Replacing air vent cover, but the original was screwed directly into the ceiling?

Replacing air vent cover, but the original was screwed directly into the ceiling?

Took out the old vent cover, only to discover that it was screwed directly into the ceiling as far as I can tell. It doesn't seem to be anchored into the metal duct. I can't seem to thread the screws back into the same holes.

How can I go about reinstalling the vent cover? Do I need to patch the holes? Do I need to drill in some sort of anchor?

First Time Digiscoping/binning!

Some backyard photos using my Vortex Diamondback and Nikon M7s, both w/ Mountain Mag adapters.

Ruby-throated hummingbirds photographed w/ scope. Turkey vulture, Eastern chipmunk, red bellied woodpeckers, summer tanagers, white bellied nuthatch & Northern cardinal, Carolina chickadee, tufted titmouse, and belted kingfisher all taken w/ binoculars. The belted kingfisher was taken before I had a proper adapter, so I had to line up my phone manually and pray lol

Need to pick me up a tripod mount for my binoculars to get some clearer photos!

Sight-ID Only: Is it a complete checklist?

For most species, I will only record them if I can confirm visually. This also helps me get an accurate count on the # of individuals of that species. Of course, I still log some birds, even if I only hear them, but that only occurs for birds I can easily ID by sound (and are thus fairly common, so probably already visually confirmed at some point at that location).

For this use, would you still consider this a complete checklist?

Elbow Region Pain When Lowering Heavy Objects

I assume this is likely EDS-related. I first noticed this when I started going to the gym and doing exercises like bicep curls. Anytime I lower something heavy slowly/controlled, something in my elbow region hurts. It feels like my elbow will pop/click after a certain point. The only way I can mitigate/circumvent this (in an attempt to not do any damage at that very moment) is to quickly drop the weight/object past that point of pain and control the descent again right as my elbow fully extends.

The pain occurs when my elbow is nearly fully extended, about 30° from full extension. I also notice the pain when carrying bags of groceries, specifically when I go to set them down gently (slow, controlled extension) as to not break any glass jars or eggs.

Today I noticed it while carrying a fairly heavy bag in the airport. I had delicate equipment inside, so I went to set the bag down gently. I got to the point where my elbow felt like it would "pop" if I went any further, so I had to squat awkwardly down to set it down.

Is this something related to the tendons in my elbows? Does anyone have any ideas what this is physiologically? I'm wondering if there's any home PT exercises I can do to help with this, but it doesn't feel like a strength issue. Not sure if it's instability either.

Maybe it's something like the "boxer's knuckles" I suffer from (also due to EDS), where the tendon slips off my knuckles and feels like a "pop" after I close my fingers into a fist a certain amount. From what I was told, there wasn't much to do about that one either.

Been getting back into the game after a long hiatus. I played a bit during the initial craze in 2016, mostly while visiting family in Europe at the time. I'm based in the US (East Coast, mid-Atlantic region). Feel free to add me! Would love to get some friends from other regions (or also on the East Coast!)

I've got too many gifts and too few active friends to send/receive from! Would love to grind out XP with others too

Traveling w/ Beardie?

Saw this interesting video on Instagram and it got me thinking. I regularly hike for a few hours, but have always hesitated to take my beardie. How long is "too long" out of their enclosures? I assume they can get by for longer if the UV index is higher and the weather is warm/dry-ish.

I hesitate even over a few hours. This creator shows that they camp with their beardie. Even with power though, could someone realistically power a basking bulb & UVB suitable for even a few nights (or in their case, a week)?

I know beardies need a basking spot to properly digest food. I'd be hesitant to give my beardie her daily salad without access to her basking spot for the following hour at least.

What are your alls thoughts on the video? How long do you take your beardies out of their cage? I assume you can keep your dragons out of the cage longer if they are outside rather than indoors?

Safe DIY basking spot/warm hide?

Wanted to get a larger basking spot for my dragon. The only thing online that seemed to fit my needs is the ZenHabitats basking platform, but I can't justify that price tag.

Went to Lowe's and picked up some pavers. Created this sort of platform with elevated slate at the top. My only concern is the large square paver. I left the underneath part open as a sort of "cave" to act as a warm hide. Now I'm wondering if I should just block it off entirely in case it were to collapse or something. Am I just being paranoid?

Clips are quiet?

Clips on my PC or on my MedalTV app are fairly quiet. They're not entirely inaudible, but you do have to listen at full volume for it to sound "normal." I haven't always had this issue. I have output sound recording set to 100% and my microphone at 60%, since my microphone is so much louder than my playback.

I use a BEACN mixer and made sure that the game and discord are turned up. I originally had my max PC audio at 100% and used my BEACN to turn down my game and discord. I tried instead turning my PC audio down to 50% and then turned everything up on my BEACN with no different results. I can't imagine turning it up any louder or I'd literally be deafened through my headphones.

What kind of knot(s)?

I've been seeing variations these on my feed recently and thought they looked cool. They're decorative backpack straps for clipping items to. I can't seem to find any YouTube videos to begin to figure out how to accomplish something like this. It seems like the outer cord is wrapped around some sort of thicker inner core cord? Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start to figure this one out? YouTube video suggestions would be great

Fleece and/or Puffy for July/August Mt. Washington Summit?

Should I bring both a fleece AND a puffy (+ shell of course, as well as other gear like gloves/beanie etc.) for the summit in summer? Or do most people just get away with the fleece and a shell?

Can I recover hike data from Health app?

Hiked Spruce Knob a few days ago. There's absolutely no service out there and I was camping in the area so I only recently got back online. Found out that my AllTrails activity didn't save. However, my Health app has data from my Apple Watch that shows the workout under both the "Hiking" watch workout as well as AllTrails. My AllTrails app doesn't have anything, nor does my profile on the web browser version. I was able to still mark the hike as complete, but wish I had my data added.

Shooting Azimuth Question

I am learning how to navigate using a mirrored baseplate compass & map. Currently, I am trying to understand how to shoot an azimuth so that I can triangulate my location based on features around me (e.g., mountains).

One video I watched instructed me to align the structure with my compass notch, then with the compass pointed at the structure, rotate the bezel so that the needle falls in the shed. The number at the index is my bearing (I think). I can place the compass on my map, with the edge lining up to the structure. Then I should rotate the compass on the structure until the red is back in the shed. Now I can draw a straight line from the structure using the compass as a straightedge. Repeating for another structure(s), I can then get a sense of where I am based on where the lines intersect.

I watched another video to compare, and noticed that the creator instructs the audience to align the orienting lines on the compass with the gridlines on the paper (while the other video instructs the audience to put the red in the shed) after shooting the azimuth.

Perhaps I am entirely misunderstanding the second video, but from what I've read/watched online, it seems like the first method is the "correct" or more popular option. Is the second method "incorrect" or is it simply an alternative method...?

Source of Mysterious Message: Where's the portal?

This is probably a dumb question, but I've never played before. I used 20 core fragments to open the portal, then beamed up to my ship to drop some stuff off. When I beamed back down, I realized that I was in a totally new area. How do I find my way back to the portal now that my quest compass is gone? From what I understand, each world is infinite and nonrepeating, so should I just pick a direction and keep walking, hoping for the best...?

Apple Watch Case: Spray Paint?

I have an Apple Watch Series 9 (45mm) with a Rhinoshield CrashGuard NX Bumper Case. It's a hard plastic that is somewhat flexible (probably just because it's small and thin-ish). I really want to recolor the rim (which can easily separate from the case itself), but don't know how best to do that. Would spray paint work? Or should I go with something like PlastiDip Spray? I don't think I can sand it down, since it's already so small/thin/fragile to begin with.

Accomplished? Failed? Not sure how to feel after last hike. Snake Hill WMA, WV, USA.

I've been steadily going on increasingly intense hikes recently. I've always enjoyed being outside, but recently decided to plan a backpacking trip in Dolly Sods Wilderness. My most recent hike in Snake Hill WMA, WV left me second guessing myself.

There was virtually no trail and I was "lost" several times. Tried to take too make shortcuts that ended in near-injury. Left my Garmin at home to make things worse. I didn't realize the elevation was so intense. It was bad going down, but it was hellish going back. I'm glad I went, because the views at the bottom were incredible, but I had to rush back up because I was running late.

I'm glad I didn't DNF, but I still feel a little defeated. That uphill ~2.5ish miles of 1000ft elevation gain was just as mentally as it was physically exhausting. 95 degrees in extreme humidity didn't make it any easier. Honestly felt like I was only able to do it because I had no choice. Couldn't go anywhere but back up.

Guess it's time for some self reflection and reevaluation of my own abilities. I was never in any "real" danger, but I wasn't far from it. Has anyone else experienced a humbling moment without necessarily "failing?"

Are Bedrock Clogs Ponderosa Brown Still Available Anywhere?

Does anyone know if this colorway is available anywhere online? I'm leaning towards the leather suede version but I'm not a big fan of the current colors on bedrock's website

This is all I've found so far, but I'm looking for size M8 or 9

Rechargeable battery works with one device but not the other?

I have a Black Diamond Spot 400 headlamp and a Black Diamond Moji+ lantern. Both are supposed to be compatible with the Black Diamond 1500 rechargeable battery. I just picked up the lantern and rechargeable battery brand new today. I ensured the rechargeable battery was fully charged, but when I put it inside the lantern, it wouldn't turn on. However, the rechargeable battery works fine in the headlamp. I went ahead and tried putting 3 triple A batteries inside both the headlamp and lantern, which worked without issue for both.

Why might the rechargeable battery work for one device but not the other (despite the fact both devices work fine on non rechargeable batteries)?

Nikon M7s: Delivered in M5 box w/ M5 warranty slip, but offered $97 refund to keep them. Do I accept?

I purchased the M7s from Amazon (yes, my mistake). They came in an M5 box with the M5 warranty, so I wouldn't be able to get the warranty for the binoculars it seems. I submitted a return request on Amazon, and was asked if I would accept a partial refund of $97. I paid $519 after tax, so this would bring it down to $421 total. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the binoculars, but of course I wouldn't have the warranty. What would you do: return and repurchase brand new M7's (this time from B&H) for the same price, or keep the M7s from Amazon without warranty and get $97 back?

Nikon M7's came in M5 box?

Disappointing. Bought from the Nikon store on Amazon (should've known better). Binoculars weren't in the plastic bag they're supposed to come in and the neck strap was already attached. The box is labeled M5 and so does the warranty paper slip. There's also cracking on the objective lens covers. Guess I'll be returning it and need to look to find the same price at an optics store

North Beach Fishing — What to Throw?

Haven't fished anywhere near North Beach before. I'll be going this weekend with a friend. What should I expect? I think I'll bring my MH and M rod, but I also have a 10'surf rod I could bring? I believe I'm limited to 2 rods at the pier.

What should I throw? I'm not entirely sure what fish are present this time of year. Should I go with live/cut bait, or something artificial like a jig?
