It's funny being a sort of new fan who mostly likes the post AM era

It really is. Essentially every single list or discussion of the band dismisses my favourite era. I'm not a huge punk rock fan, so there old stuff (although I do find things to like about it) just isn't for me.

Yes, the songs are less punchy but I like them for how dreamy and meandering they sound. And that jazz/soul fusion sound just works perfectly with Alex Turner's voice.

It's a great transition into something that was bound to alienate fans and, honestly, how cool is that?

It's been said to death, but the abbey road medley is the most exciting culmination of a career in all of music

Those last 15 minutes or so is, I think, a litmus test for if someone is actually a lover of music or not. It has everything you'd want in a song. Peace, grit. Soul, rhythm and just a pure love for what it's accomplishing.

The only song I can consider comparable is either dogs by pink or sheep (pink floyd- animals)

Is it misogynistic, as a man, to assume that women find it easier to form connections and make friends?

Everything the male loneliness epidemic comes up I usually hear the response "everyone experiences loneliness," but I sort of disagree with that premise.

Maybe they're more quantity over quality friendships, but the women experience just seems to be more socially connected and exciting.

Im sort of jealous honestly

How can I go from casual chat to actual male friendship?

I'm in between jobs at the moment and all I have is time. It would be nice to spend some of it talking about interests etc with friends but I don't really have any.

I need people now and then that I feel I can connect with but I struggle to transition things from interesting stranger to friend.

Any advice?

Would I be right in saying that Zappa's early work (60s) isn't necessarily meant to be enjoyed in the traditional sense?

I've listened to most of Zappa's 60s work and sort of struggle to enjoy any of it in the conventional sense. I respect what's it's doing (a liberated approach to music that is almost basking in its raw musicality), but it's all too untamed sounding.

I'm really happy with the happy medium that frank found in the 70s

For CD collectors, do you consider some albums especially hard to find in stores?

I dont think I'm ever going to find the man from utopia in the wild

Which live album perfectly encapsulates an artists sound or music of a given decade?

Currently listening to Europe 72- Grateful Dead and it's just such a pure dead sound. It's likely The Dead perfectly preserved in a sonic bottle

I can think of a few more albums that not only perfectly simulate the experience of seeing a band live (steely Dan live bootlegs, pulse by pink Floyd, the filmore east albums) but also encapsulate a certain feel or energy of that time.

Unemployment is revealing how hollow my life is

I'm sitting here listening to zappa (so things aren't all that bad). I've been unemployed for a week and a half, haven't even begun the search yet, and am feeling just feeling imprisoned in my life.

I worked 3 years at retail and I just feel those were the most lucrative years my life is ever to be granted.

Sucks

I feel like I have such a rich and cultured life that I'd love to share, but I don't know how

I have hundreds of movies, cds, books and I have such a vast knowledge of these things and yet I feel so isolated.

I obviously don't need people to enjoy these things, but it would nice to have someone to share my hobbies with.

Me and my gf love Italian horror movies, but I generally have to be more selective when choosing movies with her (there's a lot she's not willing to watch. She is great though and open minded. She'd also autistic)

Anyone relate to this? Sort of feeling as though have so much to offer, but with no one to acknowledge it?

What would you realistically do if you discovered someone you knew was a child predator?

I'd like to think my initial reaction would be shock, then disgust, then something I'd legally regret

Is That 70s Show becoming a forgotten show?

I can't ever seem to find the boxset out in the wild. I never see reruns on tv (living in Ireland) and it use to always play over here).

I miss this show so much

Anyone else strongly prefer kill bill volume 2 over 1?

Weirdly enough, I count volume 2 as one of my favourites and volume 1 as my least favourite Tarantino movie.

It's likely because I don't like the song choices as much and much prefer the western elements of volume 2

Do any of you feel naked if you're not dressed in a way that communicates your interests or personality?

I love the 60s and 70s. It's definitely the grand special interest by which all my other ones stem from.

I generally dress in a way that replicates that style and I just feel so cool when I do.

When I'm not dressed in this way, though, I feel sort of naked; like I'm betraying myself in a way.

Is there anyone else who feels the same?

Just watched Boogie Nights and does anyone feel weirdly inspired to just live after watching that movie?

There's just something some invigorating freedom affirming after watching that movie.

I think of Dirk Diggler is the ultimate insert character. A kind of guy that I can see a real mirror of myself in (the 13 inch diggler aside).

I suppose it's that "what can go wrong" blasé of the 70s but who knows

Do some people just get a kick out of being cruel and unlikable ?

This question is based on my experience working with a women who, due to me being the only one who is openly willing to put up with her (and everyone else refusing to work with her, am basically schedule with her and no one else on my team.

For reference, I work at a small clothes shop and usually I'll he Working in the back preparing clothes for sale(steaming, tagging) while she stands by the till in the front.

Usually, after the generally fatigued sounding morning greeting, she sends me straight to work. She'll come in now and then to see how I'm doing (read: to try and catch me on my phone or drinking tea or whatever thing might disgruntle her) and generally drop some kind of derisive comment like "these rails back here are looking empty" or "im giving you all day. I hope it'll be done".

Keep in mind, this women is not my manager. Her only position of authority over me is thst she's an overly ego centric women in her 60s.

She's not all terrible, but even her ligher side is thorny. Every goes back to her kids or her farm life. She essentially hates everything (hates the city,, hates towns, hates the company of others, doesn't believe in relaxation unless it's her personally doing it).

Talking to her is a kind of an eye opening experience because im so passionate about life and culture and she just seems so dismissive of it (she also hates every single song I play on the cd player).

It just feels like she gets a kick out of living in isolation.

Any thoughts?

Any places to make friends into music and movies?

I'm feeling kind of lonely at the moment and I have very few to scratch the whole friendship itch.

I usually go to music and movie shops in Dublin like HMV, tower records etc. I have enough rapport in HMV for it to feel like feiendship, but it, of course, isn't really.

Any ideas? I'm from Offaly, but I don't imagine many clubs exist for these kind of things in bogger country
