UK Diagnosis

Father 91 progressing through diagnosis with NHS.

Has had 2 verbal tests at the GP, 1at the Memory Clinic and a CT of his head.

Had notification today that a Doc is coming to the house at the end of the month to discuss.

A home visit is unheard of these days, is this to be expected, does it imply a specific outcome ?

Flec and PACs / Ectopics

Long background so will try to summarise

Male 60

Previously had Flutter ablation, solved flutter but high ectopic burden left be on bisoprolol.

Steady for maybe 4 years.

Within last 18 months watch etc has flagged periods of AF and at some points this has been for weeks.

Cardio put me on thinner (apixiban) and rate control (Flec). The Flec flipped me back to Sinus but it was very messy, lots of ectopics and periods of bigimeny (sp).

In discussion with Cardio he suggested coming of the Flec and seeing how that went. It was a mixed story..started in sinus, progressed to infrequent AF and finally another month in AF.

When I came off the Flec the Doc said I could restart it if I wanted, so I have. 2x 100mg per day. I went into perfect sinus, no ectopics for about 4 days but have now reverted to frequent ectopics. I've no symptoms and have even got used to it so as my brain doesn't even flag it anymore.

My Question. Could this be a dose issue ? I'm wondering that as early in the treatment when the retained dose will be less, the sinus was perfect. As the treatment went beyond a few days the ectopics reappeared. Is this a known issue ? Is anyone on a regular dose of less than 2x100mg ?

I get the impression I'll be heading for another ablation later this year early next, but if it could be safely managed by drugs then I'd perhaps be cotent with that.

Any feedback gratefully received.

Thanks.

Revolving Door

We have clearly had a problem with managers in the recent past. The flip flop / in out approach must have seriously impacted the team and it's performances. I had hoped Rohl was going to stick around a while but here we are entering another season with a new manager.

That aside, my bigger concern is the way the club, and seemingly most of the support are on board taking the same approach with players. The throughput and accumulation of "talent" is alarming to me. We are buying and dumping players that haven't even had a fair chance. Antman for example has only played in 16 games and most of those as a sub. None of us have seen his true ability yet off he goes and we take a punt on some other random that's likely to only be here 1 season.

Rohl didn't seem to ever settle on a best 11 and I doubt McInnes will either.

We need a core of players that stick around and become a team. This procession of players signed using a shotgun approach is symptomatic of our poor performances.

I already worry about the season ahead.

Out on a limb, I think McInnes was a bad move. Let's see.

Let battle commence.

Horse Chestnut Health

I have a large Horse Chestnut in my garden. It's likely to be 130 years old at least and I need some advice regarding it's health.

I've been in the property for about 7 years and, at no time has it had "conkers". The foliage isn't as dense as other chestnuts in the area and as of now (3rd week July) the leaves are already browning as per autumn.

I'd like to understand if there's anything I can do to help the tree and improve it's health.

Non-alcoholic drinking

Hi,

As a tea total traveller to Japan / Tokyo, but someone that's historically enjoyed indulging in local nightlife while on travels, what would be the accepted drinks to have in a Japanese bar ?

Is it accepted to be in a bar and not drink alcohol ? Are 0% drinks easily available?

I feel that not drinking potential leaves one missing huge chunks of the experience.

Food Related question

Around 10 years ago I visited Tokyo as a tourist.

I was staying near Shibuya are at the Curlean Hotel. One evening, walking close to the hotel looking for some food, we ended up taking a 2 person elevator to a place on the 4th or 5th floor.

I'm not expecting this to be recognised etc but have a question about what the speciality appeared to be.

Basically, from sign language, it seemed to be some animals intestine. It was cooked in a broth and they made a lid from cabbage leaves. Finally, they added noodles to the broth.

It was excellent. What was it ? Does this dish have a generic name ?

There's loads of Japanese food videos online, but never seen anything like this

Speed taking me by surprise

Can the community please give me some idea of speed / acceleration of decline. I am currently flabbergasted by the progress (undiagnosed but progressing slowly through that minefield) of my father's issue.

At 91, granted he's aging, but until 90, he was more or less OK mentally. In the last year his deterioration is marked. This morning was up and dressed at 5am for a 1030am dentist appointment and we "discovered" that he couldn't tell the time, or even understand the concept of time. "If it's 0620, how does it become 0621"

Is the "normal until a certain age followed by a rapid decline" normal ?

September Trip to Osaka

In September (21st - 23rd) I plan to be in Osaka to attend a rock concert by Scottish band Belle and Sebastian.

They are playing at the BIGCAT venue. Is this area a good spot for tourists ? Can anyone please recommend a nice hotel close to the venue and perhaps some interesting restaurant ?

Thank you.

UK Diagnosis Process /Outcomes

After oral questionnaire with GP (twice) and similar at memory clinic I am taking my father today for a brain scan.

What are we likely to get out of this in the way of a diagnosis and, depending on what that might be, is there likely to be any medication prescribed OR is it just a means to forewarn about what's to come ?
