And This Too Shall Pass By E Lynn Harris Is A Very Thought provoking Book Post Metoo Movement

So I decided to start reading some of the authors who were regularly read by my aunts and mom and E Lynn Harris is one of those authors.

I saw this book at a local bookstore for only $3 and i decided to read it. The is 30 years old and when you read it you can tell its from the 90s.

The plot is simple a football player in chitown is confused about whether he is gay or straight and has trauma from his gay twin brother dying of HIV so he decides to be celibate.

He is accussed of assault by a young attractive female reporter who he curved and a gay sportswriter and a female lawyer trying to rise up at her law firm support him even though it gets messy.

The main cast is black and I must say the fact that the accusser is a black woman was a smart choice as it does make the reader think about toxic masculinity in sports, consent, slut shaming, and yes the believe all women.

i dont want to give the ending away but If this book came out today rather then 1996 I think the ending would be drastically different as we are in the post me too movement.

I do love that Harris made the sportwriter openly gay and openly atheist and explored the dynamics of black gay and straight men. I also applaud Harris for having a women grapple with believing women and being a feminist all while defending a man who is accused of assault.

I highly recommend this book

Unpopular Opinion: The Double Standards people have Towards Meg Music But Embracing Spend Dat By Young Miami Is Ridiculous

While I do not think celebs need to be role models or have to make kid friendly music I find it very funny that the people who come at meg for her lyrics and say she is misleading young black woman are the same ones who have made Spend Dat By Young Miami the song of the summer.

I mean I have seen people play that song at college, highschool.and even eighth grade graduations and at weddings also even though the song about tricking and scamming two topics people claim they are tired of hearing from female rappers.

I also find it funny how young miami is defended as people have been going off on india Arie for at least being consistent with the fact she thought the song was negative but no one defends meg or the other rap girlies even though they have not had as many controversies as young Miami.

I dont hate the song and I dont think celebs have 2 be role models but the hypocrisy is what i hate especially when people come at Meg for everything from lawsuits to twerkign to her lyrics but again young miami been doing the same thing since 2017 damn near a decade and the culture not only forgave her but actually made this song a summer hit.

India Arie Calls Out BET For Platforming Young Miami. Does She Have A Point?

Imma say this i dont mind the spend dat song and yes it is a hit and prolly the song of the summer but I will say my issue personally is the hypocrisy cause for three years I have heard everyone say they are tired of female rappers discussing the same topics(money, men, and sex) and I seen people use this against card, meg, glo, even nicki but everyone and their mama seems 2 love this song when its in that same category.

I also dont like the hypocrisy around protect woman cause Lizzo was essentially cancelled after her lawsuit drama yet young miami is forgiven even though she is name din two of Diddy lawsuits.

Unpopular Opinion: There Are Legitimate issues Around Immigrants And Assimilation However These Culture War BS Has taken All Nuances Out Of The debate.

The US, The UK, France, and now SA are dealing with issues and xenophobic rhetoric concerning immigrants be they illegal or legal.

If we were living in logical times I feel there could be a conversation had around the issues with the immigration system and assimilation.

By assimilation I am not talking bout people disregarding their religion or culture but realizing that the place they have chosen to move to has rules and its own culture and the rules of your homeland probably wont fly where you immigrated.

I have watched some African news shows concerning the situation in SA and some takeaways I have are

  1. it seems the issue is corrupt politicians are purposely keeping their citizens in poverty and a lot of SA's are feeling like immigrants are getting the better end of the stick.

  2. There have been publicly scandals around food markets owned by Somalians and Ethiopians as the food apparently not getting tested and people have gotten sick . This has caused massive backlash an politicians are blaming immigrants to keep the heat off themselves.

  3. There seems to be a fear of muslims coming into SA. From some of these new shows I seen a lot of SA lgbt and feminist activist seem scared of Nigerians because of the Nigerian government and culture around issues like lgbt rights and feminism. There has been issues around gay pride events and members of the lgbt community getting harassed by muslims. This is what lead a lot of lgbt people to right wing movements in the US,The UK, and France.

  4. The biggest takeaway is SA reputation has been ruined probably for a generation as the rest of the continent is disgusted with South Africa (judging by the reaction to SA loosing the world cup thats true) . This is also true of the US and The UK.

With the supreme court upholding birthright citzenship people should not engage in culture war battles around this (arguing over a superbowl,or a commercial in a non english language) but I think there does need to be a conversation around antiblackness, homophobia, and religous supremacy which have caused tension.

I hope SA does get it together cause they could end up like the UK which let a culture war battle over immigration make them have Brexit which destroyed the country a decade later.

I Had No Idea Jesse Jackson tried To Get Disco Kicked Off The radio

I saw this article about Jesse Jackson trying to blame teen problems on the rise of disco music and trying to get disco banned from radio.

I think there needs to be a miniseries or movie made about this time period cause even though people associate the 70 with disco music the more I rea don this period disco really use to be a controversial genre in both the white and black communities.

I really think men like jesse were upset because disco preached female liberation and female empowerement and disco overtook the pick me anthems of Aretha, betty wright and Gladys Knight which preached submissive and struggle love.

The DL Whisperer Is The Product of Pick Me Culture

The DL whisper is out of jail after harassing TS madison and I see it has caused some controversy and his "supporters are back again"

In my honest opinion the dl whisper himself deals with dl men and he is never picked and he does what he does because he is mad he doe snot get picked.

The shade room is messy asf but they did a good thing with this interview and commentary cause the dl whsiper built a platform base doff the homophobia and stereotypes some black women have and he capitalized on the growing antitrans movement and the controversies surrounding black bisexual men.

He constantly attacks transwoman and bisexual men which I think is because men like him usually are competing with transwoman for dl ninjas. i seen it myself personally how some fem gay men talk about trans women.

This is why therapy is needed and also why this pick me culture that i am noticing is being pushed on the black gay community with these dating channels and gay alpha channels is dangerous.

The Dl Whisperer Is A Symptom Of Internalized Homophobia And Insecurities

I been seeing a lot of discourse about the DL whisperer who got released from jail after stalking and harassing ts madison.

First off shout out DyQuelle Dontae for making this video cause he hit it right on the nail: The DL whisperer got popular because he confirmed a lot of antilgbt sterotypes that some black woman hold such as trans women are pretenders or that bisexual men are evil.

I watched one video of him and the man legit has such a problem with inner homophobia . The stuff he calls men dl for such as wearing designer clothes, listening to female singers, he even said if a man gets a certain college degree he is dl.

I think he himself messes with dl men and he is always left and never chosen so he does stuff like this and I do think in some spaces men like the dl whisper and transwomen are competing for some of these dl men.

However he did not understand that he is nothing but a court jester cause when he got locked up not one of these women who love him did anything for him.
