Hey all, I recently changed the 5654 JAN's in my pre-amp for some Voskhod 6J1P's and love the new upgrade. What are some other tubes that work great in this system that would change the sound even more and what is your favourite tube in your system?
Hey all, I'm going to have some time on my hands soon and want to attempt to make a custom wooden headphone stand. Now my headphones all live in their hardcases but I want to make a stand to put the one i'm currently using on, so mostly my Meze Silva's will be on it (thus the idea of using wood for it but i'm also open to implementing metal). I have quite alot of tools from routers to bandsaws etc etc, I also have a lathe so I have quite alot of options. Before I start I first need to have a good design which, I have to admit, is not my strongest skill. That's why i'm asking all you nice people from r/headphones, Please if you have a good idea, share it! Nothing is too crazy and most things can be made. I would love to be able to work on a project that's inspired by this community.

I would love to read any and all ideas in the comments!

Thank you!!

Hey folks, I want to try to get a chat going for a change! My question to you all is, since you went down this Rabbit Hole, are you listening to music, or to your gear? It'll go first, Lately it's starting to go back to listening to music again because I have found my "one". But before that all I ever could talk about "Listen to how good these Focal's/Sennheisers/neumann's/whatever sound" and now it's going back to "Listen to how good this song is". Oh you're wondering what my "one" is? Meze Silva's through a tube amp. They have made me start collecting music again and *enjoying* music again instead of listening to the problems in my gear. They did show me the slight high frequency loss in my right ear (early stages of shooters ear probably, common problem in my sport). Some music I have found again and am in love with is songs like "Long road out of Eden by the Eagles" which i'm listening to while typing this post but also alot of Jazz/soul music with close intimate female vocals and TOOL (yes I do indeed listen to pretty much everything hahah). I'm listening mostly to Tidal now but also have found the love again for my records and now can finally just enjoy putting on a record and sitting back in my Herman Miller with something cold to drink.
Soooo, Let's hear it! What are your opinions and what are your experiences? Love to hear everything about it!
I have found like 4 different cover artwork versions of this album on vinyl, Please someone tell me which one is the correct one for the Chris Bellman mastered Fear Inoculum album.
Thanks alot.
Added the product photo since my lighting sucks right now and in the sun/better lighting it looks alot better and just like the product photo.
It's hanging off of a solid 5mm 24 inch 925 rope and it is made from solid 925 aswell.
Listening to it through my headphones and tube amp, it's so nice and warm, it feels like a soft blanket of sound, its very relaxing, big recommendation if you want to relax for a bit.
Finally got my new "budget" tube headphone amp in today, a Fosi GR70, currently playing through my Meze Silva's playing from Tidal fed from the record out of my Marantz amp.
I have to say, this thing sounds surprisingly good, Full and clear yet also relaxed, I can easily put on an album and just sit back and go do other things or even just close my eyes and relax with the music without becoming "focussed" on it, it's really nice!
Tell me, what do you think about tube amps and whats your experience with them?
Bonus question, what headphones do you like best on tube amps?
Went to my local (1 hour drive, not exactly "local" but it is a local kind of hifi shop, just one that has million dollar Focal's and Bowers and Wilkins and Sonus Fabers just sitting around) hifi shop to try out the Meze 105 AER (€300/~350USD) , However when waiting for a clerk to get them I saw these 105 Silva's (€500/~580USD) on a stand and decided to do them head to head to hear the difference. He set up a Naim Uniti Atom and an iPad with Tidal for me and gave me the room with a comfy couch for as long as I needed, I tested these head to head with various kinds of music, everything from Ludovico Einaudi to Billy Joel to Alan Jackson to we are the fallen to whatever else to really get a good impression of these headphones.
Now a little backstory, the reason I went down the "I want a new pair of headphones" Rabbit Hole was because my daily drivers were getting a bit boring (Senny HD600 and Focal Elegia) and I saw the Hifiman HE400SE for sale on aliexpress, from there on I saw how much better the Edition XS We're supposed to be and then I remembered I really liked the look of some Meze 99's I saw once but remembered I didnt like it's pleather earpads so decided to look if they released something new.. that's when I saw the 105 Aer's, they were alot more expensive than the Hifiman's but reviews looked promising. I had a day off today so went to that hifi store and the rest is history. Strange how a sale on a 140 euro pair of headphones can suddenly lead to a 500 euro purchase of some of the most gorgeous and most comfortable headphones i've ever seen and felt.
Now, on to sound, Why did I choose the Silva's at almost double the price over the Aer's. First thing I noticed with the Aer's is that It's rather dark but still sibilant, I'm really sensitive to sibilance so I picked up on this quickly, it also didn't sound very "real" but did sound quite relaxed. It was extremely comfortable tho, the headband and earpads are perfect and it weighs practically nothing. Then I switched to the Silva's and something happened when I heard a Saxophone on "Your latest trick" from dIRE sTRAITS, It sounded like it was there, I could envision the Brass and it was like the Sax was right there shooting into my ear, better than even my Focal speakers do (that cost alot more), I quickly put on a song that I know is sibilant (We are the fallen - Sleep well my angel) and it did better on the sibilance than even my Focal speakers do, the Aer however really was struggling with the female vocal, the Silva did it effortlessly. Then I went onto "scenes of an Italian restaurant - Billy Joel" and I found myself smiling with the Silva's on, I rarely ever smile while listening to music but this time I was giggling like an idiot, The sound was all over and around me, it pulled me in and kept me there, it was tight, controlled and made me forget that I was listening to a piece of gear but instead made me listen to the music. To summon things up, I think what I said last there is the most important thing that I got from the Silva's that I just could not get from the Aer's. The Silva's allowed me to forget them, both sound wise and comfort wise, the Aer's could only do the comfort part. The Aer's are fine sounding headphones, Infact they sound great, but the Silva's are at the level where you finally start listening to the music again instead of listening to the gear, and that, that made me smile, it made me want to race home to my LP's and try out new albums I still haven't got around to listening to. The Silva's made me smile.
And all else is history!
If you made it this far, thanks for sticking around! Have an amazing rest of your day or night and enjoy your gear, but even more important, enjoy your music! See ya'll soon when my tube amp arrives supposedly tomorrow hahah.
After wearing a cheaper Seiko Chrono (picture 2) for years I finally pulled the trigger and bought a "nice" watch today. I walked into the jeweler and initially went for a deep blue simple "no complications" cocktail (that was admittedly half the price) but while waiting my eye got caught on this one, fell in love with it and bought it, was in and out in maybe 10 minutes total. It's a Seiko Presage Cocktail Time "Skydiving" or Ref: SSA343J1, features a power reserve meter and it has an "Ice Blue" Cocktail dial, the picture absolutely does not do it justice at all because this thing is gorgeous Irl. Absolutely love this watch and i'm hoping it will be by my side for many more years to come.
Second picture is my previous Seiko which will now become my work watch, which is a Seiko SSB301P1.
Glad I could share my new watch and please show me your favourite Seiko in the comments if you can!
Hey folks, I'm thinking about building an NV1010 driven flashlight, for a host i'm thinking about going with a Convoy L21A however I can't find any powerful enough drivers, Convoy's drivers only go upto 20A and the only other High A driver I've found was from Mountain electronics (FET+7135) but to get that shipped to me costs more than double what the driver costs (total would be over 40 bucks) which is a little more than i'm willing to spend on it especially since 70% of that money is shipping cost. What would be a good driver that's over 20A, 22mm in size and 3 Volts to run an NV1010?
Thanks!
Video is by no means perfect, Infact it has alot of faults in it since I was rushing (I shot this in about 25 minutes, basically as long as my 3 battery's lasted and most of that time was talking about the drone to others around me and getting that fly through shot) since it was very windy and I had to get back to work. Still happy enough with it to share it tho!
Video is made in Charleroi, edited on my phone.
Put an SFT-42R with a 3V 8A driver into my Brass T6 today and a bigger OP reflector. Tried to make a beamshot inside but the phone messes it up, will get some proper beans soon.
Used to have an SST-20DR inside with the low amp driver, which I have to say, Is an amazing led but it didnt get used enough since there are already red led's in my OLights.
Very happy with how it came out, especially since it's only about 15 minutes of work.
Didnt take a picture of my soldering job but it went pretty well, Used a brand new soldering iron so it was easy to get it to the right heat, lovely shiny solder points.
Convoy Brass T6 that I built a different driver and LED into (3V 8A driver with an SFT-42R) and my Buck 110 as the "dedicated" part of the EDC and my car keys plus the Spyderco Bug, Olight iXV and a Cartoni Screwdriver as the regular EDC that I already always have with me.
New Knifes day!
Picture 1: Victorinox Hunter "Stroopwafel" edition (syrup waffle) and yes, the scales are textured!
Picture 2 - 4:
Spyderco Bug Nickel Silver Abalone with custom engraving. This thing really surprised me, it looks much better in person and it's very sturdy and well made, the lock is tight and the blade is actually super sharp, Happily surprised by it!
Pictured:
Cartoni 1/4" and 3/8" screwdriver
Olight iXV
Car
And my new addition, a Spyderco Bug Abalone!
This thing is ridiculously well built and looks amazing, the photos dont do it justice at all!
Just wanted to share my new little bug, thanks!
What I mean with this is: are there any knife brands you know off that offer extreme customisation options, lots of different models and have relatively sharp prices?
Bonus question, what's your favourite "Weird" knife you have?
Would love to hear it!
