It’s fanboy and chum chum’s 17th anniversary since it premiered in October 12 2009, The show is created by animator Eric Robles who had worked on shows like Billy and Mandy, The x’s, Glitch techs, and Mixels as he wanted to tell stories about being a kid so he goes back to his early childhood and reimagining all the things in his life.
so he originally pitched this idea for a program from Nickelodeon called Random cartoons that aired projects like adventure time, the bravest warriors, Moo beard the cow pirate, Kyle and rosemary and hero heights just to name a few, luckily for Robles his pilot was picked to become a full series to premiere after SpongeBob’s truth or square (terrible choice)
The show follows our so called “Superheros” Tobias Lance crannapple and Edmund chummery or better know as fanboy and chum chum as they get into random shenanigans and looney toons esque adventures and daily life’s in the colorful world of Galaxy hills with all of the side characters one of them for example is Kyle bloodwarth Thomason as he has been expelled from his former wizard school for turning his professor in raspberry flan and also has to be fed up by fanboy and chum chums antics.
With Its unique artstyle like the fairly oddparents,Total drama island, Clone high,and jimmy neutron as every character has there own unique design and also involves chaotic slapstick, pop culture references, sci-fi and fantasy stories vivid title cards, squash and stretch animations and has a entire cast of voice actors such as David Hornsby, Nika futterman, Jamie Kennedy, Jeff Bennett who almost voices every single character, Candi Milo, John DiMaggio, Kevin Micheal Richardson, Nolan north, Johnathan Adams and Amir Talai, (also off topic they have all these people but no tom Kenny)
However the show was let’s just say not received well as it was well known by the entire cartoon community As one of the worst Nickelodeon cartoons ever made in the late 2000s and early 2010s as you will commonly seen lots of reviews on YouTube,Facebook, deviant Art, Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB and Common sense media.
Reasons such as fanboy and chum chums themselves, the over reliance on toilet humor (only in the first season) the animation, The jokes,character designs and writing and storytelling, the fact it was chosen over adventure time and basically came out of the time Nickelodeon was trying to make all of their cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants.
But not all reviews were all negative as it won 5 Emmy awards for its animation, gain 5.8 million viewers and had merchandise and mascot costumes that were commonly used for Nickelodeon Hotel and resorts and Comic con and the people who were born in the 2000s and 2010s Love the show for its Wacky cast of characters,over the top plots, childlike experience, and the absurdity of it and even internet memes as the show had it’s redemption arc in 2020 with the recent Netflix cartoon called Glitch techs and the people who hated the show when it first came out start to appreciate it more for what it was trying to be and now is seen as a guilty pleasure (but is still hated til this day)
