I hate that I even have to preface this because I know some people don’t read before jumping to conclusions, but I’m a good driver. I’m not hogging the left lane, driving below the speed limit, or holding anyone up.

That said, what the fuck is wrong with drivers lately? The amount of unnecessary aggression and impatience is ridiculous.

I’ll be accelerating normally after a light turns green, and someone’s already riding my ass. Or I’ll be driving next to someone who suddenly floors it just to beat me to the next red light. Even better is when I’m in a dedicated turn lane and someone beside me speeds up because they’ve apparently convinced themselves I’m about to cut them off. Dude, relax. Nobody is trying to get in front of you.

Why does everything have to be a competition? And spare me the excuse that everyone’s in a hurry. I refuse to believe this many people are racing against some critical deadline. Most of you are going to Kroger, picking up McDonald’s, or heading home. Congratulations on saving eight seconds, I guess.

My completely unscientific theory is that people’s attention spans and patience are fried. I’m not some boomer blaming everything on social media, but I genuinely wonder if we’ve become so accustomed to instant gratification that even driving at a normal pace feels unbearable. It’s like people constantly need to be getting ahead of something, even when it accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I just don’t understand why so many people are in such a goddamn hurry to get nowhere.

Edit: all these negative comments are typical and echo the exact same sentiment… “I have somewhere to be. Get out of my way. Me. Me. Me.”

Back in 2009, I was up as usual playing games on the 360.

My mom used to work pretty late and come home around 10:30pm.

After a match, I heard something outside my bedroom. I turned to the door, assuming it was my mom letting me know she was home / say goodnight.

But the door didn’t open. I watched the doorknob twist back and forth for a good 10-15 seconds.

I slowly stood up and walked towards the door. I hesitated before opening it, but when I did, nothing was there.

I went downstairs to see if my mom was home, and her car wasn’t in the driveway. My dad was dead asleep already, so I knew it wasn’t him. Even if he wasn’t, that’s not something he’d do.

To this day, I have no explanation.

I knew my registration was coming up and thought I’d log on, pay about $30 (how much it cost me back in ATL) and go about my day.

NOPE. I need to pay $480 due to the stupid tax.

It was good while it lasted.

I’m obviously exaggerating the piece of being THE only one, but the feeling was certainly there.

I was the only Asian kid at my high school. We had around 3k students, which is wild. It’s fascinating to think back on it. I don’t believe it impacted me too much. Though, I do wonder what it would’ve been like to have another Asian classmate as a friend.

At the time, if I ever saw another Asian in town, I’d be weirded out, because I was thinking I was the only one around. In some way, I became territorial/standoffish? I know that sounds odd, but that was my world at the time.

It’s been 15 years since then, and obviously, I don’t feel this way anymore. It’s just interesting to think back on it.

So I WFH, and even though I have all the software and AI solutions I could ever need, there’s just something about writing something down physically.

People hype on Granola, which I do use, but again… if I’m needing to scribble something down, I will.

I had notebooks and sticky notes that sometimes even I don’t even know what is going on.

I purchased the Move a week ago because I’ve been eying it for so long. Figured I’d pull the trigger.

By no means am I a powerful writer like many others here. I don’t write in my job as much as I make it seem. Some days I do, some days I don’t.

I did start to think, “Did I bite off more than I can chew? Should I stick to cheap notebooks and a pen?”

I guess they don’t call it a return policy for no reason, so I gave it a few days.

So far, I’m loving the experience. It’s clean, centralized, and I don’t feel like I’m using it to be performative to justify the purchase. I’m using it as I intended and am getting value.

Sure, it’s one week, but I’m happy. Had to remind myself that if it's doing its job by making life easier, then it's a win.

This will always be an ongoing gripe in sales, but what do you do when the patch you support is genuinely screwed?

95% of the accounts I’m assigned to are in a 3 year hold due to a contract, objectively in a bad place financially where they cannot spend, or are simply not a good fit.

Forget closing on these accounts from a sales perspective, how tf am I supposed to book a meeting?

Your “presence” doesn’t add value. All you’re doing is creating pressure on the seller running the call. It’s micromanaging to the fullest and disrespectful af.

I struggle with deciding whether a purchase would genuinely improve my life or if I just like the idea of becoming someone who would use it.

For example, I WFH and go through paper notebooks somewhat regularly. I prefer writing by hand, but my notes get messy and are difficult to find later. I’ve been considering a dependable e-ink notebook that lets me organize and search my notes, but the one I’m interested in costs around $500.

There's cheaper options, but many reportedly have noticeable writing lag. I know that would frustrate me enough to stop using one, so spending $200-$300 on a compromise could be the bigger waste.

At the same time, I’m not sure I take enough notes to justify the better model. Am I solving a real problem, or imagining that the product will turn me into more of a power user?

I’ve made this mistake before with products that have lots of potential uses, only to realize I wasn’t actually the type of person who needed them. A KitchenAid mixer is a silly example. I think they’re great and want one, but I barely cook anything that requires one.

How do you decide whether something is truly worth buying? Do you buy for your current habits, or is it sometimes reasonable to buy for the habits you want to build?

I used to have folders for specific categories, but even then, I often found myself scrolling to the App Library and searching for apps that I may not use regularly.

Now, I have two pages of my most frequently used apps. Everything else is in my library. No more folders

Flew from LA to ATL this morning.

Got through TSA with zero issues. All I have is a personal item, no carry-on.

Right when they began boarding, they wanted to conduct a random passport/ID check, which slowed the process.

On top of all that, they have more TSA at the entrance of the damn bridge “randomly” pulling ppl aside to investigate their bags. Bro what? Sandra, with a neck pillow, a duffle bag, and a massive suitcase, doesn’t get stopped, but me and my tiny backpack look suspicious?

I was in zone 1. The dude checking my backpack took his sweet fucking time. By the time he was done, zone 4 had begun boarding. Thanks for nothing!

Doesn’t this prove they don’t trust/believe in their own system?

I’m flying into LA for the first time by myself for work. I’ll be here for only 24 hours, but I've been wanting to try a nice KBBQ.

I’ve got 2 nieces, both 5 and 3, who I love as if they’re my own.

Got to spend the day with them yesterday, and while on the car ride home, I got to thinking about these last few years with them. It’s been so cool to see them grow up. Their world is still opening up, which is fascinating to watch. While yes, they’re still young, it really began to put into perspective how fast life can feel sometimes.

No shame in sharing this, but I did tear up a bit thinking about it. I’m sentimental… what can I say? I dread the day that they won’t want to hang with me any longer (I say this with humor)

Even though they’re young, I always remind them that if there’s anything they want to talk about that they don’t want to share with their mom and dad, they can come to me.

With all the construction and the hassle of getting around, why don’t they sell their building?

My theory is that the city offered to buy, First Doctored countered with an obscene number, and the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement.

Now you have this random-ass plot of land for this one single business. It’s pretty ridiculous.

I’ve been out of HS for 14 years now (which feels weird to type out)

I check Facebook like once a year, but when I do, I visit a page with all of my graduating classmates.

Clicking through several profiles, I’m noticing that most, if not all, guys are aging MUCH more than I am. I don’t look like I’m still in HS, but I definitely don’t look like I’m already in my 40s. I’m not saying any of this is from a negative standpoint either. It’s just interesting. I know lifestyle and genetics are the contributing factors.

They look more like an adult than I do.

I’m half white and Asian for context.

Curious how it’s been for you all?

For those of you who marched in an A corps battery, I’m curious how you feel about where the playing ability and writing difficulty have gone from the early 2010s to now.

I marched with an A corps in ’12, ’13, and ’14, and I was thinking recently about how I used to hear Cadets ’06 and think, man, that is about as hard as it gets. And don’t get me wrong, that book is still ridiculous by any standard. But when I watch the lines playing now compared to what felt like the standard back then, it’s honestly wild.

I’m not saying what we played was easy either. It definitely wasn’t. But the vocabulary now feels different. The rhythmic language, the density, the aggression, the amount of control, and the way lines are playing all of that while moving is wild to watch. It doesn’t feel like one sudden jump happened overnight either. It feels more like the activity has just kept pushing forward year after year, and now when you compare the two eras, there’s a pretty obvious gap.

I mean all of that in a good way. It’s cool to see the art form keep evolving, but it also makes me wonder how people who marched in different eras look at it. I suspect a contributing factor would be more access to videos and music via the internet. Back in 07’ when I started learning, YouTube was still new, sharing music was much harder, and opportunities to learn from DCI vets were for the more fortunate. Now you have access to nearly every book ever written, an endless number of videos online to watch, you can download apps to help you practice, and find contacts who’ve marched for lessons, etc. It’s pretty amazing.

For those who marched then, are marching now, teach, write, or have followed the activity closely, what’s your take? Are the books today harder across the board, or just different? Has the baseline playing ability gone up that much? Curious how other people see it.

Literally just signed up for the first time, and while going through the setup, it asks me if I want to sync my contacts. I declined.

It then moves me to another screen of people I know that I could follow.

How does that even work? I literally declined so that it wouldn't sync up any of my contacts.

I like to keep my online presence separate from my actual life, so I’m confused about how it’s even doing that.
