Why is the US lagging behind other high income countries in math?

If we look at PISA scores, the US is 9th globally in reading and 16th in science. But when it comes to math, the US is all the way down at 34th. What's the reason behind this?

Certifications in the UK are automatic, whereas in the US artists/labels to pay the RIAA to update certifications, hence "eligible certifications".
