Depeche Mode - People Are People (Different Mix) (12 Bong 5, Germany, 1984)

Cover has some light marks, vinyl is most likely unplayed. Very nice seller too. Stoked to have this beauty alongside the red marbled vinyl People Are People (ON-USound Remix By Adrian Sherwood) 12 inch I got on a fair for 35 euros some years ago.

Both sound as they look: fantastic!

Name a record you bought on a whim because of the cover art - I’ll start with Andy Stott’s “Luxury Problems” (Modern Love, 2012)

Andy Stott - Luxury Problems

This gorgeous album cover caught my eye at a record fair, on a rainy day in the fall of 2012. The seller said it was “dubby techno with angelic vocals” and that the LP was worth it for the title track alone. Bought it for €20 without having heard a note.

The record sounds great, with deep bass and cinemascope production. Love it. Especially the title track.

Would be interesting to see or read about the records you guys bought on a whim, because of the album’s artwork. (Please no “whipped cream lady” lol)

EDIT: Reddit was acting up again and refused to show the pics, so I reposted this.

Hidden artwork/photography found inside the “Memento Mori” vinyl LP

Sorry, if this is common knowledge...

I just found some hidden artwork/photography inside the “Memento Mori” limited edition red opaque vinyl. It’s located opposite to the front cover, in the left gatefold pocket that holds the A/B record. As far as I can see, the pocket for the second record is just black cardboard without anything else.

I tried to take some photos, but I don’t dare to stretch the cardboard any further for fear of tearing it apart. So they’re quite shit lol. Does anybody have a picture of the full artwork/photography? And secondly: is it present on all versions of this LP?

(Back in the day, it also took me a while to discover the hidden “Dessous” photograph tucked away underneath the original black tray that holds the “SOFAD” CD….)

Underrated albums: The Orb - Orblivion (Island Records, 1997)

The Orb - Orblivion

Fantastic album with beautiful artwork, but a bit underrated even by fans. On the bright side: you can still get an almost mint copy for the price of two large pizzas.

This Depeche Mode foldout CD with three trays had to be completed with two separately sold CD’s - Was this a common thing or is it really special?

Depeche Mode - In Your Room (January 1993)

The main CD with the foldout cover:

CD Bong 24

The separately sold single CD’s:

LCD Bong 24

and

XLCD Bong 24

If you have more examples, please share them.

There they were, hidden between all the dad rock, Celine Dion, dodgy eighties compilations and Josh Groban: Global Communication’s masterpiece and The Orb’s underrated trip to “Cydonia”

Rainy day May Street Fair mini haul. Stoked!

Global Communication - 76:14 (With the cardboard slip case and the bonus CD in mint condition)

The Orb - Cydonia (UK & Europe first edition, beautiful condition)

Got this US pressing of “Hunky Dory” dirt cheap at a store that specialises in used books - guess I lucked out for once lol

I checked, it’s this version:

https://www.discogs.com/release/1623547-David-Bowie-Hunky-Dory

The sleeve is VG to VG+, the insert is NM, and the vinyl plays clean and smooth, almost without crackle. Hasn’t been played much for sure.

Paid 15 euros for it. Also bought this https://www.discogs.com/release/119104-Carmine-Coppola-Francis-Coppola-Apocalypse-Now-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack and this https://www.discogs.com/release/919770-Peter-Gabriel-Sledgehammer-Limited-Edition-Dance-Mix for 5 euros each.

Left the shop in quite a hurry after I paid, afraid they were following me to correct their mistake lol. They didn’t. Guess it was my lucky vinyl day.

Finally got Enjoy The Silence (The Quad: Final Mix) - Now the 12 inch vinyl collection is complete

Managed to find a French release (distributed by Virgin, pressed in Germany) of The Quad: Final Mix (with the etching on the b-side) that didn’t cost an arm and a leg lol. It’s the one on the right, in case you’re wondering.

The other versions:

12 Bong 18 (Germany, including the full length 07:21 minute version of the Hands and Feet Mix)

L12 Bong 18 (Germany, the yellow one)

The Reprise Records American pressing, which also features The Quad: Final Mix and the complete Hands and Feet Mix. Gotta love those American pressings.

This may well be The Orb’s finest collection of remixes, but prices for the CD are off the hook - if you can find one at all, that is…

There’s only one CD (1) for sale on Discogs. For a very reasonable 140 Pounds before shipping, lol.

Never thought it would become a “grail”, when I ordered this CD (quite late to the party already) on Bandcamp, for 20 quid in August of ‘23. Sold out everywhere now.

Love this cool DM “In Your Room“ triple CD collection

This beautiful collection consists of three different releases:

CD BONG 24
Digipak (Triple Gatefold, holds all three CD’s)

In Your Room (Zephyr Mix)
In Your Room (Extended Zephyr Mix)
Never Let Me Down Again (Live in Liévin)
Death's Door (Live in in Liévin)

LCD BONG 24
Single

In Your Room
Policy Of Truth
World In My Eyes
Fly On The Windscreen

(Recorded live on 29.7.1993 in Lievin, France)

XLCD BONG 24
Single

In Your Room (The Jeep Rock Mix)
In Your Room (Apex Mix)
Higher Love (Adrenaline Mix)

My local record shop back then had all three CD’s, including the triple gatefold centrepiece that holds all three CD’s. You had to buy the two other releases separately though. I remember getting a bit of a discount, because the shop owner wanted one fan to have the complete set. Legend!

Still one of my most prized DM possessions. Those remixes and especially the live versions are just brilliant.

I’ve never been into 7” singles, back in the day. I always used to save up a little longer to buy the 12” records lol. When I saw this one, I couldn’t resist: it has the Jack Mix of “Happiest Girl” and the Tonal Mix of “Sea of Sin”. If I’m not mistaken, when you want those versions on vinyl, they are only available in the 7” format. Also, it’s been established that these are in fact the “original‘ versions of these great songs, even if they are named as mixes. The single looks gorgeous too imho.

What a coincidence we had this question about the gesture/album art yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/depechemode/s/N1eQHufrO6

The 7” single’s got the cool voiceovers, the air raid siren, the slamming percussion and the overall better mix. Why they chose not to include it on the “Welcome To The Pleasuredome” album is beyond me. The album version pales in comparison. It sounds kinda empty. It’s shorter, too.

EDIT: this version‘s correct title is “Two Tribes (>>Cowboys and Indians<<)

I’m curious to read which single version of a song you prefer over the album version.

The Orb's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld
(RSD 2016, Limited Edition Quadruple Vinyl)
From when you could actually buy the record you wanted on Record Store Day. Paid 65 euros, if anyone’s wondering. Goes for insane money online now.

Recently found these 12” records that were released just before the “101” album dropped, iirc. It’s a weird combination of old and new remixes, and some live tracks from the Rose Bowl gig. The music is great, but I think the cover photography is absolutely brilliant. The photos really achieve a sense of connection between the fans and the band. Peak Anton.

The one on top I bought at a record fair. It has four “101” live tracks and the superb Absolut remix of “Everything Counts”.

https://www.discogs.com/release/7137273-Depeche-Mode-Everything-Counts-Nothing-Sacred-A-Question-Of-Lust

The other one I bought from my local record store for 10 euros. The sleeve has seen better days, but the vinyl plays beautifully. It has the fantastic “Strangelove” remix by Mark Saunders and “Ultra” producer Tim Simenon (aka Highjack Mix), and the pretty rare extended US remix of “Nothing”.

Bit late to the party, I know, but I always thought I would come across one of these “in the wild” some day. It never happened. Finally ordered one on Discogs, mint and quite cheap.

Now I see there are only four left for sale on Discogs. Two from Ukraine, and one each from the US and Australia. What’s up with that? Are these vinyl reissues becoming rare? Anybody know how many were pressed?

Anyway, very glad I finally have this.
