Need Advice from People Who've Had ACDF

Hello 👋

I have Cervical cord compression, and my neurosurgeon has recommended ACDF surgery.

I'm feeling pretty anxious, especially about the risk of adjacent segment disease (ASD). I've read a lot about it online, and it's honestly making me nervous.

If you've had ACDF, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience.

- How was your recovery?

- How long did it take before you started feeling better?

- Did your symptoms improve after surgery?

- Have you developed ASD or any other long-term complications? If so, how long after your surgery?

- Is there anything you wish you had known before having ACDF?

I'm trying to make the best decision possible, and hearing real experiences from people who've been through it would really help.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Anyone with Pott's spine and spinal fusion? Still having pain after healing.

My sister had spinal TB (Pott's spine) and had D10 to L1 spinal fusion with pedicle screw fixation in August 2024. Her recent MRI shows the infection is completely healed. There is no abscess or spinal cord compression.

But she still has back pain, stiffness, and tightness, especially when sitting, bending, standing for a long time, or cooking. Her MRI also shows mild disc bulges in her lower back and neck.

Did anyone have similar back pain or stiffness after spinal fusion surgery. How long did it last? Did anything help?

Doctors Say No Significant Lumbar Nerve Compression, So What's Causing These Symptoms?

For the last couple of months, I've had constant numbness (not completely numb), burning, tingling, and pain starting from my lower back and going down my left leg. I also feel it in my groin area, left inner thigh, and private parts.

The burning and pain get worse when the area is touched or even when I'm washing with water.

A few months ago, I had trouble peeing and had to push to get urine out. I also had a burning sensation when I peed. After taking the medications my doctor prescribed, it got a lot better, and the burning while peeing has mostly improved.

Around the same time, I also had some balance issues while walking, but that improved with medication too.

The burning and pain in my private area gradually got worse over about a month and have stayed about the same since then.

I don't have any swelling, discharge, or fever.

My urine stream feels weaker than normal.

I also don't get morning erections anymore. I notice more burning during erections.

Sometimes I have semen discharge during sleep, and the burning gets worse afterward.

I have spinal cord compression at C4-C5 in my neck from bone spurs and a bulging disc. I also have multiple disc bulges in my neck and lower back. However, my lumbar MRI report says there isn't any significant nerve compression.

I'm currently taking prescribed medications and have a neurosurgeon appointment next month.

Could these symptoms be related to my spine or nerve issues?

Women in your late 20s or early 30s, what qualities do you value most in a life partner? I'm asking as a man and genuinely curious to understand what matters most to women at this stage of life.

If you're married, did your husband match what you were looking for, or did your expectations change over

I'm asking as a man and genuinely curious to understand what matters most to women at this stage of life. If you're married, did your husband match what you were looking for, or did your expectations change over?

Edit: Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts. Just to clarify, I wasn't asking this question because I'm looking to change who I am or follow a checklist. I was simply curious to hear different perspectives on what women in their 30s value most in a life partner. I appreciate everyone who took the time to share their experiences and viewpoints.

Cervical Myelopathy or Something Else? Persistent Genital, Groin, and Urinary Symptoms

Hello 👋

I have been diagnosed with spinal cord compression at C4 C5 with signs suggestive of cervical myelopathy. I also have mild disc bulges at C3 C4 and C5 C6. On further review, my neurosurgeon mentioned additional disc bulges at L4 L5 and L5 S1 along with age related degenerative changes in both my neck and lower back.

My symptoms include:

• Mild imbalance while walking

• Stiffness in both legs while walking

• Heavy or muddy sensation in both feet

• Tingling and burning mainly on the left side of my body

• Pain, tingling, and burning in my left leg, including the inner thigh, groin, buttock, hip, calf, knee, foot, and extending down the back and side of the leg

• Symptoms worsening after sitting for around 20 minutes

• Tingling and burning in the groin, genital, and perineal area with increased sensitivity

• Electric shock sensations in both arms and fingers when turning my head while sleeping..But its improved after medications

• Burning pain during urination

• Earlier difficulty and straining during urination, which improved after starting medication

• Ongoing burning sensation while urinating

• Sharp pin like pain at the urethral opening and genital area, especially when touching the penis

• Increased sensitivity, tingling, and burning in the groin and perineal region

• Occasionally, the groin and pelvic symptoms become stronger and seem to spread along nerve pathways

• Both feet feel dull, heavy, and muddy

I recently saw my neurosurgeon again for a follow up. He examined me and said that my reflexes still suggest spinal cord compression. He prescribed medication for nerve pain and advised me to continue treatment and monitor my symptoms for another month to see how much improvement occurs...

My walking balance has improved compared to before, and urination is easier than it was initially. However, the burning during urination, pin like pain in the genital area, and tingling and burning sensations in the groin and pelvic region are still present.

My question is...

Can cervical myelopathy alone explain all of these symptoms, especially the urinary, genital, groin, and perineal symptoms? Or does it sound like there could also be involvement of lumbar nerves, pelvic nerves, or a separate urological issue?

Thank you for any insights

Does anyone else experience this?

I'm 30, and I've never had a very large circle of friends, even since childhood. Over the years, that small circle has gradually faded, and I feel like my friend circle keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Sometimes I enjoy being alone and find peace in it. Other times, I feel lonely and miss having close connections.

The one thing I'm truly grateful for is that I still have a few loved ones in my life. They stay with me, show genuine love, and expect nothing in return. I pray that they will always be with me, and that I'll always be there for them too.

Does anyone else feel this way?
