Should I give up hope and just get a new phone?

I mainly just trying to gauge who has had luck with getting their iPhone to dry out over time after water damage, or who has not….

I have an iPhone 12 that got some water damage and I’m just honestly trying to figure out if I should go ahead and buy a new phone. I’m not comparing models nor am I asking about buying. I am curious if anyone has ever had any luck waiting it out after water damage…

Here is where I stand, I believe rain got on my screen speaker in the notch in the top. My iPhone as already told me there is a hardware issue with Face ID. In fact that’s when I realized I had a problem. I try to keep my phone on because it likes to get stuck in boot up sequences which I suspect is related to the Face ID. I have already booted to recovery mode and downloaded my backup from the cloud. Long story short, I can use my phone but with only using the passcode and it takes a long time to get it to boot cause once it shuts down, it does that loop boot up sequence with the apple logo. Sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesn’t. Right now I just keep my phone on and hope for the best. I’m pretty tech savvy so I have already tried all the things on the interwebs/googles. I’m not asking for tech advice. I’m asking:

Is it worth still having hope that this phone might dry out over time? Or should I just rip the bandaid off and go get a new phone tomorrow? My plan was to just keep using it until it dies but I’m curious if anyone has had success after water damage….

I’m tired of being asked to round up at every checkout.

Is anyone else reaching the point where they’re exhausted by being asked to round up or donate at every checkout? Between higher prices, tip requests everywhere, and now constant donation prompts, it feels like consumers are being asked to make up the difference for everything.
I have no issue donating to charities I choose, but I don’t like feeling pressured every time I buy groceries, a cup of coffee, or wherever. And while it’s “only a few cents” each time, those round-ups add up over dozens or hundreds of transactions throughout the year. It’s easy to brush off 37¢ here or 62¢ there, but it becomes another recurring expense on top of everything else. And it slows down the checkout process.
Not to mention that most of the time I have no idea about the organization the merchant is affiliated with and whether I should support said organization.
I’d rather decide when, where, and how much I donate than be asked at virtually every checkout.

Does anyone else feel this way?

What if the meta isn’t solved… we’re just heavily overplaying the decks we’ve already discovered?

I’m not convinced they’ve all been found. I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately about complaints over certain cards or the game feeling like it’s always the same meta decks over and over.
It got me thinking about something more fundamental:
If there are now 121 available cards and you build decks of 8, the total number of possible decks is:
899,749,479,915
That’s just under 900 billion unique combinations (C(121, 8)). Order doesn’t matter. I guess we could talk about the first three slots being hero or evo cards and take that into consideration with the math, but I think that’s a topic for a different discussion.
So in theory, the “deck space” is enormous.
Which makes me wonder:
Are we actually seeing a solved meta…
or just a tiny, heavily optimized slice of a massively larger space?
Because even if only a fraction of those decks are viable, the difference between “viable” and “never explored” might be way bigger than we assume.
Not saying balance isn’t an issue. Just that the number of possible configurations is so large that the meta might be more about convergence than completion.

At what age do you think a cell phone is actually needed?

Just curious what others have done, what worked, what didn’t, and whether you feel like you waited too long or gave in too early. Also interested in what rules or limits actually held up over time, and if there are any phone/software setups (parental controls, “first phone” options, etc.) that you’d recommend.

Laid back clan [2000] #RL28G2CG | The Log Fathers

l've played since this game was released, but I took the last 4-5 years off. I’m at around 9000 trophies currently and figured I'd jump back in and create a clan if anyone would like to join.

Wins are sheer talent and you can always blame your losses on back pain and complain about the economy. It won’t be frowned upon if you must correct someone that the reason it feels hot isn't the temperature, but rather the humidity.

35+ only.

Looking for people who are grown, have jobs/lives/ responsibilities, but still enjoy the game without the sweat or ego.

Not trying to be a top ladder clan - just a relaxed group that still plays wars and laughs at bad matchups.
If you're also coming back after a break or just want a chill place to play, feel free to join. #RL28G2CG

How do we actually know radon detectors work?

This might be a dumb question, but I’ve been going down the radon rabbit hole lately.

Radon is invisible, odorless, and naturally occurring. Most of us can’t independently verify that it’s there. We buy a detector, it gives us a number, and we trust it.

How was radon originally discovered? How do scientists know they’re actually detecting radon decay events and not something else?
How are consumer radon detectors calibrated? How do we know a detector reading 4 pCi/L is actually 4 pCi/L and not just some arbitrary number?

I’m not arguing radon isn’t real, I know it’s well established. I’m genuinely curious about the chain of evidence from “there’s a radioactive gas in homes” all the way to “this device on my shelf says I have 3.2 pCi/L.”

I want to know the details of how these detectors actually work in order to have a better understanding of the physics behind it. I want to genuinely learn. Articles, research, etc, anything you have, please let me know.

Converting Electric to Gas Stove Worth it?

Currently have an electric stove, but looking in our basement, it looks as if it might be quite simple to hire someone to tap in to the propane lines and plumb up a propane supply to where our current stove is. Do you think converting to a gas stove is worth it for the added cost of plumbing it up professionally? I’m pretty handy and can handle regular plumbing/electrical, but I’d feel way more comfortable hiring someone for gas.

Has anyone ever switched from one to the other and have a preference?

What’s the biggest change in Clash Royale over the last 6 years?

I stopped playing Clash Royale around 6 years ago and recently came back. Some parts of the game instantly felt familiar, while other parts made me wonder if I’d somehow downloaded a completely different game.

For the players who stuck around:
What’s the biggest change (good or bad) that returning players should know about?
What do you miss most from the old days?
What’s actually better now that people don’t give Supercell enough credit for?

I’m also playing completely free-to-play, so I’m trying to focus on what’s actually worth my time vs what I can safely ignore.

Coming back after 6 years has been… an experience. 😅
If you were in my shoes, what would you focus on first to catch up and actually enjoy the game again?

Slab cutout tubs length away from radon tube. Will filling/sealing really make that much of a difference?

Before I cut into this drywall in order to access this 12x12 inch cutout in my slab and fill it/seal it, do you think it’s worth cutting open the drywall to do so? Right now my pressure on that U shaped meter on the radon device reads .7. Do you think that filling the hole and sealing it will increase the suction enough to justify cutting open the wall?

Our levels are went from 12.6 pCi/L down to a 14day avg of 3.782.

Fan is close to the cutout and I am thinking that filling it and sealing it might be worth it. Or do you think having the company install a bigger fan would work better?

Coming back to Clash Royale after 4 years, starting a chill clan for grown players (The Log Fathers)

No tablets for public outings with our kids… it was HARD HARD HARD but worth it

I see a lot of kids on phones and tablets in public, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

My partner and I made a very intentional decision early on that we were not going to use tablets or phones to keep our kids occupied in those situations.

I’m not going to lie… it was HARD HARD HARD when they were younger. There were plenty of grocery trips and meals out where it felt like we were making life way harder than it needed to be, especially seeing how common it is to just hand a kid a screen.

But looking back now, I’m really glad we stuck with it.

Curious if anyone else made the same choice, or if reality pushed you in a different direction over time?

Anyone else think French door fridges are overrated? We’re going back to a side-by-side.

Purchased a new fridge because our current one needs replacing and chose to go back to the side by side. I’m tired of the bottom freezer drawer because frozen food gets buried and forgotten and not a fan of digging through everything. I miss having eye-level shelves in the freezer.

Which style do you prefer?

White appliances seem to be making a comeback

We’ve been shopping for kitchen appliances lately and noticed something interesting, white doesn’t seem “outdated” anymore. In a lot of cases, white appliances are either comparable in price to stainless steel or even more expensive depending on the model and finish.

It feels like the old idea that white = cheap or builder-grade might be fading a bit.

Has anyone else noticed this shift, or is it just what we’re seeing while shopping?

Curious what people think, are white appliances coming back, or is stainless still the default for most people?

Radon System Optimization

Just recently had our Radon system installed. One of the things that the company mentioned is that they noticed a 12x12 inch cutout in the slab where a tub was installed when part of the basement was finished. He highly suggested that that area be filled in with some type of spray foam in order to optimize the system. The only problem is that it's in a location that is very difficult to get to so I am trying find options without having to cut open the drywall on the other side and then having to repaint the entire wall, because you know that patching that area won't match. My thought was to get some type of long spray foam hose to reach way back and fill in the area. Any products or suggestions are welcome. Also, do you think sealing that will make the world of difference when it comes to mitigation?

Thanks!

Shorten Vertically?

Is it possible to shorten these cabinet doors vertically without it looking crazy bad? These cabinets were installed when standard fridge heights were less than 70 inches. Now most fridges won’t fit in our space without these cabinets being modified by a few inches. The cabinets are modular so I could easily take them down and shorten the cabinet on my table saw, but it’s the doors that I know will be the most difficult and time consuming part. Any advice is welcome.

My other thought would be to cut the trim piece at the top and shift the entire cabinets up, but then there would be that obvious stagger between the top trim piece that goes all the way around the cabinets but then jumps up a few inches higher for the fridge height.

UPDATE 6/14: I think problem solved. Found a fridge that has a height that is just under where that cabinet sits. Worst case, if the fridge is a fraction too tall, I can shift the entire cabinet up and it won’t protrude above the crown at the top.

Thanks for all the responses!

Looking to buy at a steal but Water supply leak and fridge cuts off for 6 hours a day

So I’m looking to purchase a fridge that is used for a very low price, but I am hesitant because a couple of the issues that is having.

Samsung French Door Refrigerator, model RF23M8070SG.

The Problem
The control panel for the middle FlexZone drawer does not light up. Because of this, the fridge's computer messes up and stops cooling for about 6 hours a day, though it cools perfectly fine the other 18 hours.
Allegedly, this is a known issue usually caused by a pinched or loose wire harness in the middle drawer or top hinge?
Could anyone give me more information on this and if that is correct?

Also, as you can see from the photo I posted there is some obvious corrosion where the waterline enters the back of the fridge and I would love to get some input from anyone who has done fridge repair in the past. If I can get this fridge at a decent price it would be a great deal, but I just wanna make sure that I can fix it beforehand or at least reduce my risk as much as possible. The corrosion doesn’t scare me itself. That’s just cosmetic, but obviously there looks to be some type of leakage in the past and if it’s currently leaking, I didn’t know how difficult it would be or if there are common leakage problems like this or if it’s nearly impossible to repair.
