How do you make faceless online lectures feel more natural and engaging?

What I currently do with theory lectures is keep the slides pretty plain & simple, with just a minimal amount of text on them, then i explain the concepts by writing & drawing on the slides directly using my pen tablet. I also try to throw in as many relevant images as i can, and use them to illustrate the points while I'm talking & annotate them as i go. Occasionally I'll throw in a short video if it helps get a point across.

To be honest I'm pretty comfortable with the way things are tech-wise, but I do have a major problem - keeping students engaged.

The thing is, these lectures are basically just screen recordings/live with my voice so there's hardly any interaction with the student at all. And i think an important part of a traditional classroom lecture experience is actually seeing the teacher - you know, facial expressions, hand gestures, body language & all the non-verbal cues that help make learning feel more natural.

Even when the actual content is good, a completely faceless lecture starts to feel a bit dull & monotonous.

Do you have any tips to make it more engaging/natural to students?

I'm especially looking for tips on how to make it feel like you're actually learning from a person, without having the teacher's face on screen the whole time.

Seeking Mature Animated Shows similar to Avatar and Arcane

I just finished watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and Arcane, and now I'm itchin' for some more animated shows that capture that same magic.

Here's what I'm on the hunt for:

  • A really good, super well-written story with solid world-building and actual character growth - you know, the kind that makes you feel invested.
  • Something geared towards adult audiences that doesn't have to go all out with the gore or violence, but a more mature and serious tone is kinda my thing.
  • A bit of humor or otherwise is okay but I'd rather not have characters acting like they're in a cartoon all the time.
  • I'm a big fan of high stakes, deep emotions, and shows that really make you care about the characters - that's what I'm after.

I'm open to both Western animation and anime.

A dub is pretty much essential - but if a show is only subbed and it's really worth watching then I'm good with that too.

So, what shows do you reckon I should put on my next-watch list?

Looking for an honest eye doctor

I think I might need glasses because I've noticed I can't see things clearly that are far away anymore. I'm planning to get my eyes checked, but I've had bad experiences with doctors in the past and I'm a bit sceptical. It often feels like some just want to sell you glasses or extra tests rather than explaining what's actually going on.

Can anyone recommend an eye doctor or optometrist who focuses on giving an accurate diagnosis first instead of immediately prescribing new glasses? I'm looking for someone who'll explain the problem, tell me if I actually need glasses, and won't push unnecessary treatments or products.

If you've had a good experience with someone, I'd really appreciate your recommendations. Thanks!

Ear/Headphone needed: 10–12 hours a day use, prioritizes comfort & longevity

So my work has me wearing earphones for just about every single day - we're talking 10 to 12 hours a day. I don't always have them blasting audio the whole time, but they're still on my head a lot, and that's just kind of the way it is.

I tried out a bunch of Bluetooth options (oneplus, realme etc.) - but the battery just always seems to die on me in the long run. Sometimes it's after just a few months, other times may be a year, but either way battery life is a problem that never really goes away.

I also tried those open ear Bluetooth earphones - super comfy, but the battery still tends to crumble after a while. And I couldn't even find any wired open-ear options.

And the thing is, I dont prefer wired earphones cause,

  • They get all tangled up, which drives me nuts.
  • They're super inconvenient if I need to take them off and stick 'em back on again a few times a day.
  • And then there's the fact that I really like the convenience of a neckband just kind of chillin' around my neck when I'm not in the middle of a listening session.

So basically I'm looking for something that:

  • Can handle wearing for 10 to 12 hours a day, no problem.
  • Is basically indestructible - you know, something that'll last for years
  • Doesn't get replaced every year or two because the battery just gave up on me.
  • And is as safe as can be for hearing, since I'm pretty much always keeping the volume pretty low.

I don't care what type you've got in mind - wired, wireless, open-ear, bone conduction, headphones, or neckband - as long as they're comfy, durable, and actually practical for a long daily wear kinda situation. Budget is 5k + 1-2k may be.

Any suggestion for some unknown good food places for a specific food items.

When I used to live in Nashik one of my all time faves was hunt through the city for quirky little food spots that people never seem to talk about .

Not the super famous places that every one recommends, but those off the beaten path eateries we stumbled across on our own - a humble sandwich stall with the most incredible sandwiches, a boiled bhurji guy with his street cart, some pani puri vendor, even a biryani joint that did it right - all serving seriously good grub at prices that wont break the bank. Those were our top spot go-tos because you just knew they were worth the visit for both taste and value.

Im on the hunt for some more of those kind of gems in Jalgaon. Any recommendations you can swear by ? It really dont matter if its a rickety old thela on the roadside or a high end 5-star restaurant. Im most interested in the places that are truly worth the trip rather than just famous.

How do you even find a life partner at this age, if you live in a small town? I'm honestly thinking of giving up. (M31)

I genuinely don't know what I'm supposed to do anymore.

I live in a tier-3 town in India, and the opportunities to meet new people are almost nonexistent. Unlike people in metro cities, there aren't many social events, hobby groups, or dating opportunities here. Whatever little dating scene exists is mostly college students, and I'm not comfortable dating someone who's 5-6 years younger than me.

Just to clarify, interacting with women isn't the problem. I had a long-term girlfriend during college, so I'm not someone who's afraid to talk to women or has never been in a relationship. The problem is that I simply don't meet any women around my age anymore.

I spent the prime years of my 20s preparing for government exams. Like many aspirants, I isolated myself for years. Most of my old friends have moved away, gotten married, or we've simply lost touch. My social circle has practically disappeared.

My job also doesn't help. It's not the kind where you meet lots of new people or make new friends. I work, come home, and that's pretty much my routine. There are no office outings, no big colleague circles, nothing.

People always say, "Go out and meet people." But where? I go to cafés, parks, malls, gyms, bookstores, etc., and I mostly see college students, families, or people already in their own groups. Walking up to strangers isn't really a thing in India, especially in a small town.

Then there's arranged marriage.

That has been even more discouraging.

I'm not looking for dowry. I don't expect the girl's family to spend money on the wedding. In fact, I'd prefer a simple, small ceremony. Financially, I'm doing okay. We own our own two-story house, I have a good-paying job, and although I'm not a permanent government employee, I've been working in the same field for almost 10 years. I have enough experience and skills that I could find work elsewhere if needed.

Yet almost every arranged marriage conversation seems to revolve around wanting someone earning ₹1 lakh+ per month, preferably working in a metro city, or someone with a permanent government job. It feels like the moment people hear "not permanent," the conversation is over, regardless of everything else.

Sometimes it feels like all the advice online is written for people living in big cities with active social lives. "Join clubs." "Go to meetups." "Use dating apps." None of those things really work where I live. Dating apps have very few active users here, and many profiles are either inactive or hundreds of kilometers away.

At this point, I'm honestly wondering if I've simply missed the boat.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Especially people from small towns who had limited social circles and weren't naturally outgoing.

How did you actually meet your partner?

I'm not looking for motivational quotes or "it'll happen when you least expect it." I'm genuinely looking for practical advice from people who have been through this. If you were in a similar situation, what changed things for you?

Because right now, I'm honestly starting to think about giving up.

I'm trying to record my teaching sessions and upload them to YouTube so they'll be available for free to students.

The problem is that I don't just second-guess myself after recording, I start second-guessing myself while recording.

I often watch it back/during recording, I think, "I could explain this topic better." Maybe I come up with a new analogy, a different example, or a completely different way of approaching the concept.

For example, halfway through a lesson I'll suddenly think:

This slide could be designed better. I should use a different example. Maybe I should reorganize the topic entirely. This explanation works, but another approach might be better.

Then I stop, edit the slides, change images, add text, rewrite parts of the lesson, and start recording again. Before long, I get another idea and repeat the process.

What's interesting is that I don't have this problem when teaching live in a classroom. There, I can see whether students are understanding or not. If they're confused, I naturally switch approaches, give another example, or explain from a different perspective. The lesson evolves based on real feedback.

With recorded teaching, there is no feedback. Because of that, I keep wondering whether the current explanation is really the best one possible. It feels like I can always improve the content, slides, examples, or structure before publishing.

As a result, I spend far more time revising and re-recording than actually publishing lessons.

Have any teachers or educational content creators dealt with this? How do you know when to stop improving a lesson and just publish it? How do you avoid getting trapped in endless optimization when creating recorded content?

Not working with drawing tablet

Tried using a Huion draw tab H950P with onenote

it completely bugs out once I click with the pen (on select mode, drawing works until I use the eraser). It's almost like it gets stuck clicking down, making the program completely unusable until I alt-tab.

Tried both drivers

  • Driver_15.7.6.1858 Date of Upgrade: 2025-07-15 Download
  • Windows Driver_15.7.6.1314 Date of Upgrade: 2024-07-05 Download

I've tried the obvious fixes to no avail, including using a separate draw tab.

Saw similar two-year-old post in this sub but there were no solutions, Any ideas?
