We need an electrician to see if they can add an outlet in our room that’s connected to a different circuit so we can run a portable AC, or change our ceiling fan, or both. Do you have any recommendations of an electrician that is reliable and has reasonable prices (like they won’t charge you $900 for a $300 job just cause)?
I was in London for an overnight layover in February, and something that stuck out to me was the amount of men wearing actual coats. Like wool style coats, not those long snow jackets. It made me think back to whether I usually see people wear coats…and I don’t think I have. Sometimes I see women wear it but not usually either. Maybe it’s more common on the east coast (I’m from CA and now live in AZ)?
Do you wear a coat during the winter, or do you usually wear a puffer jacket?
I (29F) met my husband (27F) nearly 8 years ago (officially 8 years together in 3 months) and have been married for 1 year. I know that we started dating roughly a few months after he broke up with his ex, we’ll call her Megan. I’m not sure what the official timeline of their breakup is but I know they were together on his 19th birthday, but she was officially in another relationship a couple months before my husband and I were together (saw it on facebook). Her BF would also call my BF when we were first dating because I guess she’d tell him that she was with my BF, so I knew she wasn’t single.
Needless to say, Megan has been a huge pain in my ass since my husband and I started dating. She remained friends with my SIL (my husband’s sister) and through him, has repeatedly kept trying to contact my husband and I for the last 8 years. She’s left notes on his car, messaging him, messaging me, literally watched me through my bedroom door, etc. My husband tells me to just block her and move on.
The thing is, she’s pretty unstable. You can tell from her messages and posts online. For example, she sent a message to my husband on FB that she was married to the actor from Vampire Diaries, and also sent him a bunch of pictures of his dad and random people. She allegedly tried physically fighting my SIL once, and then sent her an old dick pic of my husband to her. Like why would you send someone a picture of their brother’s penis? I’ve also looked her up on our county’s court site (for curiosity sake), and she has a felony for domestic violence with a deadly weapon, and countless misdemeanor charges for battery, theft, and violations of protective orders.
Anyway, she tried following me on IG last night and sent me some weird DMs. Mostly just reels and some weird DM I can’t decipher. I blocked her but looked at her profile, and I just felt kinda terrible for blocking her? You can tell she’s unstable and probably on something, but she also just looks sad in a lot of the photos. There’s just a look in her eyes that breaks my heart. And I just can’t help but think if maybe I should try being a friend, despite the weird history. Like I can’t tell if she’s reaching out to harass me or find information about my husband, or she’s trying to reach out for some kind of companionship because she might not have anyone? Like I burned all my bridges so I’m trying to reach out to whomever I can kind of way? But I also don’t want to cause drama or problems in mine or my husband’s life given we already have enough.
TLDR: Be a friend to my husband’s ex or protect my husband and I’s peace?
4/28: Applied online for a renewal.
4/30: Application was accepted and processing began.
5/6: Passport was shipped (normal shipping) with estimated 5/9 delivery.
5/7: Passport arrived.
I do like the older design but at least I didn’t get the Trump 250th version.
Hi everyone! I’m interested in applying to NASA’s Postdoctoral program but the due date isn’t until November 1st. It’d be a dream to be a postdoc at NASA and one of the projects exactly aligns with the research I want to do. It’s a great continuation of my dissertation research. However, I cannot wait another 7 or more months to start the postdoc. It’s just not economically feasible.
Is it worth emailing the PI to see if I can start the postdoc early, if accepted? I don’t want to be pushy but I’d have to prioritize other postdocs or jobs if I get accepted into them.
Hi everyone! I recently applied to the NOAA CIMES postdoc fellowship at Princeton. I was wondering if anybody knew the timeline of them reaching out?
I renewed my passport online on 4/28. I’ve seen others here that renewed on the same date already get their passports. I know they say to expect 4-6 weeks but shouldn’t it be fast if others are getting their’s fast?
Idk I’m just worried because my CRBA does not have the same last name as my passport, and I do not have the name change paperwork as this was done when I was a minor. I wasn’t even aware my CRBA has a different last name until a few months ago. I’m worried that this may complicate things with my renewal, even though it didn’t when I renewed it in 2016.
On one hand, you have Israel saying they’re expecting an imminent strike by the US. As well, you have UAE demanding their citizens leave Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. Not to mention Trump rejecting the deal. This would tell you that the war is likely to resume again. However, you also have UAE resuming school and opening airspace again. The government likely has intel on whether the US and Israel are planning to resume strikes, so why go through the process of reopening the airspace and schools if you know the war is going to happen?

Hi all! I am applying for a pretty prestigious post-doc in my field. I don’t have a ton of papers published (2 in progress) but I think my research ideas are great (maybe I’m biased) and hoping that my proposal will stand out enough. I’ve already been in correspondence with someone who says he’s willing to co-host since he has too many commitments to host me himself.
However, I’m struggling with the proposal as I’m not sure if its too long or too short, and its due in 2 days. The way I was taught to write a proposal during my PhD was to include an introduction, background, methodology, and proposed timeline. We were also encouraged to include preliminary data and figures to justify the research that is being proposed. This was how we did our practicum and advancement to candidacy proposals. However, I don’t have any preliminary data since I haven’t done the research that I’m trying to propose to do. As well, this would be about 20-ish pages altogether and I’m not sure if that’s good or too long for the application committee. The introduction and background is about 7 pages already.
Any suggestions or advice? This is for the NOAA CIMES postdoc fellowship, if anybody’s been accepted and could give me some advice.
