How do you turn off the constant pop-ups asking you to pay for an upgrade?

This is ridiculous, this software is starting to feel like malware. Every time I get one of these scammy pop-ups, I check the box telling them to stop. The system completely ignores this and continues to bother me anyway.

And what was the point in paying for a lifetime subscription if it would immediately lock me into an obsolete version? Fuck this company.

Book Suggestion for the podcast: Double Fold by Nicholson Baker

I'd love to see Michael and Peter cover this odd expose on libraries from 2001. Inspired by Baker's wildly impractical crusade for libraries to maintain card catalogues indefinitely, the book is a polemic against the many ways that libraries destroy print media, especially in the conversion of newspapers into microfilm.

The book is beautifully written, won multiple awards, and got glowing reviews from several newspapers. The only problem, as many librarians pointed out, is that Baker's premise fundamentally fails to understand what a library is and does. Barring infinite space and resources, libraries must carefully weed materials based on several criteria, including accuracy of information, readership, and condition. The purpose of a public library is to provide access to materials that patrons want to read, not to be archives that act as black holes, taking in more and more materials without ever removing them.

The Library Journal wrote that Baker "doesn't understand – and perhaps never will – that the purpose of libraries is access." His central thesis explicitly compares libraries to museums, making one wonder if he has ever actually read a library's mission statement: "Libraries...must aspire to the conditions of museums. All their books are treasures, in a sense"

Maybe this book is too old or obscure for the podcast, but it made big waves in the library world. I think it's fascinating how he put an entire industry on the defense. Like many books on the podcast, this book is passionate, pithy, and wrong.

How common is the patriarchal idea of "retiring your husband" outside of LuLaRoe?

The documentary LuLaRich talked about the dark implications of this aspirational mantra. Not only does eliminating outside sources of income make it harder to leave LuLaRoe, but this encourages husbands of women with large downlines to join LuLaRoe and eventually take over operations from their wives. Does a similar dynamic of men taking over their wives' operations exist in other female-dominated MLMs?

How did interlibrary book loans work before computers? What about before phones?

I'd love to learn more about the history of interlibrary loans. How did library workers across history compile and search interlibrary catalogs to find out which books were available and from where? How much has modern shipping infrastructure sped up the process? And what communication methods have been used to transmit the patron's requests?

Help: My apps aren't showing up even after a factory reset!

I have a Meta Quest 2 that I haven't played in a couple years. After booting it back up, I get a spinning wheel when I try to load my games, and it says there are 0 applications in the top. I tried doing a factory reset and I still have the same problem. I don't even see a way to redownload my apps.
