get adopted. i dont want to go to adoption events anymore, i just want to enjoy spending time with them all in the comfort of our home. im not in a rush to get rid of anyone anymore; theyre all getting along, have enough space, and overall are pretty manageable. obviously having 5 permanently would be too much, but i think 3 would be manageable, especially given that i have managed up to 12 inside at one point lol.

im going to put some more thought into it and not rush to make a decision- just going to continue observing the 2 i want to adopt and how they interact with my now solo resident. thinking about the financial and long term aspects. im considering taking them to the vet to get a full check up and assess for any conditions i may not be aware of, though they were already tested for FELV and something else? when they were neutered.

im not sure how or when to bring it up to the organization yet. i think i may wait until im 100% sure, as long as there continues to be no potential adoption inquiries.

I’m curious to see other’s perspectives on the matter.

also, i dont see myself fostering again after this experience. it has been entirely too much. i thought i would have them for a few months and it has been 13. the organization didn’t prepare me for what to expect whatsoever and haven’t given me a choice to give them to another foster when i was at my wit’s end, since there were supposedly no other available fosters. i was burned out for so long with little to no support, especially when you account for all of the stress that came with managing my eldest cat’s health issues, and myself getting COVID at one point. i would love to take in some of my strays, but i just know i dont have the capacity to foster/socialize them inside, especially now that i work in an office full time. i also dont want my remaining resident whos very social to have to deal with having no playmates during a potential new fosters quarantine/ introduction period. i alsooo dont have the capacity to navigate the potential of them having complex health issues and re-experiencing everything that my now deceased resident went through.
the girl hasn’t been outside since 5wks and boy since 8-9wks (and still wont be allowed outside if i adopt them), so it would be less likely for them to have a disease as cruel as FIP was.

day 1 was saturday (all pictures from the day)!

present day im still struggling a little adjusting. the bite blockers are the absolute worst for eating and i kind of struggle to talk normally- almost like my
jaw is wired shut 😭 tried eating ramen at s restaurant day 2 and it was horrible. noodles constantly getting stuck and uncomfortable to chew. favorite meal so far is kroger’s frozen vegan gnocchi 🙂‍↕️ the softness of the gnocchi and not getting too much stuck in the wires is 👩‍🍳💋

is it possible to get an emergency blood transfusion for cat? would it even be useful in our situation?

cat is severely anemic. bloodwork last performed monday showed her down to 10% RBC. Prenisolone no longer effective, Atopica was for a month or two but not anymore.

she has been quickly regressing more this weekend. today is the worst- hasn’t eaten anything except for Lil Soups today, refusing everything else. gave her appetite stimulant but no luck yet. extremely weak and hasn’t left closet since last night (over 12 hours now). definitely peed on herself at some point and just sat on it because she was too weak to even get to the pee pad on the floor. (shes sitting on top of a container, ive since attempted to clean her up and put a peed pad under her).

on thursday vet said it looks like we have run out of solutions and it is likely time to start looking into palliative care. he is consulting with a internal med specialist tomorrow to be sure theres no other treatment options he’s missing. (more context [here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/AskVet/s/ZisodONFao) ). i was hoping for her to be okay this weekend but with how she’s doing today, im paranoid she wont survive the night.

the most immediate/ “easy” solution would be to get an emergency blood transfusion if possible, but i dont know if it would just be a waste of what little energy she has (and money) to do that since her body is destroying whatever blood cells are produced?

Anemia spreading, Palliative care-- Second opinion

MAKING THIS POST TO SEE OTHER VETS PERSPECTIVES; IF THERE ARE DIFFERENT TESTS OR NEXT STEPS THAT YOU WOULD SUGGEST, OR IF YOU AGREE WITH OUR VET THAT WE HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL OPTIONS.

I generally trust our vet, but just want to be able to say I have truly exhausted all options and there is really nothing else that can be done for my girl.

* Species: cat
* Age: 7
* Sex/Neuter status: spayed
* Breed: DLH
* Body weight: 3KG
* History: Diagnosed wet FIP 2024, did full 84 days of Stokes. She has been anemic since then, mainly in regards to bone marrow. Taking prednisolone for 2 years at varying dosages. and .4ml Atopica for most of March, all of April and May. Fluid extracted and seen by internal med specialist around april-june 2024, further exam results that I don't recall.
* Clinical signs: low RBC, initially responsive to prednisolone then atopica, but as of June 1 RBC back down to 10% from last check in April. vet reports "bloodwork is showing signs that the anemia is no longer just from the precusor cells in the bone marrow but also directed toward the circulating blood cells."

Discussed further in depth via phone today and he expressed that we may have to start looking into palliative care and eventually euthanasia if things continue to decline. I did ask what he thought about getting a second opinion and whether it would be productive, he expressed he can consult with the internal medicine specialist that first discovered the FIP and see if she has any differing guidance, but doubts she will say anything different. I asked him to please consult her so we can say we exhausted all options and he said we should hear back from her next week. What I was able to understand and note down from the call:

-liver looks okay. looks like RBC is being destroyed- lab said it is sticking together/clumping.

-consistent with autoimmune disease which is consistent with former FIP and anemia? but worsening; we were managing it at the bone marrow level with the prednisolone for the past 2 years, but it has now expanded.

-abnormalities suggest she's not getting enough nutrients; numbers line up for loss of potassium and other things that are consistent with her appearance such as loss of muscle mass.

-he did his research to the best of his ability and wasn't able to find any resources to any solutions that would help her immune system beyond what we're doing at this point. expressed that the consensus in humans at this point would be a bone marrow transplant, but that's not possible in cats.

-she is not able to produce RBC much and what is being produced is being destroyed by her immune system. with minimal response to steroid now, looks like there is not much of a solution.

-suggested it is probably time for palliative care; making sure her quality of life is where it needs to be, and if she's not feeling well/better for an extended period of time (didn't specify time), looks like the next steps would unfortunately be euthanasia. expressed that from what he researched, most cats usually don't make it this long with bone marrow disease.

I took her in Monday due to visible loss of muscle mass, eating a little less (about 3-5 oz/d wet food vs 11+ at her best), even more lathargic and apathetic, peeing just outside of the litter box and on rugs, doesn't appear to be grooming herself, suddenly floppy ear; in addition to routine bloodwork that's done every 2-3 months since 2024, the vet took a urine sample and performed an ultrasound. Ultrasound didn't show any masses, just poop balls (if i recall correctly). She's sleeping all day and hiding a lot more often, when she first started prednisolone she started to become her loving playful self for a bit but since mid to late last year has been pretty lathargic- always sleeping never playing, not liking to cuddle too much.

* Duration: Monitoring consistently since ~April 2024
* Your general location: Texas, USA
* Links to any test results, X-rays, vet reports etc. that you have: I have all/most results since april 2024. I will just include the recent results and let me know if it would be helpful to have the older tests as well.

anemia spreading; vent

edit: i just posted more details including test results in my post on askvet here

my poor baby was diagnosed with wet FIP almost exactly 2 years ago to the day.
2 years later, she is still not back to herself. she was doing good, for a while prednisolone helped. but this year has been bad again- especially the past couple of months. atopica seemed to be helping at her last blood draw visit. RBC went up from 9% to 16.7%!!! she hated atopica and has become more distant and depressed after starting it, more resistant to taking prednisolone, but thought it was worth it for the results.
then this past month there was visible muscle mass loss, swollen/bloated looking tummy, not grooming, eating a bit less, peeing just outside of the litter box or on a rug, and seemed to be even more resistant to taking atopica- hiding when it was time to take it, running away if she heard me open the bottle.

finally monday i decided to stop cheaping out and make her regular bloodwork visit a full checkup visit. vet said there was a bit of fluid in her tummy again, but he didnt mention anything about FIP this time. no masses found thankfully. vet said since she is not doing well behaviorally with atopica we can just stop it finally. did a blood draw and urine sample. just got back the results today and received this message: “I received Kitty's lab results. Her anemia has worsened. Her level is currently at 10%. Her bloodwork is also showing signs that the anemia is no longer just from the precursor cells in the bone marrow but also directed towards the circulating blood cells. I believe this is the reason she has not been responding as well to the prednisone. Would you have a chance for a phone call tomorrow when I am back in the office to talk about it further?

i’m worried about what’s to come next- if there is a viable solution and if she will finally be back to the pre-FIP Kitty i found 6 years ago. hopefully the vet has a good treatment plan in mind. i just feel really bad for her suffering for so long :’(

Which dress looks best for an afternoon ballet?

(white cardigan would prob be worn inside the theater with any of the dresses) will iron before if i have time. last dress is my least fave bc it’s giving church girl (no offense)

edit: comment added ( here )with all of the dresses (minus 4 bc already posted) with the cardigan! sadly i only have the cardigan or white “coat” as options. we are going out to eat after at a mid-scale vegan restaurant, and it’s houston, so outerwear will probably be for theater only.

The Business/ El Negocio/ Ó Negocio

I have enjoyed watching the first 3 seasons of this show and practicing my spanish. The forced dubbed spanish audio was weird at first, but after 3 seasons I got used to it and appreciated it as an opportunity to learn more spanish. Then, season 4 hits and suddenly it is back to original portugues audio with no option for spanish audio. This would have been fine if the show started that way, but after 3 seasons having to get used to new voices and language is so strange.

Why do they do this? Was season 4 of the show just not popular enough in (spanish speaking) Latin America to have Spanish audio or what? 😭 I want to finish the show, and it’s still entertaining, but it’s so weird to adjust after 3 seasons.

(i marked out the episode description just in case it would be a spoiler for anyone lol)

Bloated but can feel every vertebrae of spine

she is 7 years old spayed, indoor only since ~ september 2024. USA, can afford vet care.

concern: I’ve noticed for at minimum the past few months she has appeared a bit bloated on the sides but what concerns me most is that I can feel her entire spine when I pet her. She eats breakfast well throughout the day, and dinner just okay. I am already going to work on making her a vet appt for her regular bloodwork this week, but debating whether to make it a nurse appointment or also get an exam with the vet even though her annual isn’t until September.

background: diagnosed with FIP ~ June 2024. (tested negative but had wet FIP symptoms) did the whole compound meds thing, didn’t make too much of a difference. been on prednisolone at varying dosages almost the whole 2 years to help with appetite and low red blood cell count. started liquid Atopica in March or April due to prednisolone not being as effective alone anymore. (going to have to ask vet for substitute for Atopica because, alrhough it helped RBC, she HATES it and has regressed with willingness to take pred as a result, hides under couch around the time i give it to her, etc.)

I’m worried she could be backsliding into another FIP “episode” or having bad side effects from all of the prednisolone (15mg/day for past several months) and that just focusing on the RBC is resulting in other issues going unnoticed. We go to the vet for blood check every 2-3 months. I could also just be paranoid since I’m just always worried about her ever since she was first diagnosed with FIP and regressed a lot from when i first found her, which is why i haven’t fully addressed this concern with the vet yet (mentioned it via text but also that i could just be paranoid). i dont remember if ive always been able to feel her spine, but i dont think i have because i feel like i used to be able to brush her occasionally and now i can only brush her sides, otherwise im just rubbing her spine which cant be comfy for her.

Houston Ballet Seating

Planning to go to see An Evening with the Stars this weekend and am not sure what seats would be best. I can afford any seats in the highlighted sections. This will be our first time attending a ballet.

For those who have been to the Houston Ballet, what would you recommend?

Lunch time! served with a backstory

All of my regulars: Silas, Grisa, Cinnie, Bunny, and Biggie are here for a late lunch! They didn’t eat too much for breakfast so they had a lot of leftovers. Normally it’s a plate for biggie to himself since he’s the newest addition, but I already washed his plate after breakfast. Everyone but biggie has become (or arrived) socialized enough to let me give them all of the love and even pick them up briefly. Biggie let me give him a good amount of head scratches for the first time today and hissed at me when he had enough!

Cinnie, Grisa, and Silas arrived around a year ago when I started leaving out food for another stray that has since passed 🥀 (still fostering 4/10 kittens she brought me a year ago, other 6 finally adopted!). Grisa was a little shy at first but was friends with my first stray so gaining her trust wasn’t too difficult, especially with churus! Cinnie arrived with her bestie Preci (who was a regular until the SPCA ambulance took her in for a leg injury in march or april) last june. They would share a little bowl of dry food together and munch away from a safe distance. Silas also arrived around the same time but I chased him away at the time, not wanting him to bother any of the girls since I hadn’t begun my TNR journey yet. Once I started TNR he was welcome and, from what I remember, I would encourage everyone to accept scratches before i could put down their food, which helped them socialize more quickly. Then Bunny randomly popped up around November? Likely abandoned because she was extremely friendly to humans but not cats, similar to another regular i used to have that had an “owner” (i was able to tnr and adopt her out to a better home! sadly don’t have the resources to do the same for bunny). Bunny has come a long way in socializing with other cats, i think in part due to Cinnie. After Cinnie’s sister left us, she became a little more “sassy” and defensive with the other cats (except grisa and silas for the most part since they’re sweet/neutral to all other cats) so if Bunny tried to come after her, she fought back until they got to the point where now they can sniff noses every time they see each other. Biggie popped up in February and has slowly become a regular since i TNR’d him. He used to run away when he would see me but now he will sniff my finger every day and occasionally let me sneak in a scratch or 2 (churu definitely helped with getting scratches in).

I rent, so i don’t plan to stay here forever and I’m always worrying about what will happen to them when I leave. I want to move out of state within the next 1-2 years hopefully, but will have to figure something out for them. I can’t foster them myself because my residents (and limited space) won’t allow it, and fosters are super limited here in Houston. I know bunny could be a good indoor cat, she used to always try sneaking her way inside, and cinnie and grisa would probably do well with some patience. Silas is around 6 so I’m not sure how he would do with transition, but he is the sweetest of all of them (though still pretty skittish if i approach him standing up or off of the porch). and biggie is only at the beginning of his socialization journey.

new job haul!

just got a new job in a department I’ve been dying to break into at my company! My first 8-5 after a couple of years of primarily wfh, so I stocked up on things to wear for the office, as well as some casual dresses. Some of it was definitely bought on impulse, especially with the first order only allowing me to hold items in the cart for maybe 30min 😭 hopefully they all turn out to be good! i downloaded the app on saturday and quickly became addicted; i have spent over 11 hours on the app in total since i downloaded it 😖 i have to cut myself off after this bundle 😭

tacos with pickles 😋

sent this to my mexican partner, this was his response:
“Jajaja más americano es imposible, mi amor en todo el tiempo que tengo de vida y a los cientos de lugares que he vivido nunca había conocido a nadie que le pusiera pepinillos a unos tacos jajajaja impresionante ❤️”

it was okay. it started with sweet pickles with kroger soyrizo in hoagie rolls (also with onions, daiya chz, and bell peppers), which was phenomenal, and once i ran out of hoagie rolls turned into this. (kosher baby dills, 1/2 tofu scramble 1/2 soy curls, onions, bell peppers, daiya, corn tortilla). i take a bite of taco followed with a bite of pickle :)

should i cancel my appt with DDS?

I just made an appointment with my dentist office to get braces, but the appointment isn’t until June. They would be $3000 for 6-12months $2000 after insurance and with monthly no interest payments ($125/month @ 0% after $500 deposit ),. I went on here to see if this was a good price and realized that I didn’t even think to do due dilligence and just went with this one on impulse due to it being walking distance from my home. As a result, I realized that it would be done by a DDS general dentist and not an ortho- which I have learned is not a good move from this subreddit. it’s a pretty small office, so there are no client testimonials or results photos and only 2 old reviews.

It would be solely cosmetic since my teeth are a bit crooked but not bad enough to affect my dental health.

Is it still best case to find an ortho and cancel with the dentist?

Stray with raw/injured paw pad

one of my regulars showed up with a slight limp maybe 2 days ago. I was finally able to look at it today and noticed he has a kind of raw looking edge of his paw pad on his left paw. i haven’t been able to get a good pic or video of it, the best i have is the middle clip.

is this something that can heal on its own or that would need vet care? i can take him to the vet if it would be under maybe $500 but not sure how he would do with recovering outside if it’s something serious. he’s a sweet boy that i would love to take in, but i already have 4 fosters and 2 residents right now and the residents are not open to any more fosters. i also would only have a tiny bathroom to “quarantine” him in and he’s a big boy💔.

the other option is the SPCA ambulance. not sure if this looks serious enough for them to take him though? i think he would be a good candidate for adoption because he is such!!!! a sweetie but am scared to give him up because 1. selfishly, he’s my buddy and seriously such! a sweet boy so i will miss him 2. more than anything- i had another stray with a more serious limp that they took, who seemed adoptable to them and i still havent seen her posted on their website so im scared she did end up euthanized in the end :( and with kitten season being here im scared that would be his fate as well :((

ultimately, if it’s something that’s causing him a lot of pain and super serious, i will absolutely do whats best for him and call spca ambulance as our best bet. just not sure if that’s the best choice or not?

I have been fostering Karma and Jasper for exactly a year now! They turned a year old last month and are “cousins” (moms were a bonded pair of strays before karma’s mom passed last summer🥀) that have grown up around each other their whole lives! I started with 8 from their 2 litters, and slowly all of their siblings have finally found their new homes. Now it’s just these two and another two I found in June left over.
Yesterday I dropped Jasper and Karma off to go stay in some condos in a Petco in Sugarland (Houston). Sadly, they weren’t allowed to be put in the same condo but are at least next to each other (see last photo).

I miss them so much and feel a little sad and guilty about them not being able to cuddle or play together, but am hoping this helps them find their forever homes. They will stay there for up to 3 weeks and, if not adopted, return back home with me. I wish I could adopt them myself but Jasper has too much kitten energy for my residents (and me sometimes lol).
