America Needs a No-Drive List

Outrageous. A bit of concrete, a No Drive List, and/or a protected lane for bikers could have saved these Americans.

New Aventon or Used Premium Brand?

I promised my wife that I wouldn't pull the trigger until we get her job sorted out. That means I have time to dream and decide - should I buy a new Aventon with accessories for ~$2,500 or spend $2,500 on a used premium brand like Yuba, Trek, or Specialized with a mid-drive motor?

Important notes:

  • The bike has to be stored outside - I can bring the battery inside during the winter, but the frame needs to stay in the mulch next to our air conditioning unit.
  • We will keep this bike for years and years. Even when my sons (1 and 3 grow out of it), Lord willing, there will be more kids right behind them.
  • The only nearby e-bike mechanics are 1) Trek, 2) an Aventon retailer and shop, and 3) a guy that works out of his garage.
  • I can't stomach spending $3,000 or more (the Larry example attached is just a sample of what's in the area). I'd be all worked up about dropping it, the small chance of theft etc. Hence the choice between Cheap/New vs. Used/Premium.
  • I can do some bike repairs myself.
  • I want to be able to carry 2+ kids in a format that is low to the ground and easy to step through for my wife's sake.

What do you all think? I'd appreciate any advice!

What will the Labor Day sale be like?

Hi all, I’m interested in an Aventon Abound. Do we know what the sales will likely be? I’m hoping the sale price lands the bike in my price range for my two sons and I.

Thanks for any insight you might have!

What do we think of this deal?

And could I get two kids on here? The smaller size appeals to me as an apartment dweller.

Transports???

At the beginning of the game I'm easily able to send out transports. I click on an island, a red target appears, and a transport ship leaves for that island. But later in the game I can't send out transports in any way. I can't click and send and there doesn't seem to be a button for this!?!

Dyson 24 won’t turn on

I’ve replaced the power cord and it worked for one second and now it’s not turning on again. I unplugged it quickly (the kids were napping) but now it won’t work at any outlet.

Any thoughts?

Should I grab it? Xtracycle 2021 Edgerunner

The bike's power is inconsistent. The poster says "the pedal assist connection only cuts on sometimes."

Is that a fix that I stand a good chance of making? I have a radwagon 4 and my main goal is to get a cargo bike that is more compact, that has a lower center of gravity, and lighter. I'd like for my wife to more easily be able to handle the bike with two kids on it.

UPDATE: Thank you for everyone's advice. I'm going to steer clear!

Need to make a trophy for cheap!

How would you all recommend 1) creating a custom flag to replace the original Turkish flag here and 2) creating a plaque that will make this a trophy for a board game winner?

Ideally the plaque would be gold like you would find on a kids trophy.

The base is cheap wood, the statue is metal.

I want to do a great job with this but don’t have a lot of money to spend.

What should I do, Diplomats?

I am playing Turkey and am allied with Russia and Austria against France, England, and Germany. What should I do next turn? Ignore the date - this is a sandbox of a slow-moving over-the-board game at my company.

What are some tactics beyond alliances, verified orders, and public announcements. We need a way to make a comeback.

We have applied for LCCN but haven't received it yet. Is there any risk to publishing without it?

I'd love to go ahead and publish, but can I assure my authors that we won't be made ineligible by releasing the book without the number? My friend says since we applied, publishing now will not complicate our eligibility.

New win condition - how will other players react to this?

I am managing an over the board, slow moving game at work. I think it would be wise to suggest a new win condition. "Two players may sign an alliance and share victory if they control 20 supply centers."

Is there any reason that would be a bad idea? I'm surprised that that doesn't appear in any version of the rules.

How long does it take to get a Library of Congress number, in general?

It would be helpful to hear from everyone's experience out there in the wild!

Publisher says sale date cannot be changed

Our publisher, who uses Ingram, says the sale date of our book cannot be changed because we put up a presale link. They also fucked up our book so that the page numbers appear close to the spine instead of on the outside corners.

Are they telling the truth? Is it possible that we can’t make this fix so that future readers get the proper layout? I get that the few preorders are locked in place, but how can this be fixed moving forward?
