PSA: Remote Raids on iOS 26 reliably crash before the encounter

Remote Raids on iOS 26 reliably crash the moment the Raid Boss is defeated, even if both your iPhone & the game have been restarted right before the Raid. Downloading all assets doesn't help either. This has been happening since the Sobble CD on the app version 0.417.2

~80% of Raids (both remote & in-person) I've joined since Sobble CD have crashed right after the boss was defeated, although people are reporting rates of 60-100%. I've even lost a 2185 CP Ray from a crash. I'll need further testing on the crash rate, but the earliest I could do it myself is tomorrow

These Raid-specific crashes usually affect iPhones from iPhone 7 to iPhone 16 Pro Max (not sure about iPhone 6s/17e/17 Pro, although the iPhone 17 has been reported to be relatively crash-free) & are not to be confused with the non-Raid-specific crashes on the 2^(nd) iPhone SE

For now, it's best not to join Remote Raids on iOS 26 to avoid wasting your passes, unless your iPhone almost never crashes (such as from being new)

Previously, the game would uncommonly crash either before or after a Raid started, but it would never crash if the game had just been restarted, suggesting that the old crash bug was an iOS-specific memory/cache issue. Now, the game consistently crashes the moment a Raid boss is defeated, suggesting that this is a new bug

Edit: iPhone 17, 17 Pro Max & Air are reported to be crash-free, but there are now reports of crash bugs on Android & iOS 18

Edit 2: This might help you get your encounter back:

>When I have crashed today and last night, I have been able to scroll my friend list and click their highlighted picture and get the encounter

Which strategy should I use to finish the GBL free Research?

Apart from playing however you want (which is the best strategy), which strategy would you recommend for finishing each page of the GBL free Research?

  1. 50 wins 1^(st), then 100 battles
    1. Even though it can feel like additional wins are somewhat "wasted" after the 50 wins are done, I think this is the best & intended way to finish each page, as the additional wins would still yield GBL rewards & add to your remaining battles
  2. Focusing on getting to rank 20 & treating the Research as free extra stuff

There's also 100 battles 1^(st), then 50 wins, but it doesn't suit my playstyle as much as the other 2

I decided to read this because I can't sleep. What is a "chess" & how do I play it? Is it similar to GD?

Also how do I jump? (The foreground of the 2^(nd) image is an actual GD level)

Always Be Checking

I was about to push & promote my pawn when I noticed that my opponent was at risk of running out of legal moves

I then remembered the mnemonic ABC (Always Be Checking) to use in these situations

Is there a lore reason why forfeiting doesn't count as "battling" in the GBL Research?

Clarification edit: I like how forfeiting now counts as a "battle"/loss as part of Preview Cup changes, & another thing I appreciate is retaining livestream drops

I appreciate that you can now top left once you/your opponent has started a Charged Move as part of Preview Cup changes, but I believe that forfeiting should count as "battling"/a loss in the GBL Research instead of a "null" match (which otherwise happens when you/your opponent has an error & the battle ends, but still adds a battle to your X/5 battles played in a set)

It saves the frustration of running into an opponent when you have 3 CP 10 Pokémon, while they use a fully powered-up Chansey/Basti & go AFK throughout the whole match (wasting 5 minutes if you don't forfeit)

To play around this, I use Little Cup Pokémon because they're fragile enough to go down in a few fast moves, yet strong enough to defeat AFK opponents

I'm aware that there's a lore reason for Primals being unable to break shields in SM Raids (& even in-game reasons such as using Super Max Megas in a battle instead of Primals for Candy farming), but is there a lore reason for forfeiting not counting as "battling"/a loss in the GBL Research?

By the way, is it better to prioritise getting to Rank 20 or to prioritise the GBL research? I'm at 50 wins/90 battles on Rank 17

Edit 2: I also appreciate that it was changed from 100 wins per page to 100 battles, along with keeping the free Elite TMs from the research. However, they removed GBL events (& therefore a source of ETMs), so you now have to do the Research for one of each ETM free. To be fair, it would make sense for forfeiting not to count as "battling" in previous seasons due to more sources of ETMs being available, especially when the research required 100 wins per page

How are people able to charge Charged Moves faster than usual? (added diagram for clarity)

I've played PvP since its release & have won 7180 Great League matches, but there's still something I don't get. Re-uploading because I forgot to add a diagram of the match I played

I just started a match with my Hypno lead against a Vaporeon lead. They switched to Pidgeot right before I threw Thunder Punch

Pidgeot used a Wing Attack "during" my TP, giving it a 2-turn lead (this is not a bug & happens as expected). However, Pidgeot threw Brave Bird after just 4 more WAs (at the start of my 3^(rd) Confusion), & My Hypno was reduced from about 60% HP to 0. In total, 10 turns were used to charge BB (including 2 in the middle of my TP)

My Hypno was KO'd 4 turns before it could reach another TP (which would be charged in 12 turns). However, BB usually charges in 7 WAs instead of 5 (count 7-7-7-7), which would be 6 WAs after my 1^(st) TP

The top diagram is what actually happened in the match I played. The bottom diagram is what I think would normally happen, including Hypno always losing CMP

I ended up losing 8 Rare Candy on rank 15 due to people charging Charged Moves faster than usual in 3 other matches. How is Pidgeot able to reach a Brave Bird in 5 Wing Attacks, & how would I play around it if it happens again (saving shields for nuke moves, using spammier/bulkier mons, etc.)

Edit: I should get into the habit of recording every match, & I think lag was the most likely culprit here

Theory: update on Strauss-Howe generational cusps being 6 years long with 3 years on either side

TL;DR: As of 2026, S&H theory allows for exceptions to the pattern as well as cusps, which are likely 6 years long with 3 years on either side. The theory also might receive an update/new book around 2029, potentially confirming/refuting the "3 years each side" theory

3 types of cusps (excluding the null): (source)

  1. Proximity-based cusps: the definition Strauss-Howe generational theory likely uses. 3 years around the cutoff (if the start of the next generation is 2025, the cusp would be 2022-2027)
  2. Ambiguity-based cusps: if I believe 1999 is the first possible Homeland year & 2005 is the last possible Millennial year, then 1999-2005 would be my cusp. This used to create the shortest cusps, but nowadays, it creates the longest
  3. Turning-based cusps: e.g., saying 2002 is the first (possible) Homeland year because they're unlikely to remember the start of the Great Recession. I believe they function as evidence for the other types of cusps because cutoffs are partially based on events (e.g., experiencing the end of a turning)

The 1^(st) image depicts one of the old Millennial-Homeland cusps (proximity 2002-2007; ambiguity 1999-2004). Strauss-Howe generational theory likely uses definition 1 for cusps & definition 3 for main generations

The 2^(nd) image depicts the pattern of core main-generation members being children of the previous generation, such as Generation X usually raising Millennial children. This pattern was strengthened in 2023, when Homelanders were confirmed to be children of Millennials, in line with longer life phases (refuting the "shortening generations due to technological change" argument). The previous definition used in the 2010s described Homelanders as the children of Gen X. On a side note, Homelanders are also now defined as the 1^(st) generation fully in the 3^(rd) millennium because Millennials "span the turn", & how the term was coined is in the 3^(rd) image

In contrast, cuspers today tend to be children of the generation before the previous generation (e.g., a 2006-born growing up with 1977-born parents) or children of cuspers themselves. Cusps aren't to be confused with the 1^(st) & 2^(nd) waves of a main generation, even though some people also treat them as "cusps"

Examples of 6-year cusps (all S&H ranges):

  1. Progressive-Missionary cusp: 1857-1862 (ambiguity 1857-1865). Someone born in 1857 would be the last to experience the start of the American Civil War, while someone born in 1862 would be the last to experience the end
  2. Greatest-Silent cusp: 1922-1927 (ambiguity 1919-1927). Someone born in 1922 would be the last to have more than half of their childhood in the Roaring Twenties (pop culture refers to them as "perfect 20s-30s hybrid kids"), while someone born in 1927 would be both the last to fight in the Second World War & the last to remember the 1^(st) full year of the Great Depression
  3. Silent-Boomer cusp: 1940-1945 (ambiguity 1942-1948). 1940 is the 1^(st) full year of the Second World War, & it lasted until mid/late 1945
  4. X-Millennial cusp: 1979-1984 (ambiguity 1975-1984). 1984 is the 1^(st) full year in the 3^(rd) turning/unravelling, so it fits that the cusp ends there
  5. Millennial-Homeland cusp as of 2023: 2003-2008 (ambiguity 1995-2013). Predicted to be in a similar fashion to the X-Millennial cusp, but not all cusps are where the end of the cusp is the start of the new turning (an old ambiguity-based Millennial-Homeland cusp was 2000-2005, as shown in the 4^(th) image)

Exceptions: Boomer-X cusp (proximity 1954-1967, up to 7 years on either side; ambiguity 1954-1969). There is a possibility that even in a proximity-based system, the Millie-Homeland cusp will become another exception (with 4-7 years on either side). Another exception would be the American Civil War crisis, lasting only 5 years, which formed the Progressive-Missionary cusp

If this pattern continues without exceptions, the Homeland-next generation cusp will be 2027-2032 (with the next generations likely being 2030-2047 & 2048-2069, as well as the next cusp being 2045-2050)

However, the main Strauss-Howe generational theory (or at least the Homeland range/4^(th) turning end) might be updated by the end of this decade (in addition to the 2023 update), & there are theories of the centre of the Millennial-Homeland cusp being pushed back to 2007. Some of these theories are based on the decline in birth rates (such as those in the US, depicted in the last image)

Personal ranking based on reliability:

  1. ambiguity (old/short version)
  2. experience
  3. proximity
  4. ambiguity (modern/long version)
  5. null/no cusp
