What makes dune movies so compelling?

They are widely loved and seemed to have turned into a big franchise , I started the first part and couldn't get into it , have been thinking of re-watching it. I know the novels are regarded very highly. Has anyone who has watched the movies explain it to me ?

Schindler's list is brilliant at screenplay

Just watched it recently and I have always adored steven spielberg , the screenplay was so good and the way the era of germany has been depicted is impeccable , I have consumed a lot of media depicted the era and Schindler's list is absolute best at it. What captivated me was how neatly the movie is crafted. Generally movies which span over 2.5-3 hours are flawed as they tend to be dragged out and fail to deliver the movie in a tightly written way , Schindler's list is one of the very rare movies or probably the only movie I have watched which is so tightly despite being a 3 hours + movie. The movie was also astoundingly emotionally resonant , the mass burning scene was deeply emotional and disturbing , I cried along with oscar Schindler. What also intrigued me was how the economic cycle was depicted during those times , a lot of works based on ww2 have shown the war-torn side but forming a business model like oscar Schindler during that time ? now that's different. And of course I can't overlook the mountain scene where oscar is looking at the little girl in red in the image posted above from the mountain while the mass killings were being committed , truly horrifying and disturbing , Screenplay at its finest. And at last words can't describe the acting brilliance of liam neeson , ralph fiennes and ben Kingsley. movies like this are the reason I regard steven spielberg so highly only second to stanley kubrick imo.

Something about vagabond I didn't realize earlier

I used to think that vagabond not having independent characters was a flaw, most of the characters were acting as a catalyst for Musashi. But then I realised that vagabond's side cast is supposed to embody its core themes and it's supposed to be a protagonist-centered story. This realisation had led me to believe that vagabond truly excels at what it does.

And yes that doesn't mean that Inoue is bad at writing independent characters because Kojiro's character arc was a masterpiece and we have other characters like Kanemaki, Matahachi, Denshichiro, Inshun and more. And now I truly believe that Vagabond's side cast excels at symbolism and themes they are trying to embody, many characters also acted as perfect foils to Musashi and constantly defined his philosophical outlook of life.

This movie is an absolute masterpiece

I recently watched this movie and I absolutely loved it , the movie hooks you in the first scene , throughout the movie the stakes are always so high and you never what's going to happen. The narrator/protag has very little role , the movie is set on the dynamic/rivalry between the semi- protag and the anatogonist. and shock value is executed so good. the supposed climax was executed in anti-climatic way and it will drop you jaw. the storytelling of this movie truly excels at hooking the audience, it will always leave with ' something is gonna happen ' factor. Overall I recommend this movie to everyone, it's a must watch imo.

hisoka vs chrollo who is better written and why I have hisoka > chrollo ( read below )

I would argue that my favourite thing about hisoka is how unpredictable the character is , I do know that this trait is widely considered one of the strongest or strongest among hxh fandom , this makes hisoka a very compelling character. I also like how his character can act as anchor for plot and I do like characters who drive the plot rather than who are driven by plot. I don't know about the manga but 2011 version of hxh somewhat failed to show the characterization for chrollo , while I do think chrollo has great philosophical depth , I do believe his symbolism is balanced perfectly between individual identity and to a achieve a collective goal. overall this matchup is anything below high or extreme diff for hisoka but I do have him above chrollo for the reasons I mentioned above.
