Dear Professors, respond to your fucking emails!!

I get it, you get a gazillion emails a day, you teach, you do research, BUT REPLYING A MONTH LATER/NEVER IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

Im an incoming grad student and i reached out to work with a prof in May, he was willing to meet with me and we wrote out my thesis. Originally, it took him until June to give me the edits back, which fine, no big deal.

Here’s the issue, you need a signature to begin working under someone, and I have not been able to get in touch with him about the signature. I’ve emailed July-August, until TODAY, and the most i’ve gotten back is a thumbs up reaction or a “thanks for catching that error!” and no signature. the semester starts on monday.

if i can’t start in this lab this semester, it’s going to delay my graduation by a semester (trying to finish in 1.5 years for my masters bc of money). I emailed my advisor, because she’s one of the program directors. I asked when her office hours were and she said to just email her my questions. I did. A week ago. NOTHING.

at this point, i don’t know what to do or who to go to. Ive gone over the potential mentor’s head to my advisor. i went over HER head to the program coordinator and the coordinator did nothing. I’m out of ideas.

Vet told me today that my dog only has about 1-2 weeks left. I don't know how to cope.

(20F) took my childhood shih tzu (14M) in to the vet today and got terrible news. His liver levels are 30x what they should be, and he has multiple organ inflammation, and she said she'd be pleasantly surprised if he lived beyond that. I'm devastated. He was fine just a few weeks ago. I was so heartbroken I had to call my mom to finish the vet appointment. I don't know what to do or how to go on. How do people handle losing their dogs?

My dad tried blocking my dog from getting upstairs with chairs so he could go to the store. This is what he came back to.

I have it all yet I have nothing.

I’m fortunate enough to have parents with money and for that I will forever be grateful, I must start with that.

But it’s getting tough. I (20F) started taking community college classes at 15 per my dad’s request, and fast forward, I had enough credits to finish college from a T50 at 19. Yay.

I have it all, and I don’t. Because I left high school early, it caused some issues with my high school friends. One group completely decided to ghost me over N (were using initials), not believing she bullied me, so I spent a lot of time alone or at the rival school with my friends over there. Fast forward to now: I came back from college. I didn’t make/keep many friends in college, as I was 17 when I got to campus and they were all old enough to go out or to bars.

My high school friends from the rival school (X, and F) are closer than me since I left, I get that. So I end up third wheeling the friendship, something something duo in a trio. I try to get either of them individually? There’s a boyfriend in the mix. I tried to hit up someone who I thought was a friend, A, and they responded with “whose number is this?” so that stung I had them saved in my phone and they didn’t.

I spend a lot of time at home in my room. My parents both think it’s weird: I have a car, money, I’m in grad school, and I don’t do anything or go anywhere with anyone. I don’t know how to explain that I fucked up both of my social circles. This is something I just have to live with. I can’t reignite old connections anymore. I’m not quite sure what to do.

I’m 20, and I have alport syndrome with X linked COL4A5 mutation. What does this mean for me?

If anyone in here has a similar genetic composition, I’d love to know. I’m a microbiologist and I’m just now getting copies of my genetic testing from my secretive parents.

Moving back in with my parents 🫠

I’ll start this off with I (20F) finished college at 19, having been pushed to start classes at 15. i’m now 20 and in my masters program for microbiology, and already my dad asked me about getting a full time industry job on top of that. Not only ask, but demand I be on Handshake, Linkedin, and Indeed, stating how much time i’ll have in my first semester.

Ive also been a huge collector—legos, ducks, funko pops, you name it. And i have to figure out how to store or get rid of it all because he said i’m a young woman now and it’s clutter, and it’s trapping me.

The last straw was my weight. Ive picked up weight in college for a multitude of reasons, and they won’t fucking shut up about it. Yes! I know I’m fat! Im not fat and blind, I’ve got a pretty good glasses prescription! Stop buying me smaller clothes so I can work on fitting into them! Fuck!

Is this what living with them through my masters and PhD going to be like???

Fellow gals what do yall do when you need a win in life?

It’s been a hell year for me. I got denied from all PhD programs, so I had to pivot. I made a tiny mistake as a TA and was threatened and fired. I got a really cool internship, but at the same time, got dumped, and am down $5,000 in the hole.

Genuinely needing a win so bad this year. what do yall do when you need a win?

JUST BECAUSE IM SINGLE DOES NOT MEAN I WANT TO SIT AT THE BAR!!!!

This is a HUGE gripe I have. I (20F) am single and just moved to a new city, and I’ve been eager to get out more and try new things.

Every fucking time I go to a restaurant and say just me, I get a weird look. Then ”just you? No one else? No other guests? Can you sit at the bar?” And I say no, primarily because i can’t/don’t drink and don’t want to watch whatever sport is on. I just want to eat in peace. And they CONTINUOUSLY TRY TO STEER ME TOWARDS THE BAR. I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER AND I WANT A TABLE!

Potentially want to be a professor one day, or a high level researcher in the field. Are tattoos okay?

Question is as above. I have 11 tattoos, 6 on my arms combined, one hidden thats on my chest, and three on my ankles combined. will this keep me from getting a job? I’m also a black woman with dreadlocks…

Premeds (derogatory)

UghhhhhhhhhhhhhhOHMYFUCKINGGODIHATEPREMEDS!!!!!

YES, ALL OF YOU. YOURE ALL A BUNCH OF TRANSACTIONAL LITTLE FUCKS AND BECAUSE I MAJORED IN BIOCHEM BUT CHOSE TO GO THE PHD ROUTE YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO GO “was your GPA not high enough for medical school” I WILL LAY YOU THE FUCK OUT.

Okay. I’m calmer. But god it’s just the entitlement, the demanding attitude, the lack of manners that get to me. I remember getting an 80 on a test and this guy going “oh, what would your parents think of that” DAWG? THEY DON’T CARE??

And the NERVE of the amount of people who have the audacity to slither into my LinkedIn DMs asking “oh how did you get that internship? What did you do? What did you say in your application?” Please fuck right off and do it yourself. I’m not your key to getting into medical school. LEAVE ME AND MY CANCER RESEARCH OUT OF YOUR TRANSACTIONAL HEARTLESS WARPATH TO MEDICAL SCHOOL.

Am I going to like it, hate it, or love it?

I recently got a fellowship at Oak Ridge, so I'm choosing to stay in Knoxville from May-August. I've never been, let alone ever been to Tennesee, and I'm not sure what the scene is like there as I've only heard mixed things. For context I'm a lesbian black woman with a chemical and data analysis background, I'm pretty introverted, I like to hike and build legos. Will I like it, hate it, or love it?
