Anyone else not desire normal life milestones?

I have no desire to get married or have kids. No desire to own a car. Dont want to own property. Don't want to be a manager.

I feel like a weirdo for not wanting what were supposed to chase.

I'm more excited about a week off and getting snacks and a tv show to watch

Which horror novels have the most deranged main characters?

I don't always need the scariest or most gruesome, but I do love a totally unhinged disjointed characters.

The best examples I can think of is Earthlings and American Psycho.

What else should we throw into the discussion?

Liklihood of failing probation because signed off with autism related issue?

I was doing well in my job and everyone was happy but around 4 months into it I began to grow fatigued and became more easily stressed. My doctor signed me off as a precaution to avoid autistic burnout.

What are the odd of being let go because of my issues? I've been off for 3 weeks.

Before I got signed off, I was working on reducing my hours, and they were good with me.

I wont dispute them if they did get rid of me and dont want to play a victim card. I just want to be pragmatic and know what to expect so I can plan my future.

I do actually want to go back if it matters

People with very visible tattoos - has it affected your career?

Lets talk profession/job and if it matters in your field.

I'm personally tattooed everywhere except the face (hands, fingers, neck, head etc.). I'm in the care industry in my 30s so its not a huge deal and I dont think I've recieved any hate (unless they do it behind my back haha)

Is 50% a good staff retention on the first 6 months

The company is in the care sector. I've only been in the industry this year.

Out of the 5 who started with me, 2 remain. 2 quit after just two days.

We had a further 6 join in March and 2 quit and one is leaving.

We recently had a new batch in and 2 have quit already.

Is this normal?

The jobs stressful but there are lulls where you can sit and relax for twenty minutes.

Likelihood of getting sacked for long term illness in probation

Autistic adult working in care here. My first 3 months went really well and was due to pass 6 month probation.

I them had two sick days as I was getting stressed and worn out over the 4th month.

I'm in my 5 month now and got signed off with stress and depression.

I do like my job and want to keep it when I return but feel I'll likely fail probation.

Bring realistic, will they likely fire me when I get back?

Is it safer to stay off with a doctors note?

I'm sad about it all but I wouldn't be angry if they did chop me

Sick Leave - is it a bad sign if they dont check up every so often?

I'm signed off with depression but do hope to go back in the next month or so. Is it a bad sign if the managers don't reach out?

Its hard to tell if they don't care and want you out versus they are giving me space to recover?

Is it normal not to check in on staff on leave for mental health?

Books about evil atrocities and acts

I've been quite morbid lately watching videos on killers and war crimes committed in Nazi Germany.

Has anyone got any book recommendations on the psychology of evil people, accounts of awful failings of humanity, any books on the gruesome and macabre.

If wages stagnate in Vietnam for another decade, will teachers still move there?

Entry level wages have been 400k (16 usd) to 450k (17.50) per hour for the last decade while cost of living increased by over 30%.

Do you think people will still move to Vietnam if the wages remain frozen to 2016 rates in 2036?

(Presuming the cost of living in Vietnam stays above 3% increases per year)

Anyone glad to have left a country when they did?

I was in Vietnam a decade ago and we only made 450k per hour (18 dollars) but we were living great on $600 a month. This was before Grab and functional sat nav were available so its was a bit hectic.

I recently asked a friend in Vietnam how much they made now and its still only 450k to 500k for most of the chain schools and they said its more competitive. Worse is the cost of living doubled so that $1200 a month (35 million) doesn't cut it.

Anyone else had something similar or had this in another country? I heard it happened to Japan as well

The OGs of weird girl lit?

Northhanger Abbey by Jane Austen - a young woman who reads too much gothic lit starts to think who boyfriends dad may be trying to kill her.

We have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson - a young woman in a village deals with the hostility of locals who think she and her sister poisoned their family.

Anyone else have some classics of the weird girl realm?

Do you work full time, part time, or dont work?

According to a Buckland Review Study in 2024, 33% of autistic adults are in paid employment. 1 in 3 of us have a job but it may be different on here as I imagine the profoundly autistic aren't using reddit as much.

I'm personally in a never zone of being able to get employed but usually have issues, get burned out or depressed and go on leave, then I quit or get let go. But because I can work (on good days) I often don't qualify for help so I'm in this constant work and get sick cycle.

How is everyone else doing?

Does meaning and pupose matter to you in work?

I'm in the care industry making just above minimum wage. I get to help vulnerable adults with everyday things and provide dignity to their lives. Unfortunately, the pay is horrendous.

Do you folks go for money or meaning or did anyone jackpot it and does both?

Is it worth working min wage job or univeral credit?

On Universal Credit its £420 per month and around £400 to your house share. Some people get a top up for various reasons but £800 is pretty normal for a single adult.

Full time work after tax, insurance, and pension, is around £1600. Enough to live in a house share but not enough for a £600 flat with the typical £300 in council tax, electric and gas.

Double the benefits sounds great on paper but its easy to start spending £100 a month on buses and i think i was spending an additional £200 due to sometimes eating on the go.

Financially I am better off £500 a month by working but is that worth losing your mon to fri 8am to 6pm?

Note this isn't a question on the morality of labour but merely a practical discussion on, is the juice worth the squeeze?

(edit to save posters time - i do actually have a job but I struggle due to autism and bouts of depression)

Deciding to work or not?

What factors do you consider when deciding if you should work or recieve government support?

I recently read that 80% of diagnosed autistic do not work full time. I'm part of this number, as I have worked but usually I get burnt out, written off sick, recover somewhat and then begin the awful cycle again.

I'm now entering my 40s and I'm just tired of hating work, stressing about which colleagues hate me or what certain interactions meant.

I'm at a point where I'd rather live poor on £420 a month on universal credit than I do earning £1500 a month but being miserable.

What factors do you consider when deciding if work is sustainable for you? I feel like we choose health or money but not allowed both

Off work due to depression - employer keeps asking when I'll be better

It just seems a weird question as how can I know when I'll feel better or IF I will feel better. I just told them I'll go to the doctor and see what the advice is.

When fit notes are provided I'll still get asked of a return date.

Is there a polite way to let an employer know that depression doesn't have a precise timeline so asking is unhelpful to all?

I feel like telling them I'm seeing the doctor for help isn't understood by them so I need to work on how to help them get it

What is the most slept on fantasy series?

We all know Tolkien, Hobb, Sanderson, Erickson, Jordan, Abercrombie, Loach, Donaldson, Pratchett, but who are the lesser celebrated authors who wrote a great series.

One writer i never see mentioned is Markus Heitz of the Dwarves series. Tightly written, interesting plots, well paced action throughout.

Can anyone else recommend a lesser celebrated fantasy author?

Anyone else not suffer from meltdowns?

I know its a common feature for many autistic people but I've managed to avoid them so far.

I get sensory issues with noise or people being too close but it just annoys and frustrates me rather than make me lose control.

Is a meltdown something which happens when we can no longer handle the stimuli?

How to know when to quit your job?

This is an autism and a depression related post.

I live with my parents and I'm a support worker but growing more and more depressed and without energy. I actually like the job but feel shunned by other staff at work due to not fitting in. I dont know why but its really affecting me.

Its frustrating as I'm finally saving money after being in work for 5 months. But the downside is I'm obviously unhappy, stress eating, and struggling to get through the week.

My boss is actually nice, has offered to cut my hours, but I'll still have to work in a negative environment.

The financial aspect of quitting and going down fo universal credit £420 a month sounds bleak (i pay my family £200 a month for food and rent).

Has anyone got advice or tips or can tell me their experience?

If Celtic and Rangers joined the premier league, would they be part of the Other 14 or would they break into the top 6?

I appreciate they'd very much struggle to stay up at first but I'm talking over a longer time period, with their fan base, higher revenue, could they become bigger than your Liverpools and Arsenals?
