Dark Star Park Day Aug 1st 9 am Rosslyn

You’re invited to Dark Star Park Day! This special event, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on August 1, invites the community to experience the remarkable shadow alignment of Nancy Holt’s iconic sculpture, Dark Star Park. Dark Star Park is at 1655 N. Fort Myer Drive (at the convergence of N. Fort Myer Drive and N. Lynn Street, just off Route 50/Arlington Boulevard and two blocks from Rosslyn Metro).

At approximately 9:32 a.m., the spheres and poles of Holt’s Dark Star Park will cast shadows that align perfectly with permanent shapes on the ground. This symbolic moment marks the founding of Rosslyn and transforms the park into a striking space of cosmic connection.

Light refreshments will be provided by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District to add to the festive atmosphere.

Dark Star Park remains one of Nancy Holt’s most significant urban installations, offering an accessible and profound immersive experience. Holt (1938–2014) was a groundbreaking artist whose work spanned various media, including poetry, film, video, land art and large-scale public sculptures. Her art continually pushed boundaries, challenging our perception of the world and our place in it.

PSA: Wear a N95/KN95 mask if you have to go outside today

An P100 respirator is best but a medical respirator is better than nothing. The smoke WILL fuck you up, especially if you have respiratory issues.

So sick of the flyovers as a pet owner

I live in the Crystal City/Pentagon City area and all these low altitude flyovers are making my cats so stressed out. Not sure WHY they need to fly this close to my apartment building when the 12 people who want to see this are at the National Mall getting heatstroke but the noise is even putting me on edge at this point.

My heart goes out to anyone else trying to handle stressed out pets or kids with this constant noise and I can’t wait for all of this to just be over already.

Where in or near Arlington to service Jeep

I’ve been taking my Jeep to the dealer while under warranty, but it is very expensive (obviously). Where around Arlington would you take a Jeep for trustworthy and reasonable service and repair post warranty. Thanks!

Lost Keys

I dropped my keys walking my dog last evening between pentagon city Costco and crystal city Ace. They have a large Lego hotdog keychain that is identifiable, 3 fobs and a few small keys.

Really appreciate anyone keeping an eye out.

Thank you!

The Barton House Apartments (Arlington VA)

I have recently moved in with my partner, and I wanted to shout out my old apartment building.

https://www.akelius-properties.us/barton-house/floorplans/one-bedroom-with-balcony?Beds=1&Apt=408

I have lived here for the last 4 years, and my rent has only gone up ~$30 a year. Very reasonable increases, never once felt gauged. Neighbors are nice as well, never had any issues, and I used to be the party house.

Just wanted to share with yall!

Rodents causing damage to cars' electrical systems

Warning: friends living in the Courthouse area have had their cars' electrical system damaged by rodents (rats/mice). They say that the local hardware store can recommend some solutions to ward them off.

Has anyone had this happen to them?
