Declutter of the morning

Hello! I’m the one that posted the super cluttered/messy kitchen and living room with high ceilings. I’m very slowly chipping away, and there hasn’t been a lot of success. But, I have woken up at 6 am twice this week (including today) to declutter and clean. I’ve been watching hoarders or Dana k white’s videos on YouTube while cleaning, and it has really helped to shift my mindset and motivate me. Her videos seriously call me out 😂 anyway. Wanted to share my unfucked(ish) coffee table. It has been covered for months in random things and I took everything off, Clorox wiped the surface, cleaned out the inside storage and put extra blankets and stuff in there rather than leaving all of them in my couch. My couch looks nicer without all of the blankets but I do need to cut down on my pillows. I filled a trash bag and added things to my donate box.

Anyway. Here’s my coffee table before & after. I don’t have a picture of my couch from before but this is what it looks like now. I still have plenty of work to do, but not bad for 1 hour at 7am on a Friday morning!

Oops I forgot to add flair and idk how to add it now lol.

Please motivate me some more 🥲

Anyone unable to view past orders on the Hollister app?

I ordered stuff on April 20th and I’m trying to find my past order to see if one of my packages got lost, but my Hollister app won’t show any past orders. Is this happening to anyone else?

Current living room/kitchen, posting for accountability!

I’ve lived in a messy apartment for a very long time because I’ve lived here for 4 years and have accumulated a lot. My biggest problem is not putting things away right away when I get them (like if I went shopping, packages, etc). So everything sits all over in boxes and bags randomly. It is like a jungle gym 😂 my bedroom is the worst and I don’t have pictures of that, as that will be my last project. Working on my living room and kitchen area as it’s the first thing you see when you enter. Tired of panic cleaning when I have people over or maintenance coming in, and I’m truly embarrassed of how I’ve been living. Just got back from vacation so I need to unpack as well. I’ve also been redecorating my apartment which has been adding to the mess, but it’s not an excuse. This is going to take me a very, very long time to get my home to be the way I envision it being. I’m also wanting more space and to clear paths for my kitties so they can have room to run around 🐱 I’m clearly a shopaholic too 😂😭

Any tips or recommendations on where to start are welcome. I know I need to declutter, but it is soooo hard for me to do that because… I love everything lol. But I know that I have too much stuff

Edit: wow I did not expect this post to blow up. I don’t really post on Reddit so idk what the awards mean either, but thank you! And thank you to everyone for your encouragement/support/advice, I truly appreciate it. I will post progress pictures as I go. 🩷

Crappy house keeping job done- Hilton at Des Moines downtown

I’ve been here at the Des Moines downtown Hilton hotel and am appalled at how terrible of a job their housekeeping did on our room after our first day. They did a terrible job with our beds- it looks like a kid did it or whoever did it just did a rush job and it’s obvious they didn’t try at all. The bathroom clearly wasn’t touched at all. The sink still had a used hand towel and the surface wasn’t wiped down, the trash wasn’t changed, and all they did was swap out the floor bath towel. Our toilet still had marks from usage and they didn’t clean it. Then the trash can in the living area was also not changed even though it was full, and our coffee supplies were not restocked. I tried to use the phones in the room to call room service and they didn’t even work. So I had to call the front desk with my cell, and I was pissed- still am. Whoever did the housekeeping job for our room was awful. I’m not that harsh or picky with hotels but for Hilton, I expected much better service. We are Honors members as well. This is highly disappointing.

The front desk sent an employee to restock our coffee bar and give us new towels, she didn’t even apologize to me once. She asked me what trash needed to be changed, and then she put the bathroom trash can onto the bathroom sink to change it… and didn’t wipe the sink down after. Then she left. Said nothing else, didn’t ask if we needed anything. Made zero comments about anything. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if their housekeeping service says anything about this specific Hilton. I barely complain about hotel service and am usually pretty understanding having worked in customer service myself, but this was absolutely not okay. They also promised us a room on the 8th floor and then changed us to the 4th floor hours into our check in day, and whoever was above our room was moving around/talking super loudly from 12am-6am, with spouts of coughing and puking. Not a huge deal for the noise since you can’t control people, but now I’m pissed about housekeeping and want to rant about more.

See pics attached.

How safe is it to drive if I just started noticing this grinding/squeaking sound from my brakes just within the past couple of days?

I know I have to get my brakes checked out and the brake pads are probably worn out which is what’s causing the sound. I have to leave tomorrow for vacation, would it be safe to drive for like 20 minutes to get to my parents’ house or should I try to just take an uber or have them pick me up? I drove it today because I had to work and work wouldn’t let me take a day off 😅. It seemed okay, just doesn’t sound great. I’m planning to get my car fixed at an auto repair shop the day I get back from vacation.

I’ve lived in my current apartment for like 4 years and have lived at this community for almost 7 years. The leasing office loves me and I love my maintenance guy, an older man who is the only one who does my maintenance orders. Since I’ve lived here for so long, I’ve accumulated a lot of things. I also had a job layoff and went through a tough time a couple of years ago and just kind of let things go over time since I was really depressed, and then I broke my arm last summer and just didn’t maintain my apartment. I also work two jobs so I just haven’t had the energy to prioritize decluttering/cleaning and organizing as much as I’d like to. I’m definitely materialistic, and a little bit of a hoarder/collector and am messy. My place isn’t *dirty*, it’s just messy because I have so many things. I’m a shopaholic too. I usually have to climb over things and I’m aware that I have a problem so I’ve been working on decluttering by selling/donating things and it’s a work in progress but it’s going to take me a long time to get to where I want my place to be. I’m also in the midst or redecorating. My maintenance guy has to come in today to replace my dryer in my laundry room, and I cleared a path for him by moving all of my things in the way into other areas (like my bathroom and living room area) for now. It looks pretty bad, at least to me. It honestly looks like I’m moving even though I’m not 😂

From a maintenance workers’ POV, at what point would you consider it something bad enough to report? How bad is too bad/too messy/high hoarder level? I always feel bad and apologize to my maintenance guy. I’m working on it 😭

Ps this isn’t what my apartment looks like normally, it’s because I had to take stuff out of my kitchen and laundry room to make space for the dryer swap. This is just what it looks like right now since he’s moving the new dryer in today
