I use steam + heroic launcher for games rn.. that is good for games. haven't tried modding after linux..
I got tempted and installed gta san andreas .. i wanted to install this Mod from nexus. It had a .bat file. so installed Wine without knowing about it.. (my gta sa game was a repack, the mod was for steam version.. yeah i am dumb ig) did some fuckery in the terminal and fucked up my save file. I am not this bad with terminal normally, it was a bad moment ig. anyways no worries I am replaying it again. so the thing is I wanna run programs (rare random Windows programs, Steam/GOG/Epic games/Repacks, modding), tell me what are the things I need to install. Trying to avoid installing 5 different tools that all do the same thing. what I did until now was add any progammes to steam (even non games) and run it via proton experimental (idk the difference between proton stable different versions, experimental, hotfix, steam linux runtime, legacy steam runtime etc). adding every programme to steam is annoying (fine with games, also it doesn't do anything with .bat files (ofc ik)) Now I am overwhelmed by this heroic, lutris, wine, proton, proton ge, bottle etc.. idk what each does different.. and which to use when (Tbh I haven't installed most from this list, red articles). people of reddit please hold my hand guide me like I am your dumb kid. <3

Specs: i5-6500, Intel HD 530 (no dedicated GPU), 8GB RAM, Fedora Linux (Proton/Steam Play).

Has anyone actually run these on similar integrated graphics (HD 530/620/4000 era)? Mainly want to know:

Which of these are realistically stuck below 30fps even at lowest settings

Any specific Proton version / launch flags that helped for Far Cry 4 or BF4 specifically (read these can be finicky to even launch)

Hey everyone, back again. Posted about two weeks ago when the last sale was on, got some lovely comments but no gift, and then the sale ended. Now the next sale just started so I am giving it another shot, slightly wiser and a bit more hopeful this time.

For context, here is why I want this game so much.

My brother and I grew up glued to the TV every Saturday morning. We would wake up before everyone else, sneak past our grandpa snoring on the sofa, grab a bowl of Chocos each, and just sit there watching cartoons shoulder to shoulder. No real plan, just the two of us and the screen.

He moved away for college last year and the house has felt quieter ever since. We talk often but it is not the same as sitting next to someone while they lose it over the same thing you are watching.

A few months back he picked up Cuphead and turned into his own personal commentary channel about it. Voice notes about getting wrecked by Hilda Berg, a very dramatic retelling of the Grim Matchstick fight, and one call where he explained the entire King Dice sequence like it was a story from his own life. Listening to him made me feel like we were back on that living room floor again.

That is when it hit me that I did not just want to watch him play, I wanted to be in it with him. I want to be the one calling him to complain about a boss for once, so we can be equally bad at something together, just from different cities now.

We live in a country where Steam pricing is much lower than in the US, so a gift here goes a lot further than the dollar amount suggests. If anyone feels like helping two siblings relive a bit of their cartoon mornings, I would be really grateful, and I promise detailed boss fight rage reports as a thank you.

I have a GameSir G7 Pro Zenless Z0 controller now, wanted a secondary controller to play with my friends

I ordered the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wired (~₹2000), but now I’m second-guessing after seeing the Cosmic Byte Ares Tri-Mode (~₹1700).

My priorities are pretty simple:

Hall effect sticks + triggers (must-have)

Great overall durability (ideally ~3-5 years use)(Ik 5 years is hoping too high, but most of the time this controller will stay inactive)

Reliable buttons & other misc.

PC gaming (wired is totally fine, wireless is just a bonus that might rarely come in handy )

Would especially like opinions from people who’ve used either long-term (quality, durability, buttons, etc.).

I recently chose programming as my educational path, so I'll be sitting hours and hours with a keyboard from now on. Right now I'm stuck with a membrane keyboard where some keys are hit or miss - sometimes they work, sometimes they just don't register. It's honestly exhausting to type on.

I'm on Fedora KDE (Wayland) and my main desktop is also where I game/browse/discord, so I want a separate, stripped-down session I only use for studying. workflow is dead simple: youtube lectures + notes + pdf references, nothing else.

plan is a separate "study" user + a lightweight session picked at login, with KDE staying my main. fine with a one-time config, just want it solid after.

AI told me to go with a WM (sway) or a light DE (lxqt/xfce)

specs in case it matters: i5-6500, intel hd 530, 8gb ram, so light is a real plus.

The pile of 30+ tags is gone, replaced with one focused set. Every post needs a flair now - it keeps the feed sorted

Two changes we called out:

• A few flairs are team-applied only (we add those).

Posting's actually simpler now - fewer, clearer flairs. If a tag you used to use is gone, just grab the closest match. And don't stress the rules: honest first-time slip-ups MIGHT get a heads-up, not a ban (based on severity), and you can always appeal via modmail.
