I feel like my mom is selfish for not getting a job, but I dont know.

Hi guys, this is gonna be a mouthful so please stay with me, but I am starting to think my mom is seriously a problem. I am 19F and live with my dad, my mom, and my 11 year old sister. We live in California and are struggling financially. My dad and I have jobs but my mom chooses to not have a job. Why? There is no reason. It is not my sister, my sister has built amazing skills and can mostly take care of herself but even with things she can't understand, my job is only part time and I am home often and can absolutely take care of her and I have many times, and on top of that, shes in a homeschooling program. It is not that my mom busy taking care of our house either, our house is always extremely dirty. It is not because she has any other general kind of big responsibility. Infact, she just makes crafts and watches Tiktok all day.

You may wonder why doesn't she sell her crafts online? Well, because mailing stuff is apparently too much of a hassle for her. The only reason I can possibly think of as to why she doesn't want to get a job is because about 15 or so years ago, which was the last time she had a job, she was there when the store got robbed and had to go to extensive therapy because her and her coworker were held at gunpoint. It is terrible, yes, and I can understand why she wouldn't want a job for a long time after that, but it has been 15 years and we are struggling and she has said herself shes made so much progress since then.

You may wonder why don't I get a fulltime job? Well, because my mom told me to not make too much money because if I do we will lose our free health insurance and I will be compromising the family by making them pay for health insurance. She has also gotten mad at me for getting good hours every now and then before, claiming that I am compromising them because if our health insurance sees that they will kick us off.

My parents have stolen money from me multiple times, even before I got a job and was an adult. When I was 17, I had $200 and they claimed they'd keep my money safe. They then proceeded to spend it and later tried to convince me I never had that much money to begin with. One christmas I got a christmas card from family friends and it included an Amazon gift card. My mom stole the card and was about to use it, only stopping because I caught her. Recently, she tricked me into buying her crafts on Amazon and also will sometimes ask me if I have cash for starbucks

These days, she will guilt trip me into buying things for her and will refer to me as 'rich' when I am not. She also makes me feel bad for some of the purchases I make for myself. Heres where I may be wrong, I dont help pay for our rent or bills. I admit, I may be terrible for that and maybe this whole thing is just me being selfish. I do buy groceries for everyone to eat and I do buy things for our house when we run out (soaps, shampoos, toothepaste, etc) but I can see how that wouldnt be enough and how I should be doing more.

My parents are in constant financial stress, so much so that they are claiming they need to savor every penny they can get. As shameful as I am to say this, I cannot drive. I can't drive because my parents do not want me on the road and would rather I rely on my grandparents for transportation to work. When my parents have to take me to work, they will claim its 'Not a big deal' but then later on will make me feel bad about it in some way. So why not let me drive? I do not know. Too much anxiety. I have always offered to pay for gas money however I dont really like the feeling of always having to worry about them asking me for a certain amount. This past week I was broke because of groceries and they asked me if I had any money in my account. I said I did, I had $19. They took it for gas and left me with $1.33 in my bank account. Later that night, they went out and got pizza to bring back. I think maybe they used some of the gas to go deposit a check or something, but the fact they go out to get fast food after claiming to be super broke is crazy to me.

Most of our familys financial struggles wouldn't be here if my mom got a job. Maybe I am just being a jerk and I dont understand adulting, but im really tired of worrying theyll need money from me and I cant enjoy my money. I know how awful that sounds

Need help, 19, broke, & can't drive.

Hi there. Im 19F. I work a part time job and make a little over $100 a week. My parents are also broke aswell and are constantly trying to preserve gas and also just simply do not like taking me to the store, which I understand but when they grocery shop they only buy processed food that is really just unhealthy and so its up to me to buy the healthy things. Because of this, all my groceries are doordashed and its so so expensive to dash groceries every week and takes up pretty much all my money and I am left with none. I need a more sustainable way. Is it frozen fruit? Frozen veggies? I need all the tips I can get. I lean heavily towards plant based/vegan as possible and am looking to lose weight. What can I do? thank you.

Really feeling alone in my ROCD, can anyone share experiences/success stories?

For the past 5 months I have been struggling with ROCD which is, in my opinion, the worst theme I have ever had. All I want is to be at peace with my boyfriend but my head is genuinley so convinced I am the worst partner and don't love my boyfriend. Its the scariest, most isolating feeling.

What should I do? 19F

My face is so round and it bothers me. What can I even do to make it look sharper? Not even sure what hair to do anymore either or if my current makeup is okay.

Does authentic lps #689 have a magnet? 🥲

Im trying to find this cutie but google is telling me he has a hole in the foot rather than a grey magnet although every sale ive seen of him online looks very authentic (scuffs, portruding neck rings, colors and mold looks normal) but he has a grey magnet, which google tells me is an indicator hes fake. Can anyone help?

Anyone elses parents not teach them how to do anything and then ridicule you for not knowing anything/dangle it above your head how 'spoiled' you were?

Just trying to see if anyone can relate, especially with the whole "Youre so spoiled" thing. It is all the time that when I argue with them they bring up how they did everything for me and that I am extremely bratty for treating them this way when they were so good to me.

AITAH for this argument with both my parents regarding electrical extension cords?

Im 18F but almost 19, I am not educated on anything electricity but ever since the outlet on the other side of my room was covered I have been using 2 extension cords, one plugged into the other. Neither of these cords have alot plugged in, 1 has 2/6 plugged in and the other has 1 plugged in. My mom has some sort of paranoid, delusional, maybe schizoaffective disorder and hallucinates certain things, including smells. My mom is convinced my room smells like an electrical fire hazard although ive had different opinions, even from people with electrical experience, say it does not. It also doesnt even have signs of such thing at all. As a result shes been telling me constantly that I am going to burn down the house and that im not listening to her.

This morning she yelled at me over it and I started to retaliate, I cant remember what I said but it was something about me already hearing about this and being annoyed. My dad then threatened to throw a plate at my face and said "If you have such a problem with us then you can figure out something for your own." I said "I have a job that gives me 8 hours a week usually, I couldnt afford that." And my mom said "Well thats the real world so figure it out" Which blew up into this whole thing, because I took that as them telling me to leave which just hurt. When I said that, I immediately got called dramatic, a lunatic, and a psychopath and that they never even said that and I am making that up.

My mom yelled at me over fire hazards again and I told her she was just repeating herself and that id unplug everything. My dad then got really mad and started physically holding back his own fist and gor up in my face and I flinched really hard, which made me cry and furthur caused me to yell, and to them that made me look more like a lunatic. After all of this, I loudly told them to shut up and leave me alone. I feel I could be wrong because maybe I shouldnt of argued at all but when I am yelled at I retaliate really fast, but maybe I did too much. I did not insult them or anything but I did yell loudly and maybe that is disrespectful because thats mom and dad yknow? Idk.
