ELI5: If working out is healthy, then why does the brain make up excuses to not do it?

Wouldn’t it be a biological advantage to have your brain stay locked-in for your goals?

Why did the MeToo movement attack pick up artists?

I never saw them do any harm except teach awkward men how to talk to women without being creepy.

Why did this community get attacked by the movement and eventually have most of their media removed from the internet?

I feel like this was a mistake because now this community was replaced by sick people like Andrew Tate and blackpill toxic culture.

Am I wrong to think this?

Why is it after every Big movement becomes famous an opposite movement becomes famous

I noticed this pattern.

Like when the MeToo movement happened and then died down—-> Andrew Tate and black pill stuff

The liberalization movement —-> now Kirk and maga

Is this unique to this century or just part of historical behavior patterns of human population?

Why do governments make stupid financial choices when they hire top talent on merit? Is there some clever reason?

They always spend so much at a net loss. For example, for the tariffs we earned $28 billion in revenue, but the government refunded businesses $33 billion in losses. That’s like an -$5 billion.

You could use that money for so many other things but instead it just got wasted. It just feels like a stupid mistake because they cut so much research, conservation, education funds, and food stamps for this.

Did anyone get more than $15,000 per year for oos merit?

I got my merit bumped to $30,000 and it makes no sense to me because I haven’t seen anyone else get this.

The closest I saw to this amount were the “discho” scholarships where their tier III gets $26,000 per year.

Online in the UD website it was told the max oos anyone can ever get is $15,000 per year and the only way to break this cap is being invited to the discho scholarship weekend.

But I was never invited or was aware of this. I am scared that this was a glitch and my scholarship is taken away. If this is true then I can’t afford UD anymore and have to go somewhere else so please I need someone to clarify.

I am incoming freshman and my class schedule ain’t even out yet and financial service office SUCKS

So I was never even registered into classes and it opens at Aug 10 for me, do I still have to pay my tuition at Aug 1st?

Additionally I have a scholarship which isn’t applied yet and I have to pay full? Why is my scholarship not applied yet? I wouldn’t need to make this if the financial office gave answers to my questions.

It’s very important I know this.

Is Grove City college a good school?

I came across this college and their grads one time and they genuinely swear up and down that this is the best school in Pennsylvania. Talking to them is convincing me that this school is some hidden gem better than UPenn and CMU but didn’t get the same treatment because they are very Christian. I think it’s unfair a school will be ranked very low due to their religious beliefs and lack of openness to other groups. Even if what they say is true, and it is a racist school, I think a school should be evaluated on its academics alone.

Now is all this really true? The 98% placement rate for graduates is a really impressive stat which will make it better than CMU if they also have a median salary to back it up with. I tried looking everywhere for GCC’s Engineering grads average salary, and I couldn’t find it.

I believe if someone finds it, and their engineering grads make at least equal to Penn State’s Enginering then they truly are the best college due to their cost, placement and quality. A true hidden gem.

How is a religion different from a cult? Isn’t a cult just an unsuccessful religion?

Most cults die out or are hunted down and prosecuted by religions. But like didn’t almost every major religion start of as a cult at the beginning and was prosecuted? Then they were successful at gathering people and putting them in government and become kings and have those kings spread their religion even more right?

So how is one different from the other?

Is it a controversial take to say every religious gathering of people is labeled cult until it has enough people in it to be considered a religion?

If companies make money of our data, shouldn’t we get a cut?

I genuinely feel so uncomfortable when there is an data company whose name I don’t even know making a 65 page report on me and selling that info for $$$ and then that cooperation they sold to then pushes ads and does “dynamic pricing” where they charge me more based on “how much I can pay max for an given demand of the item for me”

The idea of an company legit squeezing me even more dry of money while I am already low in money just sucks. Why can’t lawmakers put limits on them or force these companies to be obligated to pay us for data that’s ours? It’s like they come to our lawn and steal our vegetables.

Banks already try their best to squeeze us dry and now supermarkets and big tech companies want to do the same. It genuinely is not ok.

Why I think we face racism

I am gonna make this kinda long and I will apologize if my grammar is horrible (i am writing this on an rush).

Ever since the first time I experienced racism in the US, I was always pondering the question of: “why does this happen? How can an community end it or minimize it without being some kind of sheep and hurting ego?”

I am an FOB who came to America when he was 10 and then lived and finished college here and is now working. All this time I kept wanting to answer this question.

I have read so many human psychology books and this is the conclusion I came to: the main problem for prejudice is how we are portrayed—how we are portrayed is based on stereotypes—and stereotypes are based on the average action an group does.

So what is an average thing that we are doing negatively? It’s our social skills.

The thing is, in Indian families from an young age we are not really taught how to socialize. Meaning we maxed out stats in academic intelligence but not in social intelligence like body language, speech and looking glass effect.

It’s not our parent’s fault because their parents haven’t really emphasized this social intelligence either, they kinda just pressured them to compete and fed them the crush-hook or crook mentality.

With this mentality, it’s no wonder so many desis struggle to connect with people of a different countries. Just imagine that, an minority who outperforms and isn’t charismatic and also very different.

Of course, not all Indians are like this, but most Indians are like this. Even many ABCs and FOBs are like this regardless of whether they grew up in India or not.

I was fortunate enough to change myself after high school and learn to be charismatic and see great success. I noticed that becoming more charismatic led to less racism for me. Even in more racist places like the rural country counties in America , because I mastered my charisma ,I was able to break the ice with these farmers and change how they see Indians.

Thing is there is an narrative written by certain interest groups who have an prejudice and few goals and they also found a way to make money out these goals. They decided to take advantage of an flaw many Indians have and use it to portray us in a negative manner. Most of it works on people who never got to know our good sides.

Now you have read this far, so here is the TLDR on what I said: the solution to ending racism is every Indian person putting effort into building up their charisma in the country they are in.

Thing is charisma is an skill, so with practice anyone can learn it. Because most Indians lack charisma and have few insecurities, by working on overcoming this weakness more Indians can develop an better image for our community. I believe this is the best way to end racism for good and in large scale can benefit more Indians. If the negative stigma barred more Indian growth, then the positive stigma will enable it

Is there a way to make an high nutrient cheap grocery plan?

Assuming you have no dietary restrictions and you are under really tight budget, what can your grocery plan be?

Every person needs protein

I have an technique where I buy whole chickens on bulk and cut them myself — this saves me $3 per pound compared to buying it cut

And leaves me chicken stock for soups.

Are there any similar ways one can procure food and save money?

I want to make sure I live a long life so I can set my family for success so this plan shouldn’t be all instant noodles and should have veggies and meats as much as possible

Even a little scrap snuck in is alright. I can absolutely eat anything with rice and bland flavor.

How does one bridge automation and chemical engineering?

I am an incoming student so all of this new. I am very interested in knowing the how on combining automation, computation and quantitative methods with chemical engineering.

If anyone could refer me to any books or learning resources, that would be nice.

How likely or unlikely is a secretive all controlling shadow deep state?

I know it sounds stupid, but if there was a deep state, how likely is it to exist and what conditions are needed for maintaining it?

Like what are the chances there is an secretive faction controlling the president and having him as an figurehead to take all the blows while you act like imu and control in the shadows

Did your chemE degree give you the roi for $120,176 cost?

I go to a university with very deep connections into chemical engineering and so I choose the major. The reasoning was because I didn’t feel like I could land a job with computers, so I naturally choose the next safest and best fit which is chemE. But I am still wondering if my decision was the right choice. Does anybody working as an chemE right now know if it’s the best choice degree in this context?

I am a first year engineering student so I am not very sure if it’s worth the investment.
