Book recommendations for German/European/Scandinavian areas?

I'm aware of the SAS handbook and am pondering on whether it's indeed worth it for someone not living in the US. My idea behind it is to have both some lecture to learn things about that will help outside but also have something that can come in handy in a real pickle. Sadly these are the times we live in in Europe and elsewhere these days and it's no longer solely a mere hobby.

So what reading material can be recommended for these regions that cover what the SAS one does too? Wilflife, tracking, traps, firemaking, navigation, sanitation, plants, basically anything that I'm bound to encounter and should at least have some knowledge of.

I'm also asking because I want to avoid the whole hardcore prepper fearmongering end of the world nuclear winter etc etc crap rabbit hole right off the bat. A guy I sometimes go on a hike with has unfortunaly fallen into that and went as far as building a bunker under his house, his own power grid, wifi/comms setup and such. Despite everything going on, I highly doubt things will get THIS dangerous for most EU citizens anytime soon.

Oiling tips for a fresh Gränsfors axe handle with burning patterns?

I've got one of their axes and it feels really nice. I've wanted to give the handle a bit of detail. Adding burning patterns and then oiling it to bring out the grain more, giving it some contrast.

I have no practical experience with hickory yet but I've used regular plain sunflower, walnut and other food oils on wood to give the material a coating and complement the grain pattern.

Are these typical food oils even the right choice in this case? I still have a bottle of almost full walnut oil I got a few years back, though it's expiration date has passed for over a year now. I know Gränsfors has their own oil but I'm not sure about that. I kinda view it like Zippo and their lighter fluid when offbrand lighter fluids are perfectly fine too.

The axe is expected to see a good bit of forest dirt, sometimes also rain if that info helps. The burning I would do with an old soldering iron and a temperature just high enough to get some decent heat, so nothing crazy. Maybe 200 degrees tops. I prefer going over it with less heat and more times so it doesn't turn into charcoal right away. If that idea is terrible for hickory in general, please say so.

Any pumptrack riders and cruisers with bad backs that have a Swamp Master? Yay or nay?

It's a very pricy bike no doubt and after trying a lot over the past year with a Mankind, I found that I'm just not capable of any major tricks anymorre. Hopping doesn't work as well as I hoped despite practice and my back doesn't like frequent riding up and down ramps.

It's a different thing on softer obstacles like smaller pumptracks and just regular cruising around in parks and lighter forest areas. Anyone here who also has a bad back, perhaps bad knees too, and experience with the WTP Swamp Master? Seen some threads from up to two years ago where older folks praised the suspension and getting to enjoy BMX again.

It's probably a fairly niche use case anyways.

Dragonsword Awakening notes not yet documented (will expand over time)

Since the corresponding sub is still locked down, I'll post here.

This is meant to collect notes on different matters not yet documented about the game from item, NPC, etc. locations to problems and other oddities with the game

Here are some:

Walnuts, peanuts, etc.: farmed from squirrels. Run through forest areas spamming the target lock button with a ranged char. Squirrels are near invisible due to the grass around them.

Controller settings like vibration not saving: Navigate to "DragonSword Awakening\DS\Saved\Config\Windows", open GameUserInputSettings.ini and check the file for changes done in the game. Adjust settings as needed and save the file. "ForceFeedbackStrength" controls vibration. I had it set to 2, despite ingame setting being 0/off.

I hope that this info will eventually get added to wikis and the like for proper documentation. I mainly made this post because I and probably many others can't be bothered watching a 70 minute let's play video for 3 seconds worth of information scattered somewhere in between.

Dragonsword players: Anyone figured out team combinations yet?

My first Exchange unlocked character was Kalien because of the burn status and ranged fire attacks. Turns out this char triggers a lot of combos with Castella.

Anyone else using those two? Who should I pair them with to further maximize damage? The game doesn't appear to have elemental reactions like Genshin does. I have a second Exchange ticket to spend now, torn between Dana and Charlotte.

Back then in Genshin, my playstyle was focused on crowd control and range. I used a mid tier fire character combined with Raiden's and Yelan's bursts for ranged fire + elec + water reaction spamming. Of course it made the combat utterly trivial.

Industry Giant 2 but on Android?

Don't know much about newer games of this type, I've mosstly been hooked on IG2 ever since it came out. Is there an equivalent on Android? Newer games of this type feel like there's way too much micromanagement involved. Namely the likes of Cities Skylines.

Not sure if correct sub - wanting to remove WebView from Win10 VM

Stumbled into this from a search.

I've got a Win10 VM I'm trying to slim down some and some waste of space stems from this WebView render engine thing. I don't use edge, nor do I use any web based software such as news, weather, etc. inside the VM. Its sole purpose is for holding and running a simple game server that itself also doesn't rely on WebView.

Any command or regedit trick that gets rid of anything Edge like Webview and at best even the whole Microsoft folder inside Program Files x86? 3GB is still 3GB in my eyes. The folder has Webview, Edge, Edgecore, Edgeupdate and a small Temp folder. that is empty.

Trying to learn Workstation - migrating VM from a too large virtual disk to a smaller one?

Problem seems basic. I've allocated more space than I thought I would need to a VM and shaved off a lot of unused files inside. It's used for a private server as a hobby project. The VM has a disk size of 80GB and I really only need 50GB, maybe a bit less if I shave off some more stuff.

I've read that VMWare has a conversion tool for this purpose. Is that the only way or what would be the simplest way to move everything to a smaller virtual disk? I don't wanna make any other changes to the VM, just have it sit on a 30GB smaller virtual disk.

Home NAS with 4 bays- Ugreen, Synology, something else?

Looking to replace my single external 4TB drive with an NAS soon. What's the go-to for long term users in this subreddit? And what about compatiblity with hard drives? Synology Diskstation specifically requires compatible hard drives.

I was kinda hoping to grab an NAS and just throw in a bunch of Seagates or WDs in 4TB size because I couldn't find complete solutions in the consumer market yet. The prices for these go pretty close to 2000€ from what I have seen. A very high price tag but something I could reach with saving up. But then it would have to be the perfect NAS without any compatiblity issues anywhere, at all.

As for connections, these things only have those old USB 3.0 connectors. My current external has one and the transfer speed is crazy low. Takes ages if I have a 30GB file to back up.

Cerakote yay or nay?

Looking on the secondhand market and came across this tactix watch with a Cerakote coating. Looked it up and found some gun owners liking it for looks but also mentioning it doesn't really add any protection against sweat, fat, water and stuff at all.

Any long term Garmin owners with experience on that field and how that coating works or not specifically on a Garmin watch? If there is no practical value to it, why should one pick a watch with th at coating?

For the record, I would likely put a protective face cover over it anyway. Too many occasions in day to day life and also outdoors where the watch can accidently bump on something and get damaged.

Inner screen stability on Fold 7?

Fold 3 user here, been following the development ever since that thing came out and noticed the crease didn't improve at all until the 7th gen device.

One problem mine had was that the display came off after just a year of use. As expected of users of such devices, I unfolded it quite regularly, multiple times a day and often also used it in a 45 degree angle instead of fully unfolded. That eventually caused the display itself to come off right at the crease. Has been fixed since then and not happened again now that I unfold it completely everytime.

So what is the state of things nowadays? Pixelfold and other competitors I could try out still have a very terrible crease.

[other] Need some pointers and help from modders for adjusting Ellesmere + GearFlyout a little

I've adjusted to EUI quite well and came to appreciate the way it works. I've added the GearFlyout addon (https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/gearflyout) as well because nearly every other game I played has this feature where you hover the cursor over a gear slot on char screen and see other gear that can fit in the slot. Felt weird that WOW doesn't have this. GearFlyout only adds a button to click instead of showing the items right when the cursor hovers over the gear slot but it's better than nothing.

But the flyout button is very small and difficult to click safely, so I would need to adjust both mods. Flyout to make the hitbox and icon graphic a bit bigger and EUI to move the gear slot hitboxes a little more inward. I assume the gear slot graphic elements are parented to the hitboxes, so adjusting the hitboxes alone should be enough

I can somewhat read lua a bit and have done a bunch of editing in my Garrys Mod days where you work with a similar language called Expression2 but some help from experienced modders would greatly help.

I've been used to this Flyout feature for the past 16 years or so.

[other] Addon to make the UI easier on the eyes?

Bit of background:

Played Aion from 2009 to 2016 and then on and off over the years. Always liked the kind of larger UI it has, the easier to read fonts, larger buttons.

WOW seems a bit all over the place. Super large hotbar icons, decent sized main menu buttons, super tiny narrow quest accept/return buttons and hard to read NPC convo interface.

There is an ancient upload from soneone who managed to make a carbon copy of Aion's UI for the game but I doubt it works anymore. What addons do you guys use and recommend? I have seen ElvUI and some others but they look rather flat, almost too minimalistic. Don't really want my game to look like the inside of a Tesla or something, that'd be too extreme.

I'm still largely unfamiliar with addons and beginning to discover things here and there. Already have the issue that the vanilla UI editor doesn't properly save hotbars. I have one set up in a 3x3 space positioned slightly above the main hotbar and the game always loads it way on top of the screen instead until I engage edit mode and save again.

Right game for stealth only player?

I've only loosely tried PD2 years back and got curious about PD3. How viable is the stealth gameplay for solo and 2 players each? Is it just basic "stay out of sight" kinda stuff or does the game allow employing more intricate plans with its mechanics? I only know GTA 5 heists thus far and that always felt somewhat basic, simplistic. Not really Danny Ocean level.

What do the stealth only players think?

Proud Nordics non-DLC costumes locations?

Tips for a min/maxed simple plane?

Been experimenting with fan alignments and can't really figure out how things work with them. Tried stacks of six left and right, one stack of six split up in the center (front/back of stick). Tried a stack of 3 only.

It all feels the same when climbing, flying straight and turning. Is there a definitive plane setup that maximized flight, climbing, turning speed?

The only thing I figured is that fans left and right of the center cripple turning speed to almost nothing. Fans must remain center on the roll axis.

Alternative/successor to K2 kickboard or Micro Monster?

Been riding a Micro Monster since 2006 and as an alternative now a K2. Are such scooters still made these days?

Haven't had much luck finding a worthy successor. Pennyboards and small cruiser boards are not really safe in urban environments and cities and the handlebar makes crossing curbstones a lot faster and safer than a regular skateboard. With my Sector9 custom, I can cross very small curbstones but not the tall ones that are about 50mm or more.

Something like an offroad longboard in a smaller form factor and with a brake built in would be perfect.

Porting saves between PC/Switch RCT Classic and OpenRCT2?

Got the GOG release of RCTC and also often play on the Switch when on travels. Saves between PC RCTC and Switch are easily interchangable, they use the same .sv6 format.

But OpenRCT2 saves in .park format. It can load .sv6 just fine but loading these .park saves in PC RCTC or Switch RCTC does not work. Can they be converted somehow?

A general purpose solution for scaling games up to 5760x1080 on 3 screen setups and back?

Recently joined the ultrawide world with a triple screen setup and began messing around with some games using NoMoreBorder.

It does work and I have the usual super warped sides stretched view that you usually have on ultrawide setups. Games like Pillars of Eternity are expanded to the sides properly, giving a much greater FOV.

But isn't there a simpler way to change up to that high resolution and back? I don't wanna run a game at 3 screen all the time and that NMB borderless tool requires setting software, display, resolution every single time it's launched which is extremely annoying over time.

It's probably niche but having two of the macro buttons on the keyboard assigned to a batch script or something that can change between 3 screen and center (1) screen would be much easier for the currently focused software.

Looking to replace an old Roccat Vulcan with hotswap keyboard

I've been looking into keyboards and technically have found the ideal looking one but it's not sold in the EU nor manufactured anymore where I live. It was the Asus Flare 2 Animate.

AI hasn't been any help either, usually hallucinating things into the response that don't match or ignoring companies or any combination of problems. I hope some humans can point me into the right direction better than a LLM can.

It feels like my particular combination of features sought after makes the search very difficult. I want a 100% sized mechanical that has hotswap switches (for easy replacement in the future) and the usual bells and whistles like per-key RGB, programming keys with macros and other functions like launching software and such.

Basically a Flare 2 Animate but one that is still being made and sold today. That one is only a little over 4 years old from what I could gather and it being already out of production is crazy. Most keyboards I found thus far are either 96% where the numpad is missing or are wireless.

I don't like wireless for two reasons: The battery runs out at the worst possible moment and leaving the cable plugged in damages the battery over time because it keeps receiving charging current and remains topped off at 100%.

As far as budget is concerned, I would go as high as 150€ if that's where the best fitting keyboards are found at. It would be even better if the LEDs were included in the switches too but such keyboards don't exist from the looks of it. Roccat keyboards were known for having LEDs break down after merely two or three years and my Vulcan is no exception. By comparison, the LEDs and everything else inside my 11 year old Roccat Nyth mouse are still in top condition.
