Winter is coming....

But as of today I'm ready!

90% Doug fir or Hemlock. A little Maple, Alder, and Madrone scattered about.

Out of frame is my pile of Cedar for kindling and ambiance for making love to my wife on the bearskin rug.

(J/k. I dont have a bear skin rug)

Car sat outside for 6 months - Pollen now crusted on like concrete.

I gave the car a "first pass" wash last night and 90% of the pollen came off.. But there are still areas (hood, roof, etc) that has some buildup that is really crusted on. This isn't a show car, but I also don't want to damage the paint.

What's my best option for getting this off?

I have a pressure washer with a soap pickup and low pressure sprayer that I've been using to apply soap/water.

Looking for a "game" to inspire us to try new things.

My wife and I are in a serious rut. It's a nice rut, but a rut none-the-less.
A lot of it comes down to "lets get this done quickly and quietly because the kids are asleep but might wake up."

But when we do have the house to ourselves, not much changes. Same things, just a little louder.

My wife is fairly conservative in bed, but we're looking for a game, cards, dice, phone-app, whatever , that might ease us old vanilla folks into trying something new.

I know these things exist - but when I google the options seem a little overwhelming. Hoping for some first-person reviews -

Lovable floof. But still keeps us safe

This is Oberon's guard post position.

I used to laugh that he was guarding us from the bunnies.

But the other day a young Coyote wandered too close and we learned Obi still has that protective instinct! Coyote lost. Felt bad, but also . Duh?

I love this silly mutt - and I'm glad my wife takes him whenever she goes into the woods to jog.

Homemade refried beans.
Homemade Salsa.

Nice view.

Pretty good sunset, too.

I've done 20+ knots racing on a Ker 46.. But this is still my favorite boat -

First pic is mine taken from the Wooden Boat Festival. The rest are scraped from the web.
The long low foredeck reminds me of a C3 model corvette. But less mustache-y.

>FLYGBUREN
(Pronounced “flee-buren”, roughly translates to “Airborne” in Swedish)
This is one of many designs from the pen of noted Swedish designer Knud Reimers. Called a “Tumlaren” (tr: Porpoise) they were designed in 1934 for racing in the deep fjords and coastal waters of northern Europe. It is a smaller version of his noted “Albatross” design.
The sail plan is designed to meet the requirements of the 20 Square meter class of boats raced along those waters in the 30’s. The distinctive high aspect fractional rig and short tacked head sail allows the boat to capture a range of wind conditions within the sail area requirements of the class. Today she also sports a genoa on a roller furler and a modern asymmetrical spinnaker.
Her full keel, canoe stern and tumblehome hull make her a stable but nimble platform in the demanding conditions found in her home waters. Her austere, but welcoming interior can accommodate two for short cruising trips with an alcohol stove and dry head.
Completed in 1993, this version was built locally in Kirkland over 6 years by Andy MacConkey. Typically carvel planked, this version benefits from a cold molded hull over 4 layers of cedar. She was later painstakingly refitted and renovated by Mark Bickford around 2019, including new custom bronze hardware and winches from Port Townsend Foundry. Her sails and covers were thoughtfully crafted by Sean and Inger at Northwest Sails and Canvas in Port Hadlock.
She is currently under the stewardship of Frank Brennan and is homeported in Eagle Harbor.

$20k to spend. I think I want a 2013-2017 S5 Sportback Coupe.

My goal is to make my short commute fun, while still being able to step out of a car and not feel weird about being a middle-aged man. I'm done remodeling my home and just sold the F150, so have about 20k max to spend.

Am I doing this right?

Duck egg quiche with someone who never notices.

In all the movies it's the guy who doesn't notice his wife's new haircut, or that she got her nails done, or forgets their anniversary.

Apparently that role exists for some husbands too. I add flowers to the dining room, or get extra spruced up if intimacy is possible that evening. I buy her little extra favorite things when I go grocery shopping. If she's had a bad day I do extra household stuff so she can relax a little.

She doesn't notice.

Going out for dinner? I put on a little something extra and pretend it's date-night.
I mention she's still in her jeans-and-t-shirt work clothes - "It's not like we're going someplace fancy..." she says. "Who cares?"
... yeah I guess. who cares.

She's great. We've been married a long time. No infidelity - not even worried about it. She puts in her 9-5. I put in my 9-5. We work on household improvements together. Raise 2 great kids. But I sure wish sometimes I wasn't treated like Spouse-Bot-1.0.

Edit: I want to make sure I'm being fair here. I'm sure I have some annoying quirks. She's a lovely human - a great mother and a good spouse. Just the lack of romance/notice just gets to me sometimes.

Still a lot of work - but sure glad I had the Case 485 today

Putting in a gravel driveway and removing years of "added later" concrete sidewalks, landings, ramps, etc.

Was a heavy lift for a couple of those large pieces for sure!

Any guesses on weight? Or. How do I weigh this thing?

I'm curious if this would be too heavy for my wife's vehicle to tow (5000 lb max tow). My truck pulls it fine (9000 lib max tow), but I've never actually known the weight.

1993 all original. 115hp 4cyl Merc 2 stroke.

Think we climbed the Mt Everest of cast iron. No sticking!

I don't do anything fancy with it. "Chainmail" if it needs it, soap+water+scrubby for usual cleaning. Followed by a heat on the stove to dry it and a very light coat of vegetable oil wiped on and then off again.

The dinner time Huevos Rancheros were excellent.

Lady and truck doin truck things. Love 'em both. Happy Memorial Day

Same routine tomorrow and we'll be set for our winter wood. We go through about 3-4 cords depending on how cold the winter is. About 90% of our heat comes from this.

Getting to know a guy at work who raises lots of different animals. Mentioned that i used to have chickens, but never tried duck eggs. So he brought me in a _dozen_ .. SCORE.

So much rich yolk. Amazing.

Newbie - What else can I play?

Here's a video of me playing this after about 2 months from my first notes, and 1 week of practicing this particular piece.
Far from perfect, I know - but I'm excited because it's "REAL MUSIC!"

Here is a picture of the sheet music that I'm working from in this video:

Passacaglia

Looking for more music of similar difficulty that will help me continue my progress.

I printed out Satie's Gnossienne No.1, and I can play the melody, but that big jump on the left hand makes it a little out of my league for now I think.
One day :)

P.S. I thought any old cheap 88-Key keyboard would do for practice.. And I guess it does.. But that Amazon $60 cheapy is, to nobody's surprise, a total piece of garbage. :D

It's just a number. But is a bigger number so it feels good :)

I'm about 8 weeks in. My practice time is pretty limited, but I'm still making progress and some of the things coming out of the piano occasionally sound like music.

I'm still struggling to walk and chew gum - i.e. I can play the left and right parts on my practice songs by themselves with decent speed and accuracy. Soon as I do both I have to bring it down to a crawl - and my accuracy still suffers.

But.. WE're gonna keep at it. It's exciting when something clicks.

Trying my hand at Puget Sound Ling - Bought it like this, best setup?

Bought these 100g jigs as recommended by the guy behind the counter. I've been googling and I've seen a million different configs on hook placement, etc.. Trebble on the bottom, 1 hook on top.. 2 hooks on top.. 2 hooks on bottom.. etc.. What is the best way to rig this?

I could tie my leader to the "tail" and just go for it, but hoping to maximize success in hopes of getting my kiddo interested in being on the boat with dad for a few hours :)

Also found this setup which seemed interesting?
