Weird question but,. What subspecies is the Galapagos Tortoise in these games really?

Galapagos tortoises range a lot, from shell shape to eating habits there’s at least 14 types of these guys just knocking about,.. soo now I’m just curious on which one the PZ animal is based on,. Has it ever been confirmed anywhere or is this a situation where we just, have to guess?

I know theres a chance its is not based on a single subspecies and is some John Tortoise but still, im curious now

I’m running on 4 hours of sleep and a can of Pepsi soo I thought I’d share this here to spark a discussion at least. I’ll join in later, but first I need rest

The weekly animal guessing game has got harder and harder lately but this week especially felt like Frontier’s own “Jigglepuff seen from above” moment ngl

Granted I’m not complaining about the tortoise, there’s no secret that reptiles are easily my favourite animal group and I’ve wanted to see more of them in the sequel but still, this is hard.

Hopefully this does mean they can do the finching behaviour now tho

I see a lot of people asking for larger fish but honestly, I just hope we get some Anthias representation here

So far we do have a decent selection of saltwater shoaling fish, but I can’t help but think they are all pretty limited in their colour pallets (4 whitish species, 1 yellow, 1 silver and 2 blue and yellow). This isn’t as noticeable in larger tanks but for a smaller reef tank Ideally id also want a pop of red or pink to break up the cold colours.

My suggestion: Anthias

There’s a ton of different species, almost always rocking some vibrant eyecatching colourscheme. Some are dimorphic, others are not but they are all pretty extravagant little guys. They are also fairly common in the pet trade and have successfully bred in captivity, if that’s a concern for people here (not that hammerheads or sunfish have but whatever).

These are just a few species I selected as options but there’s tons out there I could see fitting into the game nicely. In order you have the Bartlett’s Anthias, Squarespot Anthias (also with the female which looks completely different), Borbonios Anthia (which is basically just Mr Blobby the fish) and Ventralis Anthias

Granted I am bias towards Anthias having worked with them in the past, but idk, they are just pretty lil guys

I’ve just been playing around with the new increase combat/dislike sandbox settings options and can I just say, this is a game changer. Coelophysis has got his teeth back, pterosaur/lagoon fights don’t take a whole hour to do, herbivore brawls and soo much more!

Here’s just a list I’ve things I’ve tried:

* Coelophysis can now hunt tiny dinosaurs again and can fight small carnivores like in JWE2. Before this chance the ONLY small carnivore it could fight is the Atrociraptor because it’s the only one that doesn’t like “Scavengers”. And yes, Postosuchus can fight Coelophysis now, WWD fans will like that one

* pterosaur and lagoon fights go soo much quicker now, both lining up for their animations almost instantly without needing to be starved/become unhappy first (which is especially awkward with the pterosaurs typically needing multiple of a species for them to feel crowded enough to fight, then stopping once one of them is killed). Tapejara vs Cajiara is finally possible, as is the Quetz fighting most pterosaurs for example.

* herbivores that are in similar size category can now fight without restrictions. Pachycephalosaurids vs Pachycephalosaurids fights are now possible for the first time in the series. Iguanodon and Deinocheirus can fight other herbivores like the Therizinosaurus can and we can see more ceratopsians lock horns with eachother.

* this is moreso a side affect of the increased combat rate/more fights being possible but this is absolutely amazing for screenshots. I’ve tried taking screenshots of pterosaur combat before and got nowhere but now, it’s soo much easier

There’s probably a lot more too but these are just what I’ve tried.

I only recently started playing Starfield and Sarah hit me in the feels

>Minor vague spoilers for her questline below btw<

For context, I went through a particularly rough patch of my life a few years ago, so naturally I’m very familiar with unhealthy coping mechanisms. I’m a lot better now thankfully but the way she blames herself, pushes away relations and copes via avoidance just, looks waaaay too similar as a trauma survivor.

Obviously our situations are different (and no I’m not sharing what happened to me on REDDIT of all places) but still, Sarah managed to hit me in the feels more than any other Bethesda game character. Sure there’s other characters I really felt for (namely Cait in FO4) but the relatability aspect here is really something else.

Also we are married on this playthrough now. I know she’s just lines of code and dialogue boxes, but, dear gog I wanna make her happy ;-;

Now we have the shoebill, I’m just making these memes now in hopes I will Marabou Stork into existence

At least make it a DLC species, I can’t imagine it would be too difficult too compared to a lot of birds that have been suggested.

I know I’m very much bias towards these guys (literally my joint favourite bird species along with the rosette spoonbill) but still, Idk now feels like the perfect opportunity to add them to the game.

I know everyone is talking about the Shoebill here but, are those fish out of the aquariums I see?

Hopefully this isn’t just a nature reserve thing and we can just, plop the fish in with habitat species. I’d love a shoal of these beauties in with my hippos or really most water based African species (assuming they aren’t gonna be eaten of course)

Also loving the colour variation too

The juvenile Gigas are looking extra weird since the last update

I’m not alone when I say i can see the resemblance right? Bro is literally the Giga of the Triassic

u/Ryaquaza1 — 9 days ago

I’m just realising now how many Rex skins are in this game. Like bro, save some for the rest of us!

Still find it weird how we got every single canon rex skin (unless we count junior i guess) yet we still have yet to get the CC Dilophosaurus or Spinosaurus,. Maybe someday I guess

Also 3 of these are literally just Rexy too,. Weird

I feel like more people should know about one of my favourite moths. This is Thyas juno, or as I like to call them, the UwU moth

(This isn’t an official name but come on, look at the wittle uwu face!)

u/Ryaquaza1 — 12 days ago

I like the way nobody is talking about the absolute side eye young Desmatos have. They look soo judgemental

u/Ryaquaza1 — 12 days ago

PSA: apparently Torosaurus is bugged currently and cannot fight other herbivores despite being a thing in the previous game

Typically even species that can’t fight still roar at eachother (ie most herbivores that dislike eachother and are in different size categories or sauropods with eachother/smaller predators) but for some reason Torosaurus can’t do that ether. Against carnivores it seems to work fine, there’s a little jank but overall it works, but against herbivores it’s like it isn’t recognised by others.

It kinda sucks that we can’t see that horn locking animation here. Just thought I’d share this so frontier is aware and can possibly give it a little look into in an update

u/Ryaquaza1 — 13 days ago

Soo, about the Longfin batfish,. Can we please see what the juveniles look like in game?

Just something I’ve had on my mind a lot is how different juvenile and adult batfish are and if that could be replicated in game. I know PZ juveniles are never too young but still I’m curious in what they do with this guy.

This species is practically a 2 in 1 deal!

I was just messing around with the deep water and apparently Distortus Rex is big enough that it can just, wade through it. Bro is not beating the part sauropod allegations

I guess that makes sense given his size and how the deep water isn’t all that deep (comparatively speaking anyway, Spinosaurus has its toes touching the bottom half the time too) but still, it’s a cool feature.

Everyone is talking about the birds but honestly, I’m just happy the Malaysian tapir is back

Also that’s our confirmation that ground species can live in the aviaries. I know people kinda expected they could but still, it’s good to see

Edit: also thank you autocorrect for turning Malayan into Malaysian,. Oops

Just something funny I noticed. Especially with the Golia- oops I mean Giant Slippery Frog

Honestly this gives me hope they’ll rename the Caribbean flamingo to well, Caribbean Flamingo, especially since most zoos do refer to it as such and it better reflects their range

Then again I’ve never heard someone use the name Giant slippery frog before soo who knows?

u/Ryaquaza1 — 16 days ago

Everyone is talking about Simosuchus but ngl I’d worry how he’d be implemented

Frontier has a bit of a bad track record with the tiny species. Homalocephale is genuinely great but all the others kinda blend together mechanically. No combat between eachother (despite the Compys having the animation in the first game and Oviraptor and Lystrosaurus literally fighting eachother for most of their screentime) or really any any greater interaction between them and larger dinosaurs besides predation, which always ends the same and is rather limited in which can even do it (ie pterosaurs can’t touch Psittacosaurus but Homalocephale is fair game, utahraptor can go for a Moros yet Cryolophosaurus will starve when put next to an oviraptor etc etc).

Frontier has the opportunity to do something really funny here. This guy is incredibly armoured soo it would be nice to actually see that in it’s animations, make predators struggle to bite it and drop it, inflicting damage to both (heavy damage for simo, tiny 5% damage to the carnivore) then have it repeat until it eventually gets overpowered. This way we could see a few fun situations arise, like a venomous, statistically modified simo which can survive an encounter with a weakened predator rather than it just being fodder number 28.

Realistically I just know it’s gonna be a reskinned Lystro, potentially even down to its kill animation but still. I wouldn’t want such an interesting animal to be another Hypsolophodon pack filler without any new animations/mechanics. If the little guy is gonna just disappear into the grass 99% of the time I’d at least want it to do something when it isn’t
