A pair of former CJFL players have been named to the top 16 roster of Football Canada’s senior men’s national flag team.
Domenic Horvath, a former Winnipeg Rifle, has been energized and extremely motivated coming into this evaluation session after being named an alternate last season and having to watch the games on a live stream. He’s been added to the top 16 with his vast flag football experience and will no doubt make an immediate impact for Canada.
Pascal Foccroulle-Menard had a brief stint with the Ottawa Sooners and has also been named to the top 16. He was invited to the national selection camp in Winnipeg back in April and impressed the coaching staff so much he earned spot on the top 16.
These two players, along with the other 14 athletes will continue through Football Canada’s high-performance pathway as the team prepares for the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships in Düsseldorf, Germany this August, a tournament that will serve as the first opportunity for nations to secure qualification toward flag football’s debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The next phrase of the final roster selection process takes place in June when the top 16 travel to Chula Vista for training camp. The final roster will be announced following this training camp so the players can prepare for the worlds in Germany.
Played by an estimated 20 million people in more than 100 countries across six continents, flag football is a short, fast, non-contact and gender-equal format. It is the most inclusive and accessible format of football, played by people of all ages and genders, with women and girls driving some of the sport's fastest growth.
The CJFL in conjunction with the Ontario Conference (OFC) has released the 2026 schedule that will see the six-member Conference open the CJFL season the weekend of August 15, 2026.
It’s an exciting season in Ontario with the four-time defending champion St. Clair Saints opening their title defence, on the road in the Nation’s Capital against the Ottawa Sooners, the Sault Ste. Marie Cougars, now in their sophomore season kick off in Hamilton against the Hurricanes and the newly branded Quinte Riptides welcome the London Beefeaters.
The Conference has earmarked Week 7 on Saturday September 26, 2026, as “Rivalry Week.” The games scheduled are the second half of a home-and-home which will no doubt create some mixed rivalry emotions between the teams. During this week the Saints visit the Riptides, the Cougars welcome the Beefeaters and the Hurricanes storm to meet the Sooners.
Once the dust of the regular season settles, the winner of the Conference in 2026 will host the CJFL National Semi-Final game against the winners of the Prairie Conference during the weekend of October 24, 2026. The winner of this game will advance to the Canadian Bowl hosted in British Columbia on Sunday November 8th. The Ontario Conference hasn’t hosted a team from the Prairies since the 2019 National Semi-Final when the Beefeaters entertained the Saskatoon Hilltops.
The Ontario Conference teams will play an eight-game regular season schedule concluding on October 3rd. The Canadian Bowl playoffs will open on Thanksgiving weekend, October 10th with a pair of semi-finals before the Teddy Morris Conference championship game kicks off on Saturday October 17th.
Each of the six teams have been working hard in the offseason with workouts, evaluations and camps. Their preparation will continue in the months ahead before hosting their main camps later this summer prior to the schedule opening in mid-August.
The Valley Huskers are the final CJFL team to open Spring Camp this season as they will hit the field at the end of May in preparation for the 2026 campaign.
Entering his fourth season Braeden MacDonald is hoping to make a major impact this year helping his team back to the playoffs while producing offensively. Last year he made only five receptions, averaging over 19 yards a catch. The Huskers anticipate him to be more of a focal point in the passing game this year.
As a Chilliwack native, MacDonald shares some of his football journey as he goes Under the Helmet with Ryan Watters.
The Winnipeg Rifles have two of their own invited to the Blue Bombers Rookie Camp.
CJ Augustine has been incredible for the Langley Rams over the past two seasons and is going to be a leader on their defence in 2026.
Prior to Spring Camp he stops to talk with Ryan Watters and goes Under the Helmet. He talks about other sports he played growing up, how he fell in love with football and lays down a unique challenge to the other CJFL players across the country!
Each of the other CJFL teams now knows about this challenge and we are hopeful it comes true. Thank you CJ for this creative idea, let’s make it happen!
The Rams open Spring Camp this weekend in Langley.

Shout out to the 5 former CJFL players drafted this year.
Last year the Rifles played a DIII oponent from Minnesota.
Do any of the CJFL teams have something like that planned this year?
Slowly Prince George is becoming more forthcoming with its organization.
