My boyfriend ended things with me while he’s at his lowest(grieving & depress), and honestly, I don’t even know how to approach him.
My boyfriend is British while im Asian. Last Monday, he told me he wanted to take a break, but he also told me not to wait for him because it’s not worth it and I deserve better. But I still insisted and told him I’d wait for him. I honestly feel like I’m better and happier with him. We literally just celebrated GF’s Day last week, even though we both know it’s just some made-up thing on the internet lol, but he still made sure I felt loved and made an effort for me.
What makes this harder for me is that I’m really worried about him because of the things he’s told me before. Last June, he told me that if it wasn’t for me, he would want to die. We talked about it, i want him to know im always there for him, and he told me he didn’t want to give up and that he wanted us to bond more and spend more time together. Then last July, he told me that he’d be better off dead and that I could be happy somewhere else. We talked about it again, and somehow we ended up talking about our future together. So now that he’s at his lowest again, I can’t help but worry about him a lot.
I know he’s going through so much right now. He’s depressed, and I feel like losing his friend to suicide was kind of his breaking point. I’m genuinely sad about what happened to his friend too, and knowing that he’s dealing with that loss makes me worry about him even more. I really sympathise with him because I know he’s hurting, and I know everyone deals with grief differently, so I tried my best to respect the space he needed.
My man is actually really good at showing me how much he loves me, but whenever he’s at his lowest, he doesn’t really express himself or talk about what he’s feeling. And honestly, that just makes me want to understand him more. I don’t only want to be there when everything is good and he’s happy. I want to be there when things are bad, i wanna feel his pain. I want to be there through the thick and thin, when he’s struggling. I just want him to know he doesn’t have to deal with everything alone.
I really love him, and we had plans together even though we’re in an LDR. He’s always been so loving towards me, he respects me, and he understands me. In our last conversation, I told him I’d wait for him, but he kept saying he was serious about not wanting me to wait. He told me I should try to find my own happiness and that I can do better. I just told him it was okay because I didn’t want to make the conversation even longer or make him feel more stressed, especially when I know everything is still so raw for him.
I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to do now. I want to give him the space he needs, but at the same time, I really want to check on him and let him know I’m here. I don’t want him to feel pressured or think I’m pestering him. I just miss my man so much. I'll be lying if i said i dont want us to be togather again, but if he really doesn’t want to anymore, I’m willing to accept that. It just really hurts right now. I guess more than anything, I just want to know that he’s going to be okay.
TL;DR: My boyfriend ended our relationship while he’s grieving and depressed, and I don’t know how to approach him anymore. He’s told me before that he wanted to die and that he’d be better off dead, so I’m really worried about him now. I want to respect his space, but I also really want to check on him and make sure he’s okay.
