Birdland Jazz Club 930pm

Hi.

Booked a table ticket for tonight. Wondering what the set up is. Are you expected to dine while the performance is on ? OK not to dine ?

Jazz Club most suitable for solo traveller

Hi.

Visiting NYC this week and would like to visit a jazz club. The idea of being a gooseberry at a shared table is undesirable, so which club best suits solo and why ?

KATZ Interested in local thoughts on selecting a Saturday late night for KATZ

In NYC next week for a few days. Want to try Katz but not so keen on hours long wait.

Is Saturday night a good or bad time to avoid lengthy lines ? Probably earliest I'd be there would be 11pm ?

Either that or an early start another day I'm thinking ?

Failure to Deliver

I've had notification of a package arriving from overseas. Not planned so I don't know what it is.

It's highly likely that when it arrives I will be out the country for up to 3 weeks.

Is there a way to postpone the delivery ? I don't want it to be returned to sender while I am away.

I don't know what it is, so don't know if it will fit through letterbox

Notification SMS

Hi.

On an existing Royal Mail SMS thread I have just received a new SMS.

It reads as follows

Your "persons name" item from "country where said person lives" is on its way.

The name is unusual and familiar to me and it's the correct related country.

There's no further info or tracking.

Is this a genuine Royal Mail SMS format ?

UK (Scotland) Diagnosis Query

My father (91) has been showing signs of early dementia for perhaps 18 months. After an episode of delirium (perhaps infection related) the dementia has become much more evident / quicker onset etc.

Throughout this time, several approaches have been made to GPs and healthcare professionals within the NHS to try and work towards confirmed diagnosis but this hasn't amounted to anything concrete.

The GP has twice given a questionnaire based test, eg what year is it, who is Prime Minister, remember these three words etc The test was exactly the same both times. Following both tests the next step "Memory Clinic" rejected GPs request for a consultation but have just had an appeal granted and a further test will be carried out ?

Q1. If this is a normal diagnosis route, what will the Memory Clinic test entail ? Is it just a further questionnaire type thing or is there more to it ?

Q2. I may be naive, but I thought an MRI brain scan gave definitive answers, so is this an option that will be offered ?

Q3. Again, naively, I believed that some forms of dementia could be slowed via drugs ? If that's true, which type is it and how is that diagnosed ?

What's concerning me is that we see so much on TV etc about the rise of dementia, but being part way down that road, it doesn't seem like it's particularly high on the medical profession's agenda ? It seems like they're not really interested in even checking out of there's an issue or diagnosing it if there is one ?

If you're in the UK, specifically Scotland, and have experience of this path, I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts.

Thank you.

Spingle Move

I've been trying to break these Spingle Move sneakers in for a long time, is it me or is this a common issue (for Westerners). I believe I have the correct size, but after less than 1km, I'm bleeding. The photo is after heel grips have been inserted.

Any tips to possibly resolve this ? I love the shoes and would really love to be able to wear them.

Spingle Move Sneakers

When visiting Japan I purchased a pair of Spingle Move sneakers. I love them BUT they tear my feet to ribbons.

I believe I purchased the correct size, but there's something about the heel shape that leaves my blistered and bleeding after about 1km of walking. Is this a Westerners problem ? Anyone else suffering similar

I'm now approaching 60, but made my first trip to the US and California (from the UK) when I was around 13 I think.

One of the revelation dining experiences from that initial trip was pizza. What you were eating in California in the early 80s was something completely new to us, vastly different from the pizza we were used to at home.

I remember the first time we stopped at a place. The things to take in.

  1. The pizza was massive, a huge pie to feed the whole table.

  2. It had a thin crust.

  3. There were no plates or cutlery, just napkins.

I think the place was a Shakey's.

For me, these days, sadly the pizza offered by chains the world over is so homogenised, be it Dominos, Pizza Hut etc, it's the same on the UK or the US.

So the question is, is my memory playing tricks on me, did the type of place I described really exist back then and are there any still on the go ?

I believe Shakey's is still a thing but the offerings look like standard Pizza Hut etc.
