Earth Dust

Can someone please explain to me exactly how Earth Dust works in the RWBY universe? I hear it get mentioned in fan-based works more often than in the actual show, so I don't fully know what its effects can do. Can anyone in the FNDM give me all the details?

Like for example, can Earth Dust be infused into your weapons haft/shaft (like for a spear or polearm) to make it basically unbreakable?

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 60: The Feathered Serpent (Images Courtesy Of RWBY Wiki, Visual Lexicon Of Aztec Hieroglyphs, And Smite Wiki)

Welcome to Episode 60 of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology", FNDM. On today's visit to our mythology movie theater, the heroes and villains of Remnant will be making their first foray into the realm of Mesoamerican mythology and folklore.

And what better place for the RWBY ensemble to start with than with what is easily the most famous Mesoamerican deity of all time. To the Aztecs, he was Quetzalcoatl. To the Mayans, his name was Kukulkan. But whatever name he went by, all were used to describe the same principal deity: The Feathered Serpent.

For today's survey, FNDM, I want to hear what you think the reactions and opinions of the RWBY characters would be to the many Mesoamerican legends surrounding the character of the Feathered Serpent.

RWBY OC Basis: Lu Bu

Fun fact about me: I am a HUGE fan of the band Sabaton. And recently, I have become addicted to their recent song, "A Tiger Among Dragons", which is based on the life of legendary Chinese warrior Lu Bu.

My addiction to this song, coupled with my plan to give Yang Xiao Long Lu Bu's weapon (the Fangtian Huaji) in addition to Ember Celica in my planned RWBY rewrite, has made me realize a question I should have asked the FNDM a LONG time ago.

That question is this: Who here in the RWBY FNDM has created an OC that is based on/inspired by Lu Bu? If you have created such an OC, then I want to hear all the details about them. Their backstory, their personality, their appearance, their weapon(s) and fighting style(s), their Semblance, the whole shebang.

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 58: Mulan (Images Courtesy Of Forever Classic Games And The Belcourt Theatre)

Welcome to the newest episode of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology", FNDM. On today's episode, the heroes and villains of Remnant are having another viewing of one of their mythological counterparts/bases, this time for Lie Ren of Team JNPR.

That's right, FNDM. Today, Teams RWBY, JNPR, CFVY, and the rest of the RWBY character ensemble, heroes and villains alike, shall react to the legend of Lie Ren's inspiration, Hua Mulan.

And yes, the RWBY ensemble will be reacting to both the original myth from Chinese mythology, and Disney's version of the tale (the animated version, NOT the live-action version).

So what do you members of the FNDM think the reactions and opinions of the RWBY heroes and villains would be after reacting to the story of Mulan? As always, please be respectful when posting your replies.

That's right, FNDM, today I want to know what you think the reactions and opinions of the RWBY ensemble would be after they've reacted to the story and world of Robert E. Howard's iconic character, Conan the Barbarian. And to clarify, the characters from RWBY will be reacting to the original novels, the comics/graphic novels, AND the Arnold Schwarzenegger film duology.

RWBY Fanfiction Trope: Weiss Schnee And Fast Food

First and foremost, I know this is belated, but a VERY happy birthday to our favorite resident ice queen, Weiss Schnee!

Second, I'd like to get the FNDM's thoughts on a trope regarding Weiss I've seen in RWBY fanfiction that I absolutely love. The trope in question is Weiss being introduced to "fast food" by her teammates.

The basic gist of the trope is pretty simple: Weiss has lived her life eating a very refined and cultured diet, but at some point her teammates introduce her to fast food, and she very quickly becomes addicted to it.

The first time I ever saw this trope was the story "On Silver Wings, With Iron Hearts" by "ClemPrime" on AO3. (Spoiler Alert) At one point in that story, Weiss's teammates basically call out how dainty and small Weiss's meals have been, and they conclude that her father was attempting to starve her by making her follow the diet she's been following. So they resolve to solve this problem by introducing her to fast food, and Weiss very quickly learns she absolutely loves its taste.

Another part of this trope that I find always results in pure comedy gold is when her teammates introduce Weiss to fast food, she's completely baffled by the concept of fast food as a whole. One of my favorite examples that use this type of storyline is "It's Bo Time!" by "SnowQueenOfMyHeart" (also on AO3), where Yang treats her teammates to the Cajun fast food place Bojangles, and Weiss has no idea what to make of a lot of the food and drink there ("Who puts ICE in tea?!").

So who else in the FNDM likes this idea of Weiss very quickly developing a craving for fast food? Is this a trope/story device that you would probably use yourself in your own writings to flesh out her character? Lastly, what type of fast food do you think Weiss would come to love the most?

RWBY Fanfiction Concept/Plotline: Grandmother Salem

Just a few minutes ago, my brain was imagining random scenarios for RWBY AUs and one of them immediately grabbed my attention.

In this scenario, it gets revealed that Ruby Rose and Salem are actually RELATED to each other. More specifically, Salem is Ruby's grandmother (in the scenario I imagined, Summer Rose is still Ruby's mom, but Ruby's dad is actually a son of Salem, making Salem Ruby's grandmother).

Has anyone in the FNDM written (or considered writing) any piece of RWBY fanfiction where Ruby is Salem's granddaughter in some way? This feels like a plot twist that could potentially create some very compelling story drama.

Nora Valkyrie Outfit Design Feature Question (Images Courtesy Of RWBY Wiki, Five World War Wikia, And TV Tropes)

I've got a question for the FNDM regarding a feature of Nora Valkyrie's outfit.

My question is, do you feel that it is mandatory for Nora's outfit to have that heart-shaped cutout in its chest?

Up until they get to Atlas and get new outfits, Nora's outfit has always had that heart-shaped cutout in the chest area. But the Atlas version doesn't have that feature.

This appears to be something I've seen a lot of negative reactions to. Sometimes I've even heard the same be said for fanmade RWBY projects. One such example is Nora's design in the fan-project RWBY Evermorrow. I've seen some reactors on YouTube look at Nora's design and basically say, "It's okay, but it needs the heart symbol on the chest. Otherwise it doesn't feel like Nora."

So is the general consensus that Nora's designs are better when she has the heart symbol on her chest, or are there sections of the FNDM that are okay with it being absent?

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 56: The Arabian Nights (Images Courtesy Of RWBY Wiki, Books Of Wonder, And Disney Movies)

Welcome to the newest episode of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology," FNDM! On today's visit to our mythology movie theater, the heroes and villains of Remnant shall react to the Middle East's most iconic collection of myths and legends: The Arabian Nights.

Since there are so many tales in the Arabian Nights, we are mainly going to have the RWBY heroes and villains react to arguably the three most famous ones: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, Sinbad the Sailor, and of course, Aladdin, the inspiration behind Remnant's very own Emerald Sustrai. And in the case of Aladdin, the RWBY ensemble will also be reacting to the Disney version (the animated one) in addition to the original myth.

So what do you believe the reactions and opinions of the RWBY ensemble would be after reacting to the tales from the Arabian Nights? What do you believe Emerald would think of her mythological basis/counterpart?

So what do you members of the FNDM feel the reactions and opinions of the RWBY ensemble would be after watching the many hijinks and antics that Loki got himself into? As well as how often his pranks tended to backfire on him and HE had to be the one who fixed them?

Oscar's Potential Semblance: Temporal Manipulation?

I've got a question regarding what Oscar's Semblance could be.

A large portion of the FNDM appears to be in agreement that Oscar's Semblance should be something to do with manipulating time. But I'm curious as to how far everyone thinks that power should extend.

Should it just be a single variant of manipulating time, like only the ability to rewind time? Should it be like in Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, where Link can rewind time for objects but not people? Or should it be like the Prince Of Persia Trilogy, and Oscar can learn how to rewind, slow, freeze, AND accelerate time (for himself)?

If Oscar DOES get a time-related Semblance, which version do you think he should have? Or should he have a completely different Semblance in your eyes?

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 53: Robin Hood (Images Courtesy Of Hero Fanon Wiki, RWBY Wiki, Hachette UK, And Disney Movies

Welcome to Episode 54 of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology", FNDM! On today's episode, we have another instance where the heroes and villains of Remnant will be reacting to the mythological counterparts of one or more members of the RWBY ensemble.

This time around, the RWBY heroes and villains will be reacting to the legend of Robin Hood and his Merry Men, the inspiration/basis behind Robyn Hill and her Happy Huntresses. So when posting what you think the reactions and opinions of the RWBY ensemble would be to this myth, I especially want to know what you believe the Happy Huntresses would think of the characters they are based on.

This will also be an instance in this series where the RWBY heroes and villains will be shown two versions of the myth they are watching. They will be shown both the original version of the myth, and the Disney reimagining of the myth. I chose to do this because this is one of several myths/legends/folklore/fairytales where the Disney version is easily one of the most famous and well-known retellings of the story.

Help Wanted For RWBY OC Concept: Rival For Sun Wukong.

FNDM, I need some help creating a character concept for a RWBY OC.

Here's what I do know about this OC I'm trying to create. First and foremost, I'm basing him on the character Erlang Shen from Chinese mythology.

Just like Erlang Shen, his weapon of choice is a Sanjian Liangren Qiang (Three-Point Double-Edged Spear), but I'm split on how Dust will work with his weapon. Should I try to find some way to convert it into a firearm form, or do you think it would be cooler to have it be a pure melee weapon, and it gains ranged capabilities by him putting Dust crystals directly into the blade to give it elemental powers (if you think the former would be more appropriate, I'll need some ideas on how the weapon conversion/mechashift could work).

As far as his backstory goes, I want to further reference Erlang Shen in the following ways. First, my OC comes from a prominent and wealthy family in Mistral, but that family has always tried to use its wealth for the betterment of Mistralian society as a whole (Humans and Faunus alike). It also helps that his uncle is a very high-ranking member of the Mistrali Council (Erlang Shen's uncle is the Jade Emperor), but a lot of corrupt officials have often stonewalled his attempts to bring more equality for humans and Faunus.

The second way I intend to reference Erlang Shen in my OC's backstory is my OC has a very big rivalry going with Sun Wukong of Team SSSN. My OC's family and himself do not support any form of anti-Faunus racism, but he, personally, cannot stand Sun. My OC is a very disciplined man who takes everything in life maybe a little too seriously, and as such, Sun Wukong, who has a very carefree and reckless attitude most of the time, just constantly rubs him the wrong way in almost every way possible. They will absolutely work together if a mission requires it, but my OC has zero interest in trying to make friends or hang out with Sun.

The main areas I need help with this OC is what his name should be, and what his Semblance should be. I would love any suggestions from the FNDM in these two areas, and I will make certain to credit you for these ideas in my planned RWBY headcanon rewrite when I finally get around to creating it.

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 52: Hecate (Images Courtesy Of RWBY Wiki, Smite Wiki And The Crystal And Wellness Warehouse)

Welcome to the newest episode of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology", FNDM. On today's episode, the heroes and villains of Remnant return to the world of Greek Mythology. And seeing as we have gone past the 50-episode milestone, I have decided to start including episodes where the RWBY ensemble will be reacting to the characters from mythology/folklore/fairytales that each of them are based on.

In the first example of these episodes, we are starting off with the RWBY heroes and villains reacting to the inspiration and basis for everyone's favorite mute assassin, Neopolitan. That's right, FNDM, today I want your thoughts on what you think the reactions and opinions of the RWBY ensemble would be to Hecate, Greek Goddess of Magic, Witchcraft, Sorcery, Crossroads, and Boundaries.

RWBY Reacts To Mythology-Episode 51: Godzilla Minus One (Images Courtesy Of Forever Classic Games And Godzilla-Movies.com) (Godzilla Belongs To TOHO Company LTD, RWBY Belongs To Viz Media)

Welcome to the newest episode of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology." On today's episode, the heroes and villains of Remnant once again venture into the world of the King of the Monsters.

This time, the RWBY ensemble will be reacting to what has become the most universally praised and well-received Godzilla film since the 1954 original: 2023's "Godzilla Minus One".

So what do you members of the FNDM feel would be the reactions and opinions of the RWBY heroes and villains after they've watched this terrifying portrayal of Godzilla's fury and the destruction left in his wake?

Do you think the film's overall theme of survivor's guilt would heavily resonate with a lot of the RWBY characters?

(RWBY belongs to Viz Media. Godzilla belongs to TOHO Company LTD.)

Welcome to Episode 50 of "RWBY Reacts To Mythology," FNDM! Thank you to everyone who has taken time to view each of the episodes in this series! I truly appreciate all who have taken part in commenting on each survey episode and hope that countless more individuals in the FNDM will do so in the future as well!

For the landmark 50th episode in this series, the heroes and villains of Remnant will have a showing in our mythology movie theater that I have planned since this series' inception. Today, the RWBY ensemble will take their first foray into the GODZILLA franchise! Specifically, they will be reacting to the original 1954 classic.

So what do you members of the FNDM feel would be the reactions and opinions of the RWBY heroes and villains after they've reacted to the original debut of the King of Monsters? Rest assured, though, this will NOT be their last encounter with Godzilla...

Ruby Rose Using A Dagger/Knife?

I'd like to get the FNDM's thoughts on the idea of Ruby using a dagger or knife for close-quarters combat (CQC) in case she loses Crescent Rose for some reason.

This is an idea I'm thinking about incorporating into my planned RWBY headcanon/rewrite. After the Fall takes place and everyone (minus Weiss, who was kidnapped by her father and taken back to Atlas) is back on Patch healing up and prepping for a "full-scale assault" to retake Beacon (this will be my Volume 4 plot), Ruby asks Yang to help her with her hand-to-hand fighting.

Yang agrees on the spot, but despite how good and patient a teacher Yang is, Ruby still struggles to be anywhere near as good as her sister is. Quick strikes she's okay with, but punch and/or kick combos and things like grappling/wrestling are just not her forte. She's also not a fan of blocking hand-to-hand strikes (she'd much rather dodge, which can backfire if her opponent anticipates which way Ruby is going to dodge).

At one point, Blake (who stayed on Patch with everyone in my headcanon/rewrite) suggests Ruby maybe learning how to fight with a dagger or knife. This ends up being absolutely the right call by Blake, because Ruby turns out to be an absolute NATURAL with a dagger. And it doesn't take her long to decide to keep a dagger hidden in each of her boots from that point onward.

So FNDM, what are your thoughts on the idea of Ruby keeping a dagger or knife on her person as a backup if she's forced to use CQC in a fight? Is this an idea you would endorse? As always, please be respectful when posting your replies.
