Event | Edgelands 2026 electronic music will be held at Colchester Arts Centre between October 15th-18th
A four-day festival showcasing experimental electronic music is set to take place.
Edgelands 2026 will be held at Colchester Arts Centre from Thursday, October 15, until Sunday, October 18, featuring a blend of internationally acclaimed artists and emerging local talent.
Festival-goers can expect a variety of music styles, including IDM, live AV, psychedelic electronics, ambient, drone, noise, and contemporary compositions.
The event will kick off with a performance by electronic pioneer µ-Ziq (Mike Paradinas) and ID:Mora, offering an immersive live audio-visual show.
Friday will delve into psychedelic sounds with Masal, a collaboration between Al Johnson and Anglo-Turkish multi-instrumentalist Ozlem Simsek, supported by Bada Duum, Lee Ashcroft, and Colchester’s Nukleopatra.
Saturday will see a headline performance by electronic duo Plaid, central to British electronic music since the late 1980s, with Dhangsha and A’Bear also in the line-up.
The festival will close on Sunday with a performance by composer and virtuoso cellist Jo Quail, alongside local artist White Noise Winter.
Tickets for individual events are available online at colchesterartscentre.com, with prices ranging from £12 to £20, plus a booking fee.
The festival aims to create a space for music that defies easy categorisation, continuing the arts centre’s commitment to adventurous and unconventional work
And there she goes...nearly 40 years of Culver Square history
The fountain was installed in 1987 and created by local artist Tim Holding, who was also a lecturer at Colchester School of Art.
Holding passed away in 2018, making it feel even more of a shame to see one of his pieces being taken out of the place it was originally created for.
The water stopped flowing in 2011 and was repurposed as a garden and filled with plants, being a feature of the square for another 15 years.
Town centres obviously change, but I’ll miss this one, the childhood memories flipping pennies into the fountain, growing up as a teenager and using it as a meeting spot and spending hours there

Colchester city centre sandwich bar for sale at £7,500
The former Bon Appetit unit, located on Crouch Street in Colchester, shut its doors for the final time at the end of July after seven years of trading
The listing, described as a “turnkey opportunity,” is being marketed by Essex and Suffolk Business Sales and offers a ready-to-trade business in a prime pedestrianised area of the city
The unit has operated as a sandwich bar for more than 30 years and had been under the same ownership since 2019
It is fully equipped and requires minimal additional investment to begin trading
The premises are available on a secure lease with an annual rent of £10,000
There are no business rates payable
The business previously generated most of its income through a strong corporate client base, including the city council, law firms, the hospital, medical surgerys, takeaway sales, telephone orders and deliveries across Colchester
Footage of the cash machine being stolen from Halstead High Street in the early hours of Thursday
Police were called to Halstead High Street in Essex on Thursday morning after reports of a telehandler being used to ram a building next to a funeral home.
CCTV footage appeared to show a Matbro lifting truck spearing the building with its prongs at around 1.30am, leaving a gaping hole in the wall.
A group could be seen then attempting to haul the cash machine away when an ambulance arrived on the scene.
Officers were alerted to the incident at 1.50am, and found one vehicle that had been used in the incident still running.
Essex Police said no arrests had been made and urged anyone with information to come forward.

DWP to disqualify drivers for up to 2 years for not paying back benefits
DWP could disqualify drivers for upto 2 years over unpaid benefit debt
New powers coming in from October 2026 could see people banned from driving for up to two years if they owe £1,000+ from benefit fraud and refuse to pay it back.
I’m not necessarily against recovering money that’s owed, but I’m not convinced taking someone’s driving licence is the right way to do it either, especially given how dependent many people are on their cars.
Apparently there are exemptions where driving is essential, but this still seems like a pretty major power.
What do you reckon justified or a step too far?

Sidewalks are for people, not parking spaces
They could've parked anywhere, but chose to impede the only sidewalk..
Edit: Nothing against trucks, I drive one and a semi for a living. But it's like people will park their truck like this without a second thought nowadays. Just a few spots over and they wouldn't be hanging over the sidewalk, just don't think twice about it now
