Diarrhea earlier in the day — can I still go for a run?

I have a run scheduled today and I would really rather not skip it. The diarrhea came in kind of suddenly but I feel ok now. Any thoughts? I searched for similar posts but most of them were about diarrhea after running lol

Ezra should have Destiny on the Ezra Klein Show

It's pretty clear to me after Destiny watching Ezra's convo with Chris Rufo that they have a very different perspective about what makes a good conversation with these conservative intellectuals, and given Ezra has one of the biggest liberal platforms on the Internet, it'd be very productive for them to hash out their views and disagreements on how these conversations ought to be had

I think Destiny believes these conversations should be much more adversarial and debate-like in nature. It seems like his main gripe is with how Ezra is happy to let these conservative intellectuals describe how they see things with little or no pushback, except on factual matters and to say "we can agree to disagree". I think Destiny would argue Ezra isn't trying to get them to concede hardly anything, which let's them spin whatever narrative of lies while coming off as knowledgeable, genuine, and good faith.

I imagine Ezra's goal with a lot of these conversations is to keep them more cordial and to understand where his guest's are coming from. Rather than debate, I believe Ezra sees his conversations with conservatives as a good-faith effort to understand their perspectives and offer a critique of their views in a kind and gentle manner. Ezra isn't trying to win, he's trying to understand.

Whatever you think the "right" strategy is to talking with these conservative intellectuals, I think it'd be extremely productive for Ezra and Destiny to have a meta conversation about these podcasts Ezra does with these conservatives. I think both of their strategies have pros and cons, and I'd really like to see the hash out their own views on the matter and grapple with the critiques the other is making.

Regardless of what you think about Destiny or Ezra, I believe they are both committed to liberalism, democracy, and ultimately the success of the Democratic party, even though they may disagree on the best way to achieve that.

Bard OTP here, gotta say playing lux brightens my day

Why can't every champ be so positive?

"The sun is shining; we should too."

"The superior tactic is to never give up."

"Keep believing."

Serious, every time I have to offrole mid, lux brightens my day (pun intended). She is so wholesome and optimistic, I always walk away feeling a bit lighter, win or lose.

I may be bias cause lux was my first main way back in s4, but she is the GOAT in my book.

Runners: has anyone been to Endure TC for a gait analysis? What about ATI?

I saw a PT 1.5yrs ago in Minnesota who said I had a glute imbalance. I've been doing the prescribed exercises since then, but still feel like I may have a muscle imbalance (1/10 minor knee pain from time to time and some hamstring tendonapathy that flairs up after running faster (strides, etc). I see EndureTC offers Gait Analysis for runners plus a follow-up for $200, and I like the idea of seeing a running-specific group (I had a bad experience with a general PT a number of years ago). I also had a consultation with Dina at ATI who seemed very knowledgeable and also does gait analyses for runners, though she said her clients are much more general (not running specific).

So, basically I'm looking for any feedback of EndureTC and ATI, specifically for running-related issues. I'm running Sleeping Bear Dune Marathon October 3rd, and following Pfitz 18/70 for the first time, so want to make sure I'm ok as I continue to ramp up mileage.

Thanks in advance!

Resistance training with increased mileage (pfitz 18/70)

looking for advice/perspective,

i just started pfitz 18/70 marathon plan a few weeks ago. my plan was to lift legs/abs monday/thursday which is rest/easy run days respectively. however today (monday) I was so tired I just took a 2hr nap instead (after sleeping in and only being awake for like 4hrs). Granted I did my 20mi long run a bit harder than I should have because I had to get back for a meetup.

I'm seriously considering going down to just 1x/week during the plan as ill only be adding more mileage in the coming weeks, or maybe a "hard" lift thursday then an "easy" lift saturday, although I'm a bit hesitant to lift the day before a long run. The problem is I just have a hard time seeing myself lifting on days I'm running 10+ miles, which is like 3x a week, and then the weekend long runs also feels like it may need a buffer around it, too.

All that said, I feel like I should be able to lift 2x/week. I've been doing it for a couple years now, and i'm a little concerned I'm just making excuses to not lift 2x/week. The primary reason for lifting is to support my running, so if I end up injured cause I overdid it, that also seems kind of silly, too... my lift days have been fairly comprehensive, about 1hr total including some PT exercises I was prescribed a couple years back.

For completeness, a typical week on pfitz 18/70 looks something like this:

Weeks to goal 14 13 12
Monday Rest or cross-training Rest or cross-training Rest or cross-training
Tuesday General aerobic + speed: 9M w/10x100m strides Lactate threshold: 9M w/4M General aerobic + speed: 8M w/10x100m strides
Wednesday Medium-long run 14M Medium-long run 14M Medium-long run 12M
Thursday Recovery 5M Recovery 5M Recovery 5M
Friday Medium-long run 11M Medium-long run 12M Medium-long run 11M
Saturday Recovery 5M Recovery 5M Recovery 5M
Sunday Medium-long run 18M Long run 20M Medium-long run 14M
Weekly Mileage 62 65 55

How do people race without hydration vests? Srs question

Idk if I just sweat a lot or what, but I can't imagine running a marathon without extra water. The marathon I'm running has 6 water/Gatorade stations. Last marathon I ran I drank my whole camelback and Gatorade at the last station and my mouth was so dry at the end I couldn't get down goldfish with extra water. It was in the 70s when I finished. I ran a 3:40:40 fwiw.

Aside from the extra water itself, I also can't imagine fueling without water after. Doesn't that make you super thirsty?

Even on my 20mi runs lately I find I drink about a whole camelback worth of water. My understanding is you should drink when you're thirsty (sipping ideally) and that's what I try to do.

So for all you running marathons without extra water: how are you doing it? Do you not get that thirsty or do you just tough it out? Are you super dehydrated at the end or do you just not feel like you need that much

Planning my water strategy for next race, so any advice is appreciated!

ETA: my marathon has 6 aid stations, not 4 (I think)

How do I make sure everyone knows to look at my strava activity mile paces (NOT avg pace)?

Problem is I run much I need to do threshold, tempo, etc workouts inbetween easier runs to achieve my enormous weekly volumes, but then my avg paces always looks like trash. For example, my 9mi, 4mi threshold run today I ran 6:30min/mi pace, but with 5mi easy pace I only avg'd 7:45min/mi for the whole run. Everyone knows no one taps activies, they just scroll through and size you up according to your avg pace. So how the fk am I supposed to show everyone I m ALPHA?

Tips on TFL soft tissue mobilization?

After dealing with a glute imbalance over the course of 2 years, I've tried just about everything for soft tissue mobilization: self-massage, professional massage, foam rolling, massage gun, muscle scraping, balls of varying textures and sizes. And after forking over hundreds of dollars, my most effective toy has probably been this cheap $25 muscle scraping kit.

I've gotten pretty good in general at soft tissue mobilization, but for whatever reason, the one area I have NOT had success with besides getting a professional massage are my TFLs. And for whatever reason, my right TFL still gets real tight over time (maybe still overrotating a bit from my previous glute imbalance?). I don't know if its the angle of the professional massage, but I just cannot replicate myself what they do to work my TFL.

I realized tonight I'm basically paying for massages just for them to work my right TFL. I'd really like to find something cheaper that I can do myself to mobilize my TFL, so I'm coming to you all for advice. For anyone whose dealt with TFL issues before: what have you actually found effective? Either particular tools or specific techniques. I've found some "fancier" muscle scrapers (one that heats up, a "bow" for larger muscles, etc), but I can't feel like the juice won't be worth the squeeze, though tbh for the price of a couple massages maybe I should just buy them and try it out..

Anyways, thanks in advance! Hoping to glean something from ya'lls collective wisdom

ETA: my strength routine is fairly comprehensive, but given this seems like a recurring issue let me know if I'm missing something (2x/week, 4 sets to failure). The last 3 are what my PT prescribed 1.5yrs ago for my glute medius imbalance:

  • BSS
  • Calf raises
  • Hamstring curls
  • Coppenhagen adductors
  • Leg lifts (abs)
  • Lunges
  • Tib bar raises
  • Banded lateral walks
  • Banded monster walks
  • This curtsy motion on a box

Training plan: Any reason not to extend the first few long runs?

I just started Pfitz 18/70 this week. I've been running 50-60 miles the last 5-6 months with a 20 mile run 3/4 weekends (step back weeks have been shorter). The first 5 long runs are 15, 17, 15, 18 then 20. I'm wondering if it'd be better to make at least a couple of those runs 20 miles as to not regress too much on the endurance front. I know it might not seem like much but tbh it'll feel weird not running 20 miles for over a month now that I've gotten used to it.

So should I stick to the plan or up a few of the initial long runs until the mileage and long runs increase? Thanks in advance!

I'm glad we don't tolerate sexist posts here

TLDR: I don't like sexism. DGG is not sexist. yay.

Let me start by saying I define sexism something like "prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination on the basis of sex or gender".

Seems kinda crazy to say this, but I'm always surprised at how much sexism I see online that is not only tolerated, but upvoted, on reddit. Even though DGG is a male-dominated space, I've been pleasantly surprised over the last few years here at how I've seen literally ZERO sexism coming from DGG (im sure some ppl could find an example or two, but that's just my experience).

I was surprised the first time I actually heard people like Myron Gaines and Nick Fuentes speak. I knew some of the sexist things boys would say about women because I grew up a boy in the 90s, but my perception of it at least was it was mostly "under wraps"; basically no one I knew was openly sexist in public or with women unless it was obvious joking. So it felt like on another level when I heard these sorts of manosphere influencers be so openly sexist in an obviously non-joking way. But its not just in the manosphere right I see sexism.

Sometimes my SO will hop onto my reddit account and for a while I'll see posts from subreddits she peruses. Lately its been this subreddit GirlDinnerDiaries and to be frank, I've been surprised at just how many of the posts are sexist AND highly upvoted. I'm sure some people might dismiss this simply as "girl talk" or whatever, but at least according to the definition of sexism above, its pretty clearly sexism. For example, typing in "men" into the search of GirlDinnerDiaries yields these top 3 search results:

* TALKING TO MEN HAS GENUINELY MOVED FROM IRRITATING TO MAKING ME ALMOST WANNA THROW UP (342 upvotes)
* men are just so unimpressive (1.4k upvotes)
* DO MEN EVEN UNDERSTAND THEMSELVES??? From where do they get this confidence (119 upvotes)

Note this is not unique to GirlDinnerDiaries and tbf I don't consider them the worst offenders of this sort of thing, its just the thing that's been "recommended" in my feed recently.

Sexism towards men has always felt different (NOT worse, just different!) to me than the right wing sexism towards women. I think its because I associate it much more with left-wing people (women but also men) and because I'm a liberal it feelsbadman hearing "my side" be sexist. Or maybe it feels weird cause it seems more "culturally acceptable" than being sexist towards women, though my guess is that's partially because of the liberal spaces I frequent (if i was a die-hard Fuentes fan I imagine sexism towards women would feel a whole lot more acceptable, too). And I'm sure some contemptful (in my mind) would say its cause I'm a man and now I'm finally just getting a flavor of what women experience all the time (though I'd obviously dispute that's the case).

Anyways, all this is to say I'm just glad DGG doesn't tolerate sexism even in a joking way and even though we're such a male-dominated space. It'd be easy to tolerate sexism, especially under the guise of something like "joking" or "just venting" or whatever. IMO DGG is one of the few positive, prosocial, male-dominated spaces on the internet.

Coppenhagen plank

Video is last set of each leg. Looking for feedback on form, any imbalances, and any suggestions for increasing difficulty if you think I should increase difficulty. My right hip adductor near my groin usually is the limiting factor, I don't feel the same problem on my left; mostly just get really wobbly and tired all over.

Bulgarian split squats: different feel left vs right?

Attached end of last set on left leg, beginning of last set on right leg,

My PT diagnosed me with a glute medius imbalance a yr ago (stronger right glute med) and I did exercises to correct it. BSS and single leg RDLs still feel different per leg though.

In the case of BSS, my left leg I feel it more around my outside glute. On my right leg, sometimes I feel it around my outside glutes, but oftentimes I feel it very strongly in my right quad. My best guess is for whatever reason I have an easier time "settling in" on my left leg than right leg. I feel more wobbly on my right leg, and a harder time finding where my pelvis and leg should sit when I come up, if that makes sense.

Primarily looking for what might be going differently, and how I can go about correcting it.

Fwiw: I'm pretty sure the top of my right hamstring has limited range of motion, which has been making single leg RDLs difficult...

Thanks in advance
