Former Walmart on Evergreen Way May to Become Hundreds of Homes?

Former Walmart on Evergreen Way May to Become Hundreds of Homes?

A project is underway to convert the former Walmart on Evergreen Way in Everett into 156 town homes and 92 detached single-family home lots with open space areas.

The developer is DR Horton, the largest home builder in the U.S. by volume, known for building affordable to mid-range housing.

Located at 11400 Evergreen Way, the former Walmart and its large parking lot have been for “underperformance.” Two years later, a couple miles to the north on Evergreen Way.

Vortex question

I cooked some skinless thighs for dinner - they were great, I wanted to try the vortex, but I had a few questions

  1. Vents on bottom about 3/4 open and heat was and 550-600. Is that right?

  2. Put the grill lid back over it while it cooks with lid vents full open?

  3. I'll assume what wings and thighs with skin will come out really crisp?

Is the Marina/Box Car Park good for fishing?

Basically the title,

I wanna learn how to fish and eventually how to prepare fish to eat!

Is the Marina/Box Car Park good for that? Is there a good amount of fish there? If so, would they be safe to eat? How about Jetty Island?

If not there, then where’s a good spot around here? For context, I’d just be dock/shore fishing, no boat unfortunately.

Thanks!

Kittens!!! Fosters needed

Hey all, it's kitten season! Please consider helping!

The Noah center in Stanwood just put out a call for 60 kittens that are coming in tonight that need foster homes.

There are 15 different litters with all types of ages and needs.

There are some kittens that only need a couple of weeks in Foster and there are also some litters with Mom where she is nursing and doing a lot of the work.

I am not an official spokesperson for NOAH but I can tell you that they are awesome to work with very well organized and good with communication.

When I pick up my Foster litters they start me out with food and wet food and litter supplies. They also have other items you might need if you're not able to purchase them yourself.

Other ways to help would be donations of food or litter or money. Blankets suitable for bedding are also welcome.

It's such an awesome feeling to take in these small animals that need love and a warm place to grow safely and see them develop their little personalities and get ready for an awesome adventure in their new forever home.

It's also the best time to have a kitten because if they're between 4 weeks and 8 weeks they are not yet at the crazy teenager wreck everything stage.

Do it!

Topgolf exit prompts Everett Mall owner to move in new direction

An Arizona company is now said to be building hundreds of housing units in the former Topgolf site. This could be a good use of the mostly empty parking spaces.

Found Parakeet

We found the sweetest parakeet today at Narbeck Wetland Sanctuary. I don't know if it's escaped or dumped, but it's definitely a pet. It has a band on its leg from a breeder (thanks Google), so we know it's a pet. We took it to a few places, but were turned away due to being able to house birds. Thankfully, a volunteer at PAWS suggested calling Petco.

If you know of anyone that has lost their parakeet feel free to contact me. We don't know much about pet birds but couldn't leave this bird alone and cold at the park.

*Edit - we took the bird to Petco as they said they can scan it's band and find it's breeder and/or owner that way. It is at Lynnwood Petco.

Share everything with me! What events, festivals, groups, shows, hikes, markets or classes are you looking forward to?

No kids and we’re willing to travel a bit for something fun.

I had my finger on the pulse when I lived in Portland and knew everything that was happening on the weekends. But I’ve been kind of depressed since moving here and have barely gone out except for work. I literally have no idea what’s going on in the mean streets of Everett these days.

tl;dw: i asked the city to require a stronger commitment from the aquasox, specifically $600k to $1m annually directed back into the community to help offset services that are being reduced, merged, or cut entirely. their current contribution is about $10 million, or roughly 8% of the total project, and it has remained flat while public dollars now cover the remaining 92%.

y’all… i think it’s lame the aquasox haven’t had to meaningfully increase their contribution as this project has grown. i think it’s lame the city keeps putting more public dollars into this while other services continue to be cut or stretched thin. but i’m not naive. this project is likely moving forward. so at the very least, why aren’t we asking for a better deal?

the aquasox aren’t a mom and pop operation. they have the capacity to contribute more. if public funding is covering the overwhelming majority of this project, there should be a real, ongoing return back into the community.

if this resonates, consider emailing council your thoughts or showing up to the next council meeting! i will be there 🙂‍↕️

here's their email: council@everettwa.gov

demand a better deal from the aquasox before it's too late 🫩
