Prism Launcher is a life changer

I tried to update Minecraft and Iris/Sodium 2 days ago, but when I tried opening the launcher, for some reason, it wouldn't open. I didn't know how to fix it, but since I've heard of Prism Launcher being another Minecraft Launcher option, I decided to install it. And it was amazing. Not only did it work immediately, but installing mods straight from the app is very convenient. I was able to quickly install Iris/Sodium (there was just 1 little issue with a version conflict) and my favorite shader packs, and I really love the feature of being able to easily make multiple different instances to make playing with mods much easier. Overall, I love this launcher and more people should definitely be using it.

Designing and 3D printing custom air ducts for my PC

A few months ago, I saw a video by Optimum Tech where he designed and 3D printed custom air ducts for his own PC, and obtained some temperature and noise reductions for it. I was inspired to do the same for my own PC, if not for more performance then for developing 3D modeling skills and for the cool aesthetic. So, I spent months measuring the interior dimensions of my PC (with a ruler and a measuring tape, since I didn't have a caliper) and modeling it in FreeCAD, and spending a very long time figuring out how to make the ducts themselves (I ended up succeeding thanks to Claude AI and the FreeCAD Forum, a special thanks to user papyblaise for their help). Finally, I had made a decent 3D model of the ducts, and all that I needed to do was to 3D print them.

At first, I wanted to use my school technology lab's 3D printer, but it was much too small for the main CPU duct. The 3D printers at my local public library was too expensive to use, so I had to ask my parents for a 3D printer as a birthday gift. This was not only for this project, but also because I had developed an interest in 3D printers in general. My parents agreed, and I acquired a Bambu Lab A1 3D printer. When it first arrived, I had unfortunately made a mistake when assembling it; I hadn't sufficiently tightened a screw, and as such, the printer's Y-axis was stuck. That was a whole debacle on its own, but long story short, I sent the printer back to the manufacturer and got a replacement, which worked perfectly fine.

Finally, I was able to print my designs and assemble them, but that came with a few problems: I had inadvertently made the CPU duct a little too long, and so the first duct didn't fit. I had to edit the model to make it slightly shorter and reprint the whole thing. I was attaching the duct to the fans with the fan screws, but I was only able to tighten 2 of them to the duct because of a lack of space, similarly for the GPU duct. The GPU duct originally had 2 parts, but the second part was too long to be printed and I didn't want to have to glue them together (maybe I'll assemble that part later). The final product was something similar, albeit scrappier, to Optimum's project.

In terms of temperature reductions, you can see my data above: slight reduction of 2C for the CPU temperature, almost no change for the GPU temperature.

In the end, do I recommend that you, the average PC builder, do as I did? Short answer, no. It takes way too much effort for a small difference in temperatures (although maybe my design was flawed). But, it's a fun project if you want to learn 3D modeling and design, and in my opinion, I enjoyed the process overall.

Finally, my first 3D printer has arrived!

2 months ago, my parents bought me a Bambu Lab A1 printer for my birthday. But there was a problem. I hadn't screwed in a base screw all the way, which caused the Y axis to be stuck. I tried everything to fix it, but nothing worked. Finally, I decided to send a message to customer support, but even they couldn't fix the issue (I even disassembled the bottom of the printer, to no avail). In the end, they had me mail the printer back to them for a replacement, and here it is. They were even kind enough to send a free roll of filament (which would be arriving in a few days) and a gift card for the packing fee.

Now, after 2 months of troubleshooting and waiting for a replacement, I've finally obtained my first 3D printer, and it's working just fine. Moral of the story, always tighten your screws.

The poem that inspired Deku's name

In Volume 40, Extra #1, Horikoshi reveals that the name "Deku" was inspired by a poem by Japanese writer Kenji Miyazawa, "Ame ni mo makezu" (Be not Defeated by the Rain), specifically the last 5 verses:

>minna ni deku-no-bō to yobare
homerare mo sezu
ku ni mo sarezu
sō iu mono ni
watashi wa naritai

in English:

>Called useless by all
Neither praised
Nor a bother
Such is the person
I wish to be

The whole poem is very nice, the Wikipedia page has an English translation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ame_ni_mo_makezu

I just learned a while ago that this kid ended up in Deku's class!

I was wondering what happened to that kid after that scene, so I looked him up on the Wiki, and I found out something that I'd never noticed before... this is a really amazing detail.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about MHA?

My favorite: The characterization. Almost all of the 1A students, pro heroes, villains were really memorable and well-characterized. In addition, what I appreciate the most is the fact that Horikoshi doesn't mind writing morally complex characters. We see heroes that aren't entirely heroic (e.g. Katsuki, Endeavor) and villains that aren't entirely villainous (e.g. Himiko, Dabi, Tomura). It's much easier to write purely good or purely evil characters, but giving characters moral nuance makes them seem more human.

My least favorite: Sometimes, the action can feel overwhelming and I sometimes struggle to keep up with the plot or to remember all of the details. But maybe that's just because I read too quickly.

My first piece for an ensemble, Sinfonietta for Wind Instruments

This is just the first movement. I don't have a lot of experience in orchestration or composition in general, but this was fun to write.
