Queer Friends at Hunter?

Hey everyone! I’m starting grad school at Hunter this fall and would love to meet more queer and alternative people around my age. I’m 24F and into taking long walks around the city, trying new foods, going to concerts, and just exploring NYC in general.

Would be cool to make some genuine friendships before the semester starts feel free to message me or comment if we have similar interests :)

Is it possible to live alone in NYC on $71k

I just got my first full time job making $71k and I’m trying to figure out if living alone in NYC is actually realistic on that salary. I currently live in Brooklyn with my grandparents, but I really want to move out and have my own space for independence.

I know NYC is expensive, so I’m trying to be realistic and not set myself up for something I can’t sustain. Is living alone here on that kind of income actually doable, or is it more of a roommate situation at this stage?

Bought a jacket 10 days ago, seller won’t ship or respond. What can I do?

I bought a jacket on Depop 9 days ago and the seller still hasn’t shipped it or responded to any of my messages asking for updates. Their profile says they’ve sold other items before, but they have no reviews. It also says they “often ship in 3 days.”

Is there anything I can do at this point? Should I wait longer or open a dispute/refund request?

I’m embarrassed to bring my girlfriend to my family’s tiny apartment and it’s affecting me badly (24/F, 24/F)

My girlfriend and I are both 24. I live in NYC with my grandparents in a really small railroad-style apartment, and honestly it’s been a huge source of embarrassment for me my whole life. The layout is bad for privacy my grandparents have to walk through my room to get to theirs and my “room” has no windows, so it feels dark and cave like all the time.

Because of it, I almost never invite friends over. I’ve always felt ashamed of where I live, even though I know housing in NYC is expensive and a lot of people live with family. But it still gets to me.

My girlfriend grew up completely differently. She lives in a beautiful house upstate with her own room, privacy, natural light, space, etc. I’m bringing her over tonight and I feel genuinely humiliated and anxious about what she’ll think. She’s never judged me before, but I can’t stop comparing our situations and feeling like less of an adult because of mine.

Has anyone else dealt with feeling ashamed of their living situation while dating someone whose life looks very different from yours?

I’m currently babysitting a young child (around kindergarten age) and I just need to vent a little. This has honestly been the most challenging childcare experience I’ve had.

The child has significant support needs, is nonverbal, and can be physically aggressive at times hitting, biting, etc. There have been moments where I’ve gotten genuinely hurt, and it’s been hard to manage on my own. There are also frequent meltdowns that can escalate quickly and are really difficult to de-escalate.

On top of that, safety is a huge concern impulsivity, running off, and not always understanding danger (like going into the street). It constantly feels like I have to be on high alert every second.

I care about doing a good job, but this feels like a role that really should have more support or more than one person. I have about a month left and I’m pushing through, but I’m definitely feeling burnt out and overwhelmed.

Not really looking for solutions. Just needed to get that off my chest.

I’m looking to take my grandma out for lobster it’s her absolute favorite but I don’t eat seafood myself, so I’m hoping to find a place that has both great lobster and some solid non seafood options.

We’re in Park Slope but totally open to going into Manhattan for something really good. Ideally somewhere sit down, not too chaotic, and worth the experience.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated thank you!!
